Chapter 58: SHE IS AWAKE!
Chapter 58: Chapter 58: SHE IS AWAKE!
Inside Briar’s ward, it was tranquil with only the sounds from the vital signs monitors ringing in the room steadily.
Being accompanied by sound steadiness was the attending nurse who was checking Briar’s vitals.
Seeing that everything was okay, she jotted something down on the patient’s record and got ready to get out.
Since the patient was in a coma without knowing when she would wake up and showing no threatening signs, there wasn’t much to worry about.
Once she was done, she would leave and attend to other patients.
As she was reaching the door, something strange, or rather something unexpected, happened.
"Cough. Cough," suddenly in a room where she was supposed to be the only one who could do that, someone started coughing.
Since it wasn’t her, then who was coughing?
The nurse turned immediately, her eyes wide opened with a spark in them as she looked at the patient who was unconscious a moment ago and yet now awake and coughing.
Seeing the patient struggling to rise, the attending nurse rushed towards her as she softly instructed, "Please, don’t move. Just tell me what you want and I will do it for you," fearing that the patient might pull the needles into her body and cause a disaster.
This patient had been asleep for over a week. It would be disastrous if something happened after waking up like that.
Briar coughed lightly as she nodded at the nurse, who seemed to be so worried as if her head would leave her neck if she moved any longer.
In her mind, she was cursing the ancestors to their first generations.
Didn’t they know how to inform her that she was about to go?
At least let her prepare. Thank goodness her husband and stepchildren were nowhere to be found. As for the nurse, even if she loses her manner in front of her. What could she do?
The nurse gently laid her back on the bed before pressing the emergency button.
Shortly after that, a group of doctors hurried to the ward thinking that something bad happened to the patient, but when they saw the patient blinking and getting checked by the nurse, they inwardly heaved a sigh of relief.
It hadn’t been easy for them ever since the patient was admitted.
Mr. Meyer wasn’t easy to entertain, especially in a hospital. It was simply too intimidating having him lingering around the hospital.
"Mrs. Meyer, we will be checking you in detail. Please, forgive us in advance," the attending doctor softly told Briar.
Since she was awake, it was only right that she gets all sorts of tests done.
Briar nodded her head, agreeing to whatever the doctor wanted.
With her agreement, the tests started. Meanwhile, someone called Logan to inform him of the good news.
When Logan heard the news, he was in the office having a meeting, although his mind wasn’t there completely.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
In the middle of a report, the phone started ringing, making everyone in attendance pray silently for whoever forgot to mute the phone.
Logan, who had been out of sorts, darkened when he heard the phone ringing. He couldn’t help but icily ask, "Who is it?" feeling irritated at how someone could be so ignorant to forget to mute the phone when they were having such an important meeting.
However, Chris, who was sitting next to him, looked wryly at him and softly said, "Sir, it’s your phone that’s ringing," silently praying that this wouldn’t get his bonus cancelled.
When Logan heard that, his eyes flickered for a moment and stared coldly at Chris for a moment before fishing out the phone, which kept on ringing.
Inside, he was cursing the caller for calling at the wrong time and making him lose face. He nearly berated himself in front of so many people. Where would he put his face, if he had really said more?
Thankfully, he didn’t say much.
When he saw the caller ID, he clenched his fists, emitting a cold aura which made those near him tremble with fear, wondering what was angering the boss before he even picked up the phone.
Logan rose to his feet as his heart thumped like crazy, seeing that he was being called by the hospital.
He was relenting whether to answer it or not. He was very nervous and afraid. What if it’s bad news?
Could something have happened to Briar?
As he left the conference room without excusing himself, no one dared to utter a single word but just watched him leave.
Once he was outside, Logan nervously answered the phone, "Hello," praying earnestly for some good news.
[Hello, is this Mr. Meyer?]
"Um, it’s me. What is it?" he asked, speaking calmly and doing his best to contain himself.
[That’s good. I am calling regarding your wife .....] Hearing up to this point, Logan’s fist was clenched and his body tense, unprepared for what was coming, [... your wife is awake. Can you please come to the hospital?] but when the last part was said, Logan, like an idiot, hung up the phone and started laughing hysterically as if he was going crazy.
Chris, who had followed his boss, nervously stood there in a daze, feeling scared of what his boss might be going through right now.
Could it be that something bad happened to the madam?
He didn’t want to be pessimistic, but his boss’s actions were misleading and would make one think like that.
Nonetheless, he didn’t dare step forward to stop his boss from his moment. Despite the several employees watching that, he kept his distance. He had been working for Mr. Meyer for years and knew the man pretty well.
He was good when he was smiling, but when he was like this, it was better to stay away.
After laughing for a while, Logan felt much better. Even his aura changed from frosty to warm.
He turned his head to look at Chris, who he knew was following him, and instructed, "Continue with the meeting. You tell me the minutes later. I need to leave," his tone friendlier than before.
After saying that, without explaining what was happening, Logan lifted his feet and started going to his office to pack his essentials.
As for Chris, he could only watch the boss leaving everything to him. As for where he was going, he had no idea.
Thankfully, he had led several meetings and could deal with such pressure.
Meanwhile, Logan, after picking up his belongings at the office, called the mansion and talked to his mother.
"Mother, Briar is awake!" he informed before hanging up, without giving her a chance to respond.
As long as she knows, then the rest would happen, eventually. He just wanted to see his wife and he couldn’t wait.
Meanwhile, at the mansion, after getting the call from Logan, Madam Meyer didn’t linger longer at home but made several calls. She called her husband and then her daughter to inform them of the good news.
And just like Logan, she left for the hospital, eager to see her daughter-in-law. Her eyes were red and tears pooled in them.
She was thankful that Briar woke up earlier than anticipated. When a patient sleeps for longer, the probability of damaging the brain is higher as well.
Some people fall into commas and never wake up again. She didn’t want her son to become a widower again after marrying for a short time.
No matter what, this time around, her son and daughter-in-law should live until old age.
