Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride -
Chapter 60: I AM SORRY AND THANK YOU!
Chapter 60: Chapter 60: I AM SORRY AND THANK YOU!
She didn’t get to finish her train of thought as she found herself being embraced in those familiar arms.
"I am sorry, Briar, and thank you for everything!" those were the words that Logan said to her as she sobbed in his arms, pouring out her heart that was unknown to him.
When Logan saw her crying as soon as she saw him. Those emotions were clear for him to see as she looked at him. He could guess what she was thinking about.
Very sorry and guilty, probably for causing a mess with her suicide attempt.
Facing her, who only thought about his family despite just waking up like that, he found himself at a loss for words. He didn’t know what to say to her to make her feel better.
When he took her in his arms, all he could think about was how sorry he was towards her. If it wasn’t for his family and the pressure on her when she was being accused restlessly by Alice and trying to prove her innocent, though she used a method which he didn’t recommend. He could only say sorry to her.
Briar, who was told sorry and confused because of that, raised her head, exposing her teary face, completely ignorant at how messy she looked. Her eyes asked a clear question. ’Why are you sorry and thankful?’
She didn’t remember doing anything that required getting sorry. In fact, she should be the one saying sorry instead. So, what was he doing?
Seeing the confusion on her face, Logan had an urge to shower her with kisses.
How could he be suspicious of her?
Just look at how blank she looked.
That face and those eyes didn’t have an ounce of shrewdness in them. He really picked a treasure.
The treasure, who had no clue that her position and view in Logan’s eyes had improved once again, was feeling a bit nervous at this point, though she was doing her best to remain calm.
’Did something happen when I was in a comma?’
’I couldn’t have been exposed, right?’
’He didn’t find anything that could incriminate me anywhere, right?’
’Or is it .... Could that vixen have been exposed? Wouldn’t that be good!?’
’If that vixen is exposed, then did that mean that ..... no .. I shouldn’t be hasty. I can’t be eager as well. Let’s wait and see what Logan is on about. I might end up opening my Pandora’s Box when no one knew about its existence.’
Logan, unaware of what was in her thoughts, was being jovial at finding this love-struck fool at an old age. He felt blessed.
Seeing her confused, he felt that she deserved an answer, so he sat down on the bed and she scooted to the side to accommodate.
Once he was seated, he held her hands, of which one of it still had a drip connected to it and said to her, "It’s been more than a week since you were hospitalized. How are you feeling?" he asked, his gaze on her briefly before moving to the forehead where the stitches could be seen and a portion of her hair gone because of the surgery.
He could see that stitch line which reached around 5cm on the head. She would need to wear a wig until the portion of the head grows hair.
Briar, who had no idea about her looks, had no single clue about her missing hair. She was just relieved that her thoughts were unnecessary.
What she was thinking wasn’t what Logan was after.
"I am feeling pretty good," she truthfully answered.
Her body felt much more energetic as if she never did anything.
With her deal with the ancestors, it would be unwise to send her back frail. The deal won’t stand if she was sickly.
How could a sickly person take care of a family or even do what they wanted?
Hearing her truthfully relaying and telling him how she felt, Logan approved of her even more.
Although some people always say that having a woman feigning weakness is attractive. At this stage, he was. If a woman does that, it would appear as being lied to.
He had enough after learning Selena’s true colors. Having a woman by his side who he could read like an open book was what he wanted now.
Although he wouldn’t admit it, he had somehow become a coward, and he was fearful of what women were capable of.
Thankfully, the person he picked was Briar. The foolish girl who didn’t even know how to fight for the man she loves. She would rather watch from the shadows and even planned to retire once Lyra was eighteen.
Wasn’t she good?
Briar, who had received a good card from Logan, had no clue about his thoughts and just committed to being truthful when answering Logan.
After hearing from her mouth that she was fine, Logan returned to the matter he spoke about when he entered the ward.
"Briar, I am very sorry. If it wasn’t for us, you wouldn’t .... I am sorry that you were forced and compelled to try to ...." Logan couldn’t find the courage to utter the words, but Briar understood.
She looked at him with teary eyes as she squeezed his hand, hoping that he wouldn’t stop. However, Logan wasn’t going to stop. He just wanted to let her know and understand him. He didn’t want her to misunderstand her and think that he suspected her or anything of that sort.
"I should have arrived sooner and saved you from what happened. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me, Alice and everyone?" he implored, his tone laced with dejection and remorse.
Briar’s eyes flickered and the corner of her lips twitched briefly, but Logan didn’t notice it at all.
Listening to him, Briar could only comfort herself mumbling inwardly, ’look at him excusing himself and hiding the fact that they were hiding and eavesdropping. Anyone who would hear him would think that by the time he saved me, he was just arriving. But who made him the man that I love? Since I can’t even let out the fact that I knew that they were there, I might as well accept what I have been given. Besides, seeing this, I guess that I won the bet. The issue should be solved. But how did it get solved?’
On the outside, however, she looked at him, tears threatening to stream down her cheeks as she answered, "Mr ..... no, L-Logan, I ..... you don’t need to be sorry. I .... Shouldn’t have ... I ....." acting too emotional to even finish a single sentence, choking on her words.
Hearing and seeing her like that, Logan’s heart ached. He felt as if someone was ripping it away from his rib cage.
He couldn’t help but recall the diary entry. To think that she suffered so much malice because of Selena’s devious plot, he hated the deceased Selena and her family even more.
Logan hugged her once again and started patting her back in comfort while coaxingly saying, "You don’t need to say anything. I understand everything. Let’s forget about the past and now let’s focus on the future, okay?"
Seeing how emotional she was when she tried to talk earlier. He had an inkling that he might open wounds he wasn’t willing to see open.
It was better to pretend that this never happened. He would compensate her in other ways.
If she continues to remember the past, what if .....?
He couldn’t let the truth of the past come out. Especially after knowing what Selena was up to over a decade ago.
He should make Briar forget everything as soon as possible.
Talking about forgetting, wouldn’t it be nice if he could hypnotize her and get rid of the memories that should exist?
As he patted her back lovingly, such a crazy plan was forming in his mind.
