Chapter 40: Now that I’m falling for you

As Yeongsoo finished handing off the list to Zhen, he walked back inside, his lips quirking into a smile. Haeun’s playful protests echoed in his mind, and despite the challenges ahead, he was glad to see Haeun’s mood lifting.

Walking back into the living room, he found Haeun curled up on the couch, a blanket wrapped around him, his eyes half-closed. "The ingredient’s on its way," Yeongsoo said softly as he sat beside him, running a hand through Haeun’s hair.

"Mmm... good," Haeun mumbled, his voice drowsy. "And tell that guard not to take forever..."

"He won’t, I made sure he knew you’d be cranky if he did."

"Not cranky..." Haeun murmured, already halfway to sleep. "Just... hungry..."

Yeongsoo chuckled softly, watching as Haeun finally drifted off. He rested his hand on Haeun’s stomach, the warmth of it spreading across his palm.

"I’ll do everything in my power and beyond to keep you and the baby safe. I won’t let all your effort and your suffering be in vain.."

After saying this, Yeongsoo got up and went to start cooking with the ingredients that were available.

Not long after, Haeun opened his eyes his heart beating wildly if Yeongsoo had said it any second later he would have missed it. But now that he was wide awake, he couldn’t stop his racing heart.

Did you really mean what you said? You can’t ever leave me...now that I’m falling for you.

Haeun sighed as he stood up, he was no longer comfortable in these clothes and wanted to wear his pajamas.

"Where are you off to?"

Yeongsoo asked as he stared at Haeun who was already at the third step.

"Take a shower and get into something comfortable.." the clothes felt suffocating, if the weather wasn’t cold he would want stayed naked.

"Should I watch you?"

"..."

"I’m not a little kid, why would you do that?" Haeun pouted as he continued walking "Be a dutiful boyfriend and make me some good food.."

"..."

"Got it boss.."

Haeun walked into the bedroom, peeling off his clothes as he went. The weight of the day had left him feeling more tired than he’d realized. As he stood before the mirror, he caught sight of his reflection. His skin had grown paler, his cheeks slightly sunken, and the faint dark circles under his eyes were a reminder of the exhaustion he tried so hard to push through.

"When do I get that pregnancy glow?" He sighed, he felt even more like shit now.

But when he placed his hand on his stomach, a small smile tugged at his lips. "I can do this," he whispered to his reflection, his words almost like a mantra.

He stepped into the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and waited as the tub filled with hot water. The steam curled around him, the warmth of it already easing the tension in his shoulders. Slowly, he sank into the water, letting it soothe his sore muscles.

As the heat enveloped him, Haeun closed his eyes, his thoughts drifting to the words he’d overheard Yeongsoo say earlier.

"I’ll do everything in my power and beyond to keep you and the baby safe..."

His heart swelled with emotion. He hadn’t expected those words to hit him so deeply, but they did. It felt like the first time in a long while that he could trust someone else to shoulder the weight of the world with him.

But it also scared him.

"Don’t fall for him too hard," Haeun muttered to himself, though his chest tightened at the thought. "Too late for that" a small voice in his mind whispered.

Once the water started to cool, Haeun drained the tub and stepped out, wrapping a towel around his waist. He padded over to the mirror again, watching as the steam from his breath slowly dissipated. For a brief moment, he allowed himself to imagine a future where things were simple—where he and Yeongsoo could be together, without the complications of his condition or the fears that still lingered in his heart.

"I just want things to work out," Haeun whispered softly, his hand resting on his stomach once more.

After drying off, he changed into his pajamas, the soft fabric comforting against his skin. As he walked back to the living room, the smell of cooking filled the air, making his stomach rumble in anticipation.

Yeongsoo who was busy in the kitchen, glanced up as Haeun approached. "Feeling better?" he asked, his voice gentle but teasing.

Haeun smiled, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "Much better. And the food smells amazing."

"Well the ingredients just got here and I’m prepping up the beef, do you want some noddles as an appetizer?"

Haeun nodded as he walked to the counter chairs "Yes please, I’m hungry so keep them coming.."

Yeongsoo chuckled as he placed a bowl of stir fried glass noddles for Haeun, along with some dumplings and a sweet yet spicy sauce.

"I believe pregnant omegas shouldn’t have too much spice, so I made the sauce to be sweet, tangy and a bit spicy.."

"..."

"But I like the spiceeeeee.." Haeun whined as Yeongsoo chuckled placing another plate on the counter.

"I’ll ask the doctor how much spice is bad spice..."

Haeun dropped his chopsticks, as he finally remembered he had something to tell Yeongsoo.

"Hey...Yeongsoo.." Haeun asked as he scratched his chin, when Yeongsoo turned to face him he continued speaking.

"Next time if anything happens to me, take me to Dr.Choi of Han medical center, he’s my family’s doctor and has been my doctor since I was 9. He knows my health issues better than anyone.."

Yeongsoo washed his hands and sat opposite Haeun, placing the beef short ribs in front of him as he nodded.

"Alright, since he knows you best we’ll go there for future appointments and for Dr. Seo’s plan why don’t we have both doctors meet so we can come up with one plan to avoid going back and forth.."
