Chapter 135: Chapter 135: DON’T JUDGE THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

With her youngest daughter in hand, Briar held her hand and turned to look at Chloe and said smilingly to her, "Let’s talk on the phone later when you are free. I still need to pick the other kids."

Chloe nodded understandingly at her and promised to call later.

After dealing with Chloe and biding farewell to her and Kelly, Briar and Tiana left for the car.

While Chloe and Kelly walked to Chloe’s car and on their way, Kelly asked her mother curiously, "Mother, are you two friends now?" eager to know about this matter.

Kelly smiled at her daughter, whom she felt very apologetic towards, and sighed wryly, "I am not sure, but probably if things work out, we might be!" unsure of the future as well.

After all, who knows if she would continue to talk to her after hearing what she had to say about that question she didn’t get to answer earlier?

It was stressful just thinking about it.

On Briar’s side, she and Tiana were in the car and on their way to pick up Lyra and Cade was busy chatting about the weekend and school.

"We went to play at the arcade, but brother didn’t let me win. He was so mean!" Tiana complained the most, though, and Briar found it very funny and cute.

"Then next time, I will win for you. How about that?"

"Hehe, you promised!"

"Um, I did. What else did you do?"

And Tiana was happy to share. Briar was glad that the kids enjoyed themselves and had a lot of fun.

It wasn’t easy to let these kids have siblings time because of their age gaps. So, she was happy to hear that it was successful.

As for how these kids spent the majority of their time playing games, she couldn’t even complain about that. After all, she was the one who ditched them for a date with Logan. She didn’t have the face to nag at all.

While they were on the road to school, Lyra was busy packing her bags. The last lesson had ended quite early. Something happened to the teacher’s family, so it was cut short.

There were still a lot of minutes before the bell rang, but she was packing and she wasn’t alone.

"Who is picking you up today? How about I drop you off today?’ Eugene asked excitedly as she packed her bag sitting next to Lyra.

Lyra looked at her friend with a smile and shook her head apologetically. "I am afraid that it’s impossible today. You should have suggested it in the morning."

Eugene sulked as she looked at Lyra like a wronged wife. And asked dejectedly, "Can’t you just ditch the driver and let me send you?"

Lyra rolled her eyes at Eugene and rejected, "Nope! I can’t do that today!"

Eugene stomped her feet dramatically, and each movement made the desk squeak, causing a small disturbance for others. "Come on, Lyra!"

Lyra firmly shook her head, saying, ’Second mother is coming to pick me up. She is on the way right now with Tiana," revealing the truth to Eugene.

When that was said, Eugene’s eyes widened as she looked at Lyra with a teasing smile on her face and cooed, "Oh~~~ ditching your friend for your second mother, now? Hehe, why didn’t she send you in the morning? I thought that she loved doing that!"

Lyra rolled her eyes at Eugene, hearing her teasing but still answered her honestly, "She was having a long weekend date with father thus not sending us this morning!"

Eugene was taken aback when she heard that and her small brain started doing mental calculations and the more, she did, the more she looked at Lyra with a panicked expression.

Lyra sighed helplessly as she saw her friend’s thoughts that were written all over her face as she digested what she had just said.

If she didn’t know about Briar’s feelings for the family and the other things that the adults thought they didn’t know, she would have shared the same thoughts with Eugene. However, it wasn’t like that at all.

She was happy having those two going out to spend time together. She didn’t know if there was a fruitful harvest and if there would be additions to the family which she wouldn’t mind. After all, binding her second mother with a child to the family would make her stay put in the family without thinking of going anywhere.

She didn’t believe that she was the type who would neglect them just because she had her own children. So, she wasn’t worried about that at all.

However, Eugene didn’t think like that at all. She was worried sick and looked at Lyra with eyes that spoke volumes.

Lyra patted Eugene’s shoulder and said, "Stop overthinking. She is not like that. If you spend time with her, you will understand and even like her," hoping that Eugene would stop looking at her second mother like those vixens who were fake and tend to break other people’s homes once they get what they wanted.

Eugene, seeing Lyra defending her stepmother once again, didn’t know how to respond, but she inwardly thought to herself that she was going to observe her closely and judge for herself.

After all, what she knew about the other when she was a nanny couldn’t be used anymore now that she was the legal wife.

Seeing Eugene silent, Lyra heaved with relief and decided to have her friends come for a sleepover one of these days. Only then could her friends feel at ease. She hoped.

When the bell rang, everyone picked up their bags and started leaving.

On the way to the gate, Eugene suddenly suggested as their group were together, "We haven’t met Lyra’s new mother officially. How about we have a sleepover or spend some weekend there another time?" while looking at Lyra?

Lyra chuckled faintly when she heard that. She was even thinking about suggesting something like that as well. Never thought that Eugene would beat her to it, so she readily agreed to the suggestion.

"How about I talk to my parents at home and see if they would be free during the weekend? It would be a waste if you guys come and they aren’t available!" Lyra, however, didn’t readily set a date as she felt that consulting with the elders was the right thing to do.

After getting ditched on Friday, she was afraid that the two might elope and leave them on their own after plans had been made. So, making an appointment earlier would solve problems.

The friends didn’t object to that. After all, they were still kids and needed their parents’ consent.

Just like that, the deal was made, and all that remained was getting the date.

Before reaching the gate, Lyra’s group met with Cade’s and the two groups harmoniously walked together to the end.
