Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride
Chapter 89: CONGRATULATIONS, FRIEND!

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: CONGRATULATIONS, FRIEND!

Several minutes later, all gloominess had disappeared, as Briar was holding a small box with something that she had been waiting to get her hands on for a very long time.

Bertha looked at Briar with a helpless smile but understood the kind of emotions she was feeling at that moment.

Watching on the other side were two people. One male and one female, and both of them seemed to be around the same age.

The female turned to Bertha and suddenly asked, "Bertha, are you really going to watch her drool like that when she has a banquet to attend?"

Bertha shrugged, a smile on her face as she looked at the other and answered, "Irene, why spoil her moment? Have you forgotten the day you got yours?"

Upon hearing that, Irene’s eyes squinted as she reminisced about that day. If she wasn’t mistaken, she was slightly worse than Briar; it was understandable.

The only male in the room sighed faintly before saying, "Don’t forget that we don’t have time today. We can’t risk getting exposed!" reminding the ladies.

Upon hearing that, Briar, who was in a daze because of what she had received, grinned sheepishly before opening the box in a hurry.

Inside the small box was a beautiful titanium ring engraved with one single letter in bold, C on the outside. When she looked into the inner ring, a smile blossomed on her face as she saw her name beautifully engraved inside it.

This was something that she was supposed to get before she got into that accident. If only that didn’t happen, she might have seen the people who brought the rings over. Thankfully, despite being not there, they still left her ring.

She had waited for it for three years. She would have regretted it if they hadn’t left it.

Briar wore the ring without hesitation on her pinkie finger and it fitted perfectly.

She looked at her three other friends and spotted the same ring on their fingers as well. Seeing herself with the ring like them, she started feeling like she was indeed part of them. The feeling was surreal.

"Now that B has gotten her ring, I want to say congratulations friend. You now have your man and recognition from the organization," George, the male, sincerely congratulated as he pulled Briar for a hug.

Briar grinned widely as she patted George’s firm back and responded enthusiastically.

"Continue to take care of me, friend!"

George smiled dotingly at the youngest and nodded. "Don’t worry. I will always do so!"

Briar was pulled for more hugs by Bertha and Irene, and she enjoyed being congratulated by them.

Once the handover was done, George said, "You girls need to go. Even if you have an upset stomach, you can’t be gone for a long time!"

Bertha nodded as she agreed to that.

"We will be leaving now. Don’t worry."

Irene added, "Don’t forget about the meeting tomorrow."

Both Briar and Bertha nodded, keeping in mind about the appointment.

"We won’t forget. We are going now. Talk later."

With everything sorted out, the two ladies finally left the hotel room with smiles on their faces.

They took the elevator to the floor where the banquet was being held.

When they exited the elevator, they came across some familiar faces, however; they didn’t bother to deal with them. After all, they haven’t done anything to them yet.

Briar and Bertha passed these ladies and headed back to the banquet hall.

When the ladies who had been looking for the two saw the two appearing from the elevator and passing them without saying a word, they were so fumed that they wanted to vent somewhere. Unfortunately, there were so many people who couldn’t be seen acting like idiots. So, they could only suppress their discontent inwardly and returned to the banquet hall.

Meanwhile, in the hall, Madam Meyer and Lady Helen were having a headache. Their daughters-in-law’s visit to the restroom was taking much longer than anticipated and the banquet was about to start. Where were those two?

As they were about to go and look for them, the two culprits entered the room with smiles on their faces. With a glance, the two mothers-in-law could tell that these two had become closer. Seeing that, they became relaxed and the smiles on their faces increased.

Having the friendship, they have nurtured being passed onto the next generation made them happy, obviously.

Briar and Bertha joined the rest at the table, with Briar sitting between Madam Meyer and Bertha.

The two mothers-in-law didn’t forget to inquire about their whereabouts, and Bertha answered this one.

"Mother, I happened to meet a friend of mine and we ended up getting delayed. Sorry for that."

With Bertha saying that what more could the older ladies say?

In addition, the host of the banquet appeared, signifying the start of the banquet. Any other questions were completely thrown out of the window at this stage.

Briar had never enjoyed a banquet or an event the way she enjoyed this way. Maybe it was because she was in a room full of beautiful women and she was one of them.

So many gazes were being cast on her side, and it made her feel as if she was floating. Her ego was being flared, and the feeling was quite addictive.

The banquet was being held by a prestigious lady who owned a charity foundation which was geared to empower the girl child and women. This banquet was being held as a way to appreciate the great work the women did a month ago when Briar was still recuperating from her injuries.

There was a lot that was talked about at the banquet and it helped Briar to understand more of what was going on. She matched the faces with the profiles she had memorized earlier. With Bertha by her side, she managed to know one or two people who were good among the bad batches.

Briar had always trusted Bertha’s sense of judgement, so she followed most of what she said. As long as it made sense.

The boring part of the banquet ended and ushered in the moment that everyone loved. Eating and mingling.

Briar once again found herself being introduced to the other ladies, who didn’t see her when she arrived.

Although it was strenuous, she still maintained a polite smile and suppressed herself.

"What does Mrs. Meyer do?"

"Are you well, now?"

"Which family do you hail from?"

There were good and bad questions being asked. However, Briar just answered those which sounded good. As for provocative and interrogatory questions, she didn’t answer them at all.

Time ticked by fast, and before they knew it, the banquet finally came to an end.
