Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride -
Chapter 165: BANQUET 3
Chapter 165: Chapter 165: BANQUET 3
Briar and Betha both stepped into the hall, their arms interlinked and smiles on their faces.
"Wow!"
"Doc, looks very good!"
"I can’t believe that I am seeing Mrs. Meyer finally!"
"Tche, does she think that hiding beneath makeup will make her part of us?"
The two friends ignored the chatter of everyone else and made their way to the group where their relatives were.
It’s been a few days since she saw her mother-in-law, and she was quite nervous despite knowing that the other wouldn’t forsake her no matter what.
For this woman who had done her best to accept her, Briar wanted to make her proud.
Because of her so-called illness, Briar couldn’t wear heels at all. She wasn’t really a fan of wearing something that high. She wanted to go for wedges, but Logan had explicitly talked to the stylists. As a result, the only options given to her were flats, but they all looked good.
So, beneath that gown which swept the floor, were a pair of comfortable flat shoes which she was happy to be wearing.
Who knows how long these ladies would force her to stand in the end?
Brushing aside that matter, Briar, who maintained a polite and kind smile on her face, shortly found herself approaching Madam Meyer, Alice and the others.
"There you are!" Madam Meyer exclaimed, her eyes squinted into crescents, approval in her eyes as she looked at Briar.
Briar smiled shyly as she stopped in front of the group.
"Mother, good evening!" she greeted shyly, separating from Bertha.
Madam Meyer motioned for her to come to her side, and Alice gave way.
Under the piercing gazes of many, Briar moved casually to her mother-in-law’s side with a smile and stood next to her obediently.
"You look well!"
Briar grinned sheepishly and nodded, "Thank you, mother. I am also feeling well!"
Madam Meyer was happy to hear that. She took Briar’s hand in hers and patted it. No one knows what she was thinking, but it didn’t matter.
After a moment, Madam Meyer cleared her throat as she looked at the ladies around the same age as her and apologetically said, ’I am sorry about this. Briar isn’t feeling well, so ....." she dragged her words a bit before completing her sentence, "Let me introduce you to Briar, my daughter-in-law."
Briar shyly looked at the aunties around, her gaze full of naivety and innocence. It made those ladies like her so much.
Briar was introduced to the ladies once more, and she politely and obediently greeted each of them without being pretentious.
"I heard that you are ill. How are you feeling now?"
"I am feeling much better, otherwise I wouldn’t have come here. Which would be a pity!" Briar responded earnestly; her tone tinged with playfulness, which made other people chuckle lightly.
"Haha, child, you are really ... I can see why she likes you!"
Briar, being more at ease, interacted with the old ladies and answered them without incriminating herself.
After a chat with the old ladies, she shifted her focus to the young ones and among them, she knew Bertha, Alice and Vivian, who had left her mother at some point and joined them.
There were other ladies that she didn’t know and she got to know them thanks to the three that she already knew.
When everyone else arrived, the host of the banquet also made her appearance and Briar was there to applaud, seeing the lady who didn’t seem to age.
With the host at the scene, everyone sat down at their respective seats and tables.
At Briar’s table, there was her, Bertha and two more pairs she didn’t know but got to know thanks to Bertha, who made the introductions.
With the boring stuff being talked about, she and the other ladies were busy whispering since they were settled at the back rather than in the front. They couldn’t be easily seen, making it perfect for them to be more relaxed.
"Briar, if you are not feeling well, remember to tell me, okay?" Bertha reminded Briar, seeing her adjusting her sitting position.
Briar gratefully nodded at Bertha and responded, "Sure, I will."
The others, hearing that, knew that Briar wasn’t feeling well, but she didn’t look like it. However, they didn’t judge. After all, who had never been sick before?
"So, Briar, what kind of job do you do?" the other ladies asked curiously.
Unlike a few who knew Logan’s affairs, these four had no clue. They were simply in awe of Briar and were curious about what kind of job Briar, who was chosen by Logan, was doing.
When Bertha heard that, her eyes flashed with a murderous glint and was about to lash at the others, but a warm and soft hand tapped her thigh, which forced her to cool down.
Briar, after coaxing Bertha, looked at the curious ladies without any fury. It was understandable that they would ask such a question, and she wasn’t offended by it even by a bit.
After being with Logan, listening to his assurances every single time, and understanding his love for her, even though at times it was tinged with guilt, she knew her worth.
If he wasn’t embarrassed about her. If his family accepted her for who she was, then who was she to feel embarrassed for herself?
Besides, every occupation was precious. Without it, some other people would have difficulties in their day-to-day living.
There wasn’t anything shameful about what she does, so she when that question was asked, she was relieved. She had never wrecked anyone’s marriage or family. She was never a mistress, so there wasn’t anything to be embarrassed about.
So, she looked at the ladies with a smile on her face and answered truthfully, "I am currently a housewife, but previously I was the family nanny for over a decade," a hint of pride in her tone as she said that.
She was never ashamed of her nanny occupation. After all, if it wasn’t for it, she wouldn’t have what she had right now.
