Chapter 61: Chapter 61: FOOLISH GIRL!

On the other side, Madam Meyer was nervous as she stepped into the hospital.

She hadn’t tried to contact her son after he dropped. The knowledge that she was alive and awake was enough for her to make her jittery.

She just hoped that everything was well with Briar.

As a mother, she really felt sad for her daughter, Alice.

If something happened to Briar, then her daughter would blame herself for the rest of her life. She didn’t want Alice to carry on such a burden. Especially with all the bombshells about Selena dropping on them.

Her daughter deserved a rest, and with Briar waking up, she sincerely hoped that the other would find it possible in her heart to let go of the past.

Their family had wronged her for years. She didn’t deserve that.

She made her way to the floor where Briar’s ward was. When she arrived, she stopped at the door peeping inside.

While peeping, she couldn’t help but smile as she looked at the two who were embracing each other. She doesn’t remember the last time she saw her son being intimate with someone like that.

Although the marriage was a contract one, just looking at how those two were, maybe the fake would turn real. And probably in a year from now on, she would be holding another grandchild.

She still hadn’t forgotten that Tiana was still not her flesh and blood. At this time, having an additional child would lift her spirits.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Seeing the two people inside wouldn’t finish being intimate anytime soon, she knocked on the door. A polite thing to do since the people inside were engaged.

As she was knocking, the two people inside parted and Madam Meyer chuckled lightly, seeing how shy Briar looked when that happened.

It was true that this child loved her son. Just looking at how bashful she looked, Madam Meyer found the other more pleasing.

Creak.

Since the two had separated, she didn’t wait for anyone to allow her entry, but opened the door and walked into the ward with a smile on her face.

Briar had no idea that her mother-in-law would arrive that quickly. She was in the middle of enjoying her husband’s warm embrace when she arrived.

The thought of someone finding them in such a position made her feel very shy.

Showing affection in front of other people wasn’t easy. In fact, she could say that she had trained herself so hard to do her best to never let much get split.

No matter how much she wanted to hang herself around him and let the whole world know that he was hers, she couldn’t do so.

She would expose herself a lot, though she was certain that her secret was out.

However, as someone who was supposed to pretend as if she didn’t know that someone was listening in apart from Alice she was confronting, she had to pretend that she didn’t know, and neither did Madam Meyer.

She was going to continue playing pretend until she got wholly exposed.

Seeing her mother-in-law, she shyly looked at the other, her eyes darting all over the place as if she had been caught doing something inappropriate.

Logan, seeing the shy woman in front of him, badly wanted to bring her in his arms and shower him with love. However, this was bad timing.

He didn’t want to scare her yet. He just needed to wait until she was discharged to take the next step.

When others planned to boil the frog in warm water, he planned to increase the temperature.

What if, in the process of warming the frog, it ascends and then leaves the pot?

What would happen to his plans when something like that happens?

Nevertheless, this wasn’t the place to think about so much, he thought as he looked at his mother with a reassuring smile and said in a warm tone, "Mother, you are here!" glad to see how his mother treated this matter seriously.

Seeing her caring for the woman that he picked disregarding her status and showing so much concern, it meant that she had taken Briar as her daughter-in-law and would always stand by her. Disregard the real reasons behind such moves, as long as Briar feels welcomed and loved. He was willing to take and accept whatever comes his way.

Madam Meyer smiled at Logan and responded as she walked towards them, saying, "Um. I came as fast as I could. How is she?" and asked as she looked at Briar, who had shrunk her neck, an act of shying away.

Logan smiled when he heard that question. He shifted his gaze to look at Briar and said, "She is feeling well. She can be discharged at any time," relief in his tone as he said that.

When Madam Meyer heard that, her eyes lit up. Hearing that was good news. It meant that there were no sequelae of some sort. What she feared the most was having a case of amnesia happening with Briar or brain damage.

Although it sounded suspicious that she was faring well after going through that ordeal, she was glad. The rest could be dissected slowly and with time.

"That’s good! Praise the deities for their grace!" Madam Meyer said gratefully and earnestly as she stopped in front of Briar.

Briar shyly looked at Madam Meyer and, in a shy and low voice, greeted, "Hello, Auntie," as if she was a covert mosquito that didn’t want to be found out when drawing people.

Madam Meyer’s eyes crinkled into a smile as she looked at this daughter-in-law of hers.

It was unfortunate that before the official introductions, such a mess happened. Thank goodness she was doing better now.

Madam Meyer stretched her hands towards Briar, catching her by surprise.

’What does she want to do?’ she wondered curiously without evading her touch.

Madam Meyer’s hand went all the way to her head but didn’t touch anywhere. She could guess that was the place where she hit the fountain. It must look ugly, right?

However, the clear eyes of both mother and son proved otherwise.

"Child, you ....." Madam Meyer spoke but didn’t finish what she wanted to say as she took a deep breath, looking so emotional that her eyes were turning red.

’Is she crying for me?’ Briar found herself asking, her ego getting inflated at seeing such a scene.

If it was like that, then she needed to earn some brownie points.

And what better way to earn brownie points when you are sick?

Pretend to be pitiful?

NO! She wouldn’t use that trick at all.

If she does so, who knows if she might irk these two? After all, she was someone who let a lot of things slip from her mouth before trying to commit suicide.

In her case, doing the opposite would work.

With a forced smile on her face, she weakly reached for Madam Meyer’s right hand and, strugglingly, brought it to her head.

As she does so, Madam Meyer catches her breath, not daring to struggle.

The area where Briar was stitched didn’t look particularly beautiful. Maybe Briar hadn’t seen it yet, but anyone with a discerning eye could see it.

With just a glance, she knew that it must have hurt. Probably it does but at the moment she wasn’t feeling anything yet.

What if she touched there and then caused her pain?

Madam Meyer’s body was tense, but Briar was ignorant of that.

She weakly placed that hand on top of her head, recalling what the other wanted to do, but stopped at the last minute.

With the hand on top of her head, she firmly said, "Auntie, I am fine. It doesn’t hurt anymore," although, in the eyes of those looking at her, they were seeing something else.

Madam Meyer’s heart ached when she saw how this foolish girl was still trying to be strong despite everything.

Wasn’t this the moment when one showed weakness?

How could she be so foolish?
