Chapter 35: Clouded judgment (Annabelle)
I adore my new wig; it is a significant improvement from my old one and fits my head perfectly.
When my mother gave me the old wig, I was only eight years old, and as I grew, it became too tight, so I had to continuously adjust it until it became loose, requiring me to support it with a bandana.
However, this new wig is different, and I find it comfortable enough to wear even while sleeping. Alpha Zion has been incredibly kind to me, and I am grateful for his generosity. I hope to find a way to show my gratitude for the respect and kindness he has shown me during my time here.
I was jolted awake by a familiar yet strange presence in my room, even though I had locked the doors. As I groggily reached for the light switch, a sudden force pushed against me.
The harsh brightness of the light momentarily blinded me, but I soon recognized the figure standing before me.
"Alpha Zion?" No, it couldn’t be him. Even when he was angry, he never stared at me with such hostility. Recognizing the gloves, my heart jumped out of my chest.
"Alpha Zach."
"You got that right," he growled, his hand raised at his second attempt to hit me. I rolled out of the bed and aimed for the door, but it was locked.
"No one gets out of here until I complete what I started. I’m interested in knowing how you fooled me," he remarked. Fear saturated me, and my heart rate was out of control.
"Alpha Zach, I’m innocent."
"Tell that to the weeds, witch. You killed my sister and think you can seek refuge here because Zion banished me?" His eyes were red, and his handsome face turned scary.
Sometimes, it felt as if I was talking to Alpha Zion, but I constantly had to remind myself that it wasn’t him.
"Alpha Zion took me in because he believes in my innocence," I implored. He tried a kick, and when I dodged, the bed was lifted from the floor and hurled at me.
I dodged, but didn’t reach safety before it landed on the floor with a breaking sound. Something pierced my leg before I realized the mattress had landed at the opposite side close to the closet.
Pain shot through me, but within a short time, it was gone. That warrior, I’m so sorry he has to bear my pain again. In that moment of pain, Alpha Zach had me pinned against the wall, my legs dangling in the air as his hands tightened around my neck, his gaze intense and menacing.
As the air escaped my lungs, I remembered his allergy and desperately grabbed his shirt, tearing off the buttons in the process, but he only smirked wickedly.
"You think you can trigger my allergy? I’d like to see you try," he taunted.
Taking a chance, I reached for his exposed shoulder, hoping for a reaction as Alpha Zion had mentioned. However, there was no response. Seizing the opportunity, I delivered a powerful punch to his face, causing him to recoil and sending me crashing onto the broken bed, the sharp edges digging into my back with a painful groan.
Realizing I was no match for him, I urgently mindlinked, ’Help, Alpha Zion.’
Blood seeped from my back, staining the mattress, and my thoughts turned to my pup. Alpha Zach ruthlessly kicked my stomach, driving me onto another shard of wood that pierced the back of my thigh.
Despite the excruciating pain, I shielded my stomach with my hands to lessen the impact of his attack. "It’s okay, baby, everything is going to be fine," I murmured through tears, hoping Alpha Zach would have just a little bit of empathy, but I realized I had made a big mistake.
Alpha Zion had already said that Alpha Zach was undefeatable, so defending myself was useless. However, I could feel my back healing as the pain lessened, but then another kick was sent to my stomach.
"Someone seems to have gotten her wolf," he taunted angrily before his gaze darkened again. "Are you pregnant?" He asked devilishly. I imagined how scary his eyes would be and refused to look into them, only clutching my stomach tightly and dragging my butt on the floor.
"A life for a life. Since you killed Iris, I will kill you and your bastard pup, and I will make sure no one finds your dead body to give it a burial, just as you..." he was saying when I heard a familiar voice from a distance.
"Bella, where are you?"
"Alp..." Before I could mention Alpha, a kick was sent to my face, causing my gaze to blur. Alpha Zach squatted in front of me, his fingers elongating into claws. I could see him blurrily as dizziness consumed me, but my arms remained wrapped around my belly as I mindlinked Alpha Zion.
’In the bedroom. It’s Alpha Zach.’ Pain seared through my stomach, blood gushing out. "I’m going to rip out your womb first and watch you suffer to death," he threatened, his fingers digging deeper.
Despite blood spattering, I strangely felt no pain, only a sense of numbness, until the bedroom door crashed down. Alpha Zach moved to avoid the impact, but I couldn’t react in time.
All I could do was duck, but the door lifted just before hitting me. I saw Alpha Zion’s furious gaze as he hurled the door to the other side, narrowly missing Alpha Zach. He then shielded me with his body.
"Zach, you have no right to be here," Alpha Zion roared, my strength slowly returning as I felt sorry for the warrior taking the brunt of the pain.
"She belongs to me. Give her back, and I will leave," Alpha Zach demanded. Alpha Zion scoffed and stood up to face him. "Belongs to you or for you to murder?"
"Yeah, to kill," Alpha Zach snarled. The only difference between them was their attire and expressions, with Alpha Zion clad in boxer shorts, likely awakened from sleep, and Alpha Zach’s torn shirt revealing the struggle.
"Well, she’s a member of my tribe and under my protection, so you can walk away and never return," Alpha Zion asserted but Alpha Zach was upset.
"I gave an order. This witch killed our sister, and you took her in," he raged, confronting Alpha Zion.
"Your judgment is clouded. She’s innocent."
"I have the investigation reports, so hand her over," Alpha Zach demanded. I had never seen Alpha Zion as angry as he was tonight. Not even when he found out I was pregnant.
"Zach, everyone sees you as perfect, but trust me, you made a big mistake. Bella saved your life," he revealed. Alpha Zach went stiff, casting a glare at me before his expression changed. "What is that mark?"
Fuck! I don’t want to get that warrior into trouble.
