Chapter 33: Chapter 33 – I will deal with her myself (Alpha Zach)
In the past few weeks, my tribe has experienced significant success after acquiring the Nether Wolves tribe. Consequently, I no longer required the spindrift payment from the academy and ceased attending, particularly due to its proximity to the Luna Echoes tribe.
But, when the Alphas threatened to cease business with us, I had to reconsider. I explained that this year was dedicated to the growth of my pack, which they understood and agreed to.
Following the discovery of various nuts, I decided to expand our operations by cultivating them in large plantations, requiring additional labor.
We sourced a variety of nuts and began producing almond, coconut, and soy milk. Gaius excelled in animal husbandry, managing our goat and sheep farms, as well as poultry.
The importation of goat milk, cow milk, eggs, and meat saw a significant increase across all packs except the Luna Echoes, with whom I preferred to have no dealings.
After training and completing some farm rounds, I showered and headed to the office to attend to some paperwork when Gaius knocked and entered.
"Alpha, it’s regarding the investigation concerning Kari," he said. He handed me a file, and I couldn’t help but wish it had been the red-haired girl who saved me.
My frustration with Kari made it difficult for me to consider her as my Luna, especially with suspicions pointing towards her.
If we can’t locate the red-haired girl, I may have no choice but to keep Kari around, thought I certainly can’t make her my Luna.
The prophecy described the red-haired girl as unique, possessing great strength while appearing gentle and meek on the surface.
Kari may seem meek outwardly, but internally, she falls short, and she triggers my aversion.
How could the woman from that night vanish like that? What happened to her after she left the pack? This mystery is proving to be quite challenging. Perhaps I should have waited for her to wake up instead of showering immediately after.
The more I pondered, the more anxious I grew. The prophecy states that the girl should be eighteen, and Kari fits the age criteria but lacks in other areas. However, failure to find her before I turn thirty could bring a curse upon my tribe.
The last thing I want is to jeopardize the safety of my tribe members. "Go on," I encouraged him, pushing away the document in front of me to give my complete attention.
"Alpha..." he was about to say when the door pushed open and Kari walked in. I hadn’t seen her in almost a week, and there was no bandage on her eyes. It was as if the witch had not even stabbed her.
"Zach, you won’t believe this. One of the healers came up with a potion that restored my eyes." Her excitement was intriguing, mirroring mine.
"That’s good news, but why didn’t the healer inform the Alpha first?" Gaius asked the question on my mind, and Kari fidgeted a little.
"He’s been busy with the new omegas and pack extensions. I’ve seen that the former Nether wolves pack has been used for nuts production, and the survivors are our new omegas."
Indeed, I wouldn’t have had time for the healers if any of them had come to me with anything concerning Kari.
"Well, I’m happy to see you whole again," I said honestly. It was a good thing for her injured eye to not remind me of that witch. Her countenance changed instantly. "Zach, Ivy contacted me."
"When?" I asked, my tone serious. "I haven’t heard from her since she left. Why didn’t she contact me?"
"I’m sorry, she didn’t contact me directly. Reid mentioned that she sent a telegram expressing her desire to mindlink with someone, but she was constantly being cut off. Annabelle is currently at the Luna Echoes Tribe."
The mention of the name filled me with rage, prompting me to stand up. Reid’s focus on Kari rather than tribe matters was already irritating, but this news was particularly upsetting. "Are you certain about this?"
"She is," Reid confirmed, showing me the telegram. However, something didn’t quite add up. I had explicitly ordered that no pack should take in the witch, so how could Zion defy my command?
Not only had he cheated during the Alpha battle, but he had also taken in the witch responsible for our sister’s death.
"I need to see Ivy," I stated firmly. Reid shook his head. "She mentioned in the telegram that she wanted to come, but she is currently under partial banishment for saving the lives of the Lunar Echoes tribe members she had sent to kill Annabelle. It seems Alpha Zion is protecting her."
Why do I feel so betrayed by my own twin brother? "If she’s alive, then why can’t I feel her through the bond?" I asked. Everyone fell silent, but Gaius appeared indifferent to the situation.
"Alpha, why not reach out to Alpha Zion to verify the information? I contacted some of his tribe members I used to be close with, but they claimed there was no one by that name. However, Ivy mentioned that Annabelle is at your parents’ small house," Reid disclosed, fueling my anger.
"Impossible. My parents cherish that house, especially my mother. They are still alive, and Zion decided to hand over their beloved home to an omega, a witch, a liar, and a murderer."
Fury vibrated through me as my wolf took over my mind. ’Calm down. You should talk to Zachary first.’ Why did I feel like even my wolf was against me?
The best thing was to block him for the time being. "How dare you, Zion. No, I won’t reach out to him, in case he denies it or conceals her."
If the tribe members deny it, they are likely following Zion’s orders. He may think he’s clever for banishing me, but he violated tribe rules by covering up a murder. "I will deal with her myself."
Reaching the door, Gaius stopped me. "Alpha, let me come with you. Have you forgotten what Alpha Zion did to you back then? What if he traps you with she-wolves again?"
Zion was not as tough as me, thanks to the elixir the red-haired girl got for me. Ever since taking it, I’ve never been defeated in a fight, and I heard it will forever be in my blood because it grants immortality.
Nevertheless, Zion was always full of tricks. Indeed, he could come up with something ugly. As I was about to agree to take him along, Kari’s suggestion changed everything.
