Chapter 26: Call me Zion(Annabelle)
My wolf? I haven’t felt any different since recovering from the torture, so how could I have possibly healed from the bruises? I never saw it, as I had not gotten close to a mirror, but if Alpha Zion was saying it, then it must be true.
Regarding my stomach, it felt strange that the pain had disappeared without the involvement of a healer. I wanted so much to have my wolf, but from what I heard, I would have heard her voice or even been able to shift if that were the case.
"Alpha, I don’t understand the strange things you are saying, but I haven’t connected with my wolf yet. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach when I was kicked, but it’s gone," I assured him. His fingers brushed my cheek, and I trembled slightly.
"Next time, call me Zion." As much as he was kind to me, it was wrong for me to take advantage of his generosity, so I quickly declined.
"No, you have already done so much for me, and I hope to repay you one day, but I will always address you with your title," I said firmly, noticing disappointment in his eyes as he withdrew his hands.
"Alright, you have ten minutes to prepare for your first training session. You already show great potential, just need some guidance to perfect your skills," he said.
With a nod, I hurried to the bedroom and changed into my training attire. There were numerous options, all in my size, making me wonder if I was in a dreamland.
A couple of weeks ago, I was hanging on to a few clothes and only one for training but now, I didn’t know which to choose from and it was all thanks to Alpha Zion.
I aspire to repay his kindness one day. The spacious, air-conditioned gym was impressive, a new experience for me, aside from cleaning. These facilities were typically reserved for tribe members, but somehow, I managed to earn the opportunity without much effort.
Referring to a stroke of luck, Alpha Zion was my lucky star, and I hope that one day he finds a mate deserving of all his kindness.
"The pack routines are straightforward. Full tribe members train at 4 am, finish at 7 am, and must be at their respective work posts by 8:30 am," he informed me. I found this to be a good thing and asked, "How long are the working hours?"
He walked towards a machine and gestured for me to join him as he explained, "To eliminate laziness, I emphasize speed by assigning supervisors to give everyone the same level of tasks. Once completed, you can finish the day and use the remaining hours as you wish, and it’s like this five days a week."
"Interesting," I remarked as he sighed and gestured for me to climb onto the machine he stood by. "This is a treadmill, so instead of running outside in the summer heat, you can run here in the air-conditioned room."
As he pressed a button, the treadmill pad started moving, giving me a strange sensation, but I quickly adjusted. He gradually increased the speed, and I matched his pace.
It had been a while since I had exercised like this, as I was more accustomed to doing chores than training. However, I found myself enjoying the machine, and surprisingly, fatigue didn’t set in until the speed began to decrease gradually.
I noticed a mix of shock and confusion in Alpha Zion’s eyes. "You’ve been on the treadmill for an hour at twenty-five miles per hour. Is there something you’re not telling me?" His expression was stern and suspicious, making me uneasy.
"I was born with natural speed, but why does it matter? Isn’t it a good thing?"
His expression darkened as he leaned in. "It would be a good thing if you weren’t hiding something from me. Are you a witch?" he asked, and my heart sank. Before I could respond, he asked again, "A vampire?"
Tears stung the corners of my eyes, but he wasn’t done. "A Lycan?" Everything he kept saying mirrored my confusion, just as his teeth gritted together.
"Werewolves don’t have that level of speed, and this must be the reason you aren’t shifting. Perhaps you aren’t one of us, and in that case, I can’t keep you here if you pose a threat to my kind."
His words hit me hard, and I sank to the floor, my mind in chaos. Back then, when others mentioned my speed, it never affected me the way his words did.
Suddenly, everything began to make sense. The way Kari and Ivy wanted my blood, were they suspicious of what I was? Mom did say that she wasn’t a werewolf, but she never mentioned what she was.
As for my father, I never met him, though mom said he was still alive. He simply cautioned me to keep my distance from him, but that only heightened my conscience and anxiety.
"Are you asking me to leave?" If that’s the case, I understand because every Alpha prioritizes the needs and protection of their tribe.
"Not yet, but all I ask for is your honesty if you want me to protect you and keep you here." He crouched in front of me, his smile gone, resembling Alpha Zack.
"I don’t know what I am, Alpha Zion, please believe me." I had disclosed everything except for the events of that night, which I found too shameful to reveal, along with my red hair.
Was that a clue? Should I mention it to him? As I was about to bring it up, he stood up. "I don’t think you need training. Your speed is unmatched, so let’s head to the farm."
He was already walking away, but his words struck a chord. "If I were as unbeatable as you claim, why couldn’t I defeat Alpha Zach? I felt as fragile as paper when I confronted him."
For some reason, he paused at my words before turning back to me. "Do you want to know Zach’s secret?"
