Chapter 41: Treats? do I look like your pet??
Haeun nodded thoughtfully as he bit into a dumpling. "That sounds like a good idea. Dr. Choi’s been around forever. He used to scold me for skipping check-ups, but he always knew what was wrong even before I did."
Yeongsoo leaned on the counter, watching Haeun eat with a small smile. "He sounds like someone who really cares."
"Yeah, he’s practically family at this point," Haeun replied, grabbing his chopsticks again to pick up another dumpling and placing it in Yeongsoo’s bowl. "You’d like him. He’s straightforward, no nonsense. A bit like you."
"Is that a compliment?" Yeongsoo raised a brow, smirking as he bit into the dumpling.
Haeun chuckled, nodding. "Yeah, definitely a compliment."
There was a comfortable silence for a moment, as Haeun stared at the beef short ribs that had been honey glazed. Noticing this Yeongsoo smiled and picked up the knife, cutting it into smaller pieces and placing it into Haeun’s bowl.
"So," Yeongsoo started as he added more rice to the plate, with some additional cabbages, "anything else I need to know about? Family quirks or secret medical conditions I should be aware of?"
Haeun shook his head, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "Nope. In my family I’m the only with a pheromone deficiency, my Dad’s and my younger brother are all healthy. My omega dad doesn’t have any pheromone deficiency at all, so sometimes I wonder where I got it from."
"Maybe from a relative? A grandfather or grandmother" Yeongsoo teased, placing a glass of water beside Haeun.
Haeun shot him a mock glare, though it softened quickly as he grabbed a rib. "Mhm...I don’t know, my alpha dad rarely talks about his family and my omega dad’s family is just too messy."
Munching the rice, he spoke up again "It’s such a pain calling them both dads, I call him mum, too much work...with all the titles and all that.."
"..."
"He doesn’t mind?" Yeongsoo asked, he had an actual woman as his mother, he didn’t have to worry about calling a man..Mum.
"Pfft! I wish, he happily goes around saying he’s my dad’s wife, he doesn’t mind it neither do we and most people familiar with them have gotten used to it."
Yeongsoo raised a brow, he guessed Haeun must have gotten his carefree attitude from his omega father.
"Hey, where did you put my computer?" Haeun asked, glancing around the room as he finally realized he had taken it home with him.
Yeongsoo, still drying his hands after cleaning up in the kitchen, looked over at him. "Your gaming setup? I moved it to the study. Thought you’d want a quieter place to play," he said with a small smile.
Haeun blinked, a bit surprised. "There’s a study here?"
"Yeah, it’s a small room at the end over there. Figured it’d be a good spot to set up your games," Yeongsoo explained. "I even made sure the desk was all organized for you."
Haeun nodded slowly. "Thank you, I was wondering where it went. I’ll check it out."
As he headed to the room, Yeongsoo sighed as he stared at the text message on his screen.
He’d have to leave soon.
Haeun made his way to the study, excitement bubbling inside him as he set up his gaming computer. He plugged in the keyboard and mouse, adjusted the monitor, and took a moment to soak in the familiar setup. The soft hum of the computer filled the room, and as the screen lit up, he felt a rush of nostalgia.
Once the game booted up, he selected Edge of the Shadows and dove right into the Xianxia-inspired fantasy world he had created. As he began to navigate through the lush landscapes, an idea struck him. "I should create a sect to see how smoothly it runs" he muttered out loud.
Haeun smirked, his fingers flying over the keyboard. "I’ll call it ’Apple Dumplings’! It’ll be the cutest sect ever." He chuckled at the thought, envisioning adorable characters clad in fruity garb.
As he began customizing his sect, he reminded himself to keep his expectations in check. "Don’t get too attached, Haeun. It’s just a beta. The actual game is about to be released" he muttered, shaking his head at his own enthusiasm. "But I can still have fun with this."
After finalizing the sect name, he paused to think about his character’s gamer name. "Ah, XxNeXus," he whispered, typing it into the designated field. "This was the name he had been using for years, anyone who was a gamer...knew who he was."
Just then, Yeongsoo walked in, interrupting his thoughts. "Hey, I just wanted to let you know I have to head out for a couple of hours," he said, leaning against the doorframe, glancing at the screen.
Haeun looked up, a hint of disappointment crossing his face. "Oh... really? When will you get back?"
"Yeah, just some errands I need to run. I won’t be long," Yeongsoo reassured him with a smile. "Are you good here? Don’t forget to take breaks."
"I will, don’t worry. Im just creating my sect and customize my character," Haeun replied, gesturing animatedly at the screen. "I can manage without you for a bit. I’m not a little kid."
".."
"You always say that and that makes me ever more worried.." Yeongsoo sighed as he walked closer, leaning he gave Haeun a kiss on the cheek and said "I’ll be back soon, if anything happens call me immediately. I’ll bring some treats for you on my way back.."
".."
"Treats?? Yeongsoo do I look like your pet? Humph! Humph!" Haeun pouted as he turned his face away.
"Haha, that’s not what I meant...you’re such a baby." Standing up, Yeongsoo stared at the screen for a split second before saying "Be good, I’ll be back in a while.."
Haeun nodded and waved his hands, he wasn’t a little kid, he could take care of himself.
"I’ll be fine, go and do whatever you want to do...just don’t disappear on me.."
