Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride -
Chapter 166: BANQUET 4
Chapter 166: Chapter 166: BANQUET 4
The four never expected such an answer, to be honest. They were very surprised, a bit shocked, but when they saw the seriousness and sincerity on that face, they suddenly loosened up and broke into smiles.
"Wow!"
"I wasn’t expecting that."
"How was it like to raise them?"
There was a burst of exclaims of surprise at first from the ladies, and before Briar knew it, she was busy being bombarded with questions.
She could tell that they didn’t mean any harm but were full of curiosity.
"I have always loved children. Children are gifts from the deities. Having three to take care of, I felt like the most blessed person ever born!" Briar’s eyes lit up as she talked about the children.
Bertha had a smile on her face as she listened to that.
Briar was crazy at times, but her love and sincerity for those kids and Logan were real. For them, Briar could do anything.
Thinking about Briar’s belly, a tinge of pity washed over her. Wasn’t there something to be done, to change the future that seemed to be unchangeable?
The four ladies light up when they hear Briar’s response. They were very eager to ask more.
The more they asked and got answers, the more they knew about Briar and liked her.
While the boring speeches were ongoing, the six became close and Briar finally had interest to cram to memory their names as well.
"Briar, I have an exhibition starting next week. Can you come?" Lia, one of the four ladies, asked nervously, her eyes sparkling through as she extended an invitation to Briar.
Briar had never gone to an exhibition before, so she was quite interested.
"When exactly next week? Because I will be out of the city until Monday," Briar asked cumulatively, not forgetting that she had a journey to take to her home village.
When Lia heard that, her expression turned sullen for a moment before her eyes light up, "it’s starting on Sunday afternoon and ending on Tuesday. So, you can still come and have a look!"
When Briar heard that, she heaved a sigh of relief, glad that she would be attending this exhibit somehow.
"That’s good then. You just send me the details. Once I am back, I will make sure to attend and see what it is all about."
"What kind of exhibition is it?" Bertha asked curiously, her fingers drumming the table rhythmically.
"I am a painter. Been hoarding paintings for two years, so now it’s time to let them out in the world," Lia answered excitedly, as she shared her passion.
Thanks to that question, Briar managed to know what she would be seeing, lest she lose faces when the time arrives.
The six of them were getting along very well, and the program was also moving well and in sync.
"I will not waste any more of your time, ladies. We have shared our passions, and it’s now time for everyone to have something to eat and mingle. Have a great night!" the MC finally said something that made Briar become interested in what was happening to the front.
She wasn’t alone, and many were very glad.
Once that was said, soft music started playing, and Briar watched as several ladies stood from their chairs and started making their way to THE other tables.
At that moment, Briar was forced to her feet by Bertha who shamelessly said, "let me show you some interesting people while we munch on some food!" her words more of a statement and not a suggestion.
With Bertha acting like that, the other four thought that the idea was good, so the six of them moved to the buffet area.
Briar, being ill and in the process of recovering, didn’t pick anything spicy but went for milder foods. She didn’t pick any wine; she wasn’t really a huge fan of something that could make her lose it, though she was confident that she wouldn’t have such an ending.
If she drinks, then Logan should be around. Getting drunk when her lover was around was more productive. At least, she can get to seduce him and make him see her intoxicated side, which she was sure he would love.
Bertha, being a doctor, didn’t oppose to Briar’s choice of foods. However, just because she didn’t oppose, didn’t mean that others didn’t have any opinion.
"Tsk, tsk, just look at her! Even at a function like this, she doesn’t dare take a glass of wine!"
"Hehe, what’s the point of taking it? Can she even taste it and understand it?"
Two ladies with not-so-good-looking faces came from behind and started talking to themselves, but their words seemed to be targeting Briar in every sense.
Briar rolled her eyes as she listened to that, but didn’t bother to give them any attention.
She simply picked what she wanted and a glass of orange juice, and nudged at Bertha, whose face was puffing to go.
"Ignore them!" Briar advised as she started moving.
Bertha turned her head and gave those two a warning glare before following Briar with a moody expression.
"Tche. Just a magpie occupying the dove’s nest!"
"If it wasn’t that she knew the children well, would she even have a chance to become Logan’s wife?"
"I find it a pity that a lowly nanny can attend such an event with us. Isn’t that the same as giving those shameless mistresses a chance to be part of us?"
Lia and the others weren’t planning on following Briar and Bertha, as they had their own plans.
So, when these two sour grapes were busy complaining and tainting Briar’s reputation without care while exposing her previous occupation, which honestly, after some talk with Briar, didn’t seem to be that bad, Lia was angered.
She looked at the two ladies she didn’t even recall. She couldn’t even put one by one and see which families they came from.
"Instead of being sour and tarnishing another woman’s reputation, why don’t you improve yourselves?" suddenly Lia lashed at the two, her eyes blazing red as she looked at them two.
The two, upon being pointed at, glared at Lia with hostility and retorted, "Who are you to talk to us like that?"
"Her friends!" Lia defended strongly; her gaze determined.
"Tche, her friends? You are just trying to fawn over those with power, but is she really worth it? If she was, then why didn’t she get an invitation directly? Why didn’t her in-laws bring her? She had to be brought by an outsider. And you are busy _" one of the two sour grapes spoke, her voice on the higher side, and her words very unpleasant to listen to.
