Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride -
Chapter 70: TREATMENT AND RECUPERATION
Chapter 70: Chapter 70: TREATMENT AND RECUPERATION
Time ticked by and it was a few days since Briar’s discharge from the hospital.
These few days were quite harmonious. She didn’t have to wake up early in the morning to deal with the kids or Logan.
She just slept and woke up when her body felt like it. The only problem was taking medicine. Her traditional medicine was much better compared to these pills. However, one needed to follow the doctor’s orders.
So, she vowed that once the pills were taken, and the ordeal was done, she was going to start brewing her medicine and fortify her body.
However, for now, she needed to abide by the rules.
With days swiftly passing, it also meant that the time was drawing near for that shock therapy Briar was set to do, though she was supposed to act like she didn’t know.
It so happened that it was the day of the appointment.
"Second mother, are you done?" Tiana asked excitedly as she scanned Briar from head to toe.
Briar smiled weakly as she looked at this child she loved dearly and yet felt sorry for.
If it wasn’t for her, then maybe .....
She quickly jolted herself back to reality, pushing that matter aside.
The past should remain in the past.
"Um, I am done!" she weakly answered as she spread her arms for the little to girl to see.
Briar was preparing to visit the hospital for another checkup, and Tiana was there to accompany her when changing.
Tiana grinned at her, her big eyes squinting happily.
"Then let’s go. Dad is waiting!" she said urgingly.
Briar didn’t decline the girl’s enthusiasm but stretched her hand towards the other and got dragged out of the room, or rather she let herself be pulled gently by Tiana.
When they arrived downstairs, Lyra, Cade, and Logan were in the living room.
"Second mother!"
"Second mother!"
"You are done?"
Everyone chirped, and she coughed lightly, answering, "cough .... Um, I am," feigning weakness.
Seeing her so weak like that, the kids and Logan, who were used to seeing only the robust side of her, couldn’t help but feel emotional.
It was indeed very touching and disturbing seeing her like that.
Logan rose to his feet and walked towards her. Tiana tacitly let go of Briar’s hand and let her father take it before she joined her siblings.
"We will be leaving for the hospital. You behave yourselves and don’t let anything untoward happen when we aren’t here. Do you understand me?" Logan instructed the kids with a solemn gaze.
"Yes, Dad."
The kids who had wanted to go with the parents but got rejected, accepted their fate dejectedly, making Briar, who was watching feel her heartache, but she didn’t intercede for them.
If it was just a normal checkup, she would have urged Logan to let them tag along. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
"Take care of yourself!"
"Come back soon."
As a result, when they left the mansion a while later, the three kids stood outside watching as the car continued to move further away.
Briar lingeringly looked back at the mansion; her eyes were teary.
The thought of leaving the kids like that made her feel sour.
Logan, on the other hand, looked at Briar, who was acting as if she was being separated from the kids forever but didn’t say a word. He was afraid that if he said a thing, she might burst into tears and that would be bad for him.
Today’s procedure was very important and nothing should go wrong.
Briar wasn’t one to cause unnecessary trouble. Seeing Logan pretending as if he wasn’t seeing her, she also pretended to not have been seen. As a result, she forcefully took a nap and by the time she opened her eyes, they were arriving at the hospital.
Logan, seeing her awake as he was about to wake her up, heaved with relief and looked at her kindly, asking, "Did you sleep well?"
Briar looked at the man dazedly and shyly responded, while nodding her head lightly, "Um. I did."
Logan’s lips curled upwards when he saw her reaction. However, he didn’t tease her. Women were thin-skinned. At least this one. For shameless people like Selena and Anna, that was another story.
"That’s good. We have arrived at the hospital. Let’s go out," he softly said to her, informing her of where they were.
Briar nodded her head, though anyone could tell that she was still a bit sleepy.
In a daze, she alighted from the car wearing a mask and a wig. Due to the bald part of her head, Briar decided to have the whole head shaved. As a result, she was now bald. She couldn’t go anywhere with such a head, so she wore a wig.
With a mask hiding her face, Briar successfully entered the hospital with Logan as well as the bodyguards.
While heading towards the doctor’s office, someone called out to Logan.
"Mr. Meyer, you are back for an examination?" a female voice asked politely.
Upon hearing the voice, Briar who recognized the voice turned her head to look in the direction of where it came from and a smile blossomed on her face. Thankfully, the mask hides that pretty well, otherwise she would be answering so many questions.
Logan looked at the female doctor whom he couldn’t forget even if he wanted and responded, "Dr. Bertha!"
Bertha nodded smilingly at Logan before looking at Briar and called, "Mrs. Meyer!" greeting Briar.
Briar’s eyes lit up when she heard that title being called. She greeted back the doctor, who had greeted her in a weak voice, "Dr. Bertha," following what her husband had just said.
Logan didn’t sense anything and simply chatted briefly with the doctor before parting ways.
Briar’s heart was thumping like crazy after passing Bertha.
’It would be nice to meet her privately. Unfortunately, for now, I can’t go anywhere.’ She felt it a pity. Thankfully, there were other ways to communicate.
