Chapter 136: Chapter 136: I MISSED YOU

When Briar saw the group of kids walking her way, she was surprised and became panicky. She had never met these kids at once before. Having them all come at her at once was a bit overwhelming and scary.

Although she didn’t want to admit it, she really cared a lot about what other people thought. Her stepchildren’s friends were part of their lives and their words or actions played a huge role in affecting them.

What if they say some disturbing words to Lyra and Cade, which would affect and implicate the way they look at her? How would she solve that matter?

It wasn’t all stepmothers that were very good to their stepchildren. There was this common belief that stepmothers weren’t good people and were always concerned about their benefits. As long as it didn’t benefit them, they wouldn’t bother to put in more effort.

Of course, that belief was very true as indeed people were selfish, but were they the only people who were selfish in this world?

Does it become a crime or a sin just because a stepmother wants to have her own child or look after her biological children better?

The more she thought about the unfairness of this matter, the more she wanted to set it aside lest she get angry. Thankfully, she once talked about the issue with the kids and they understood her.

However, their friends had their own thoughts and she couldn’t influence their thoughts at all. So, she could only hope that they wouldn’t think far and judge her before they knew each other well.

Nonetheless, she was a bit nervous and anxious that all the hard work she put on that night would be wasted. But as a big girl who was filled with nothing but patience, plastered a bright smile and looked welcoming as she looked lovingly at the eldest children she loved dearly as well.

When Lyra and Cade exited the school gate, they spotted the family’s car immediately and so did they see Briar and Tiana, who were playing, skipping around Briar like a wheel.

Seeing her standing there, dressed simply and not looking obnoxious and exaggerated, the kids smiled brighter.

Some women tend to start trends which weren’t unnecessary just to have their presence known, especially after getting married into a rich family. It would be disturbing if Briar followed that. Thankfully, she never changed.

While the two were feeling happy about that, Eugene and the other friends took their time to observe earnestly Briar. Although they have seen her numerous times, back then she didn’t matter, so they barely paid more attention but now things have changed.

Briar sensed the hot gazes fixated on her but pretended as if she wasn’t sensing them and merely focused on the kids more than anything else.

She opened her arms wide with a grin on her face and a playful smile in her eyes. She didn’t say a single word, but those two knew exactly what she was gunning for and they were willing to play along.

As a result, Eugene watched stunningly as the two teenagers threw themselves like kinds in their stepmother’s arms, giggling and teasing each other.

Tiana was busy tagging either Lyra or Cade, her childish voice on the louder side, clamoring about how these two adults shouldn’t hoard their second mother.

"Aren’t you going away?"

"Hehe, you already spent your time and now it’s ours!" Lyra retorted provokingly, making Tiana’s cheeks puff up with anger.

Eugene couldn’t help but chuckle seeing how happy and harmonized they all looked like. If they didn’t know that was the stepmother and stepchildren, they would have thought that it was the big sister and the younger siblings.

Seeing all that, she couldn’t help but seriously ponder. Was Briar truly good to her friend?

She was starting to feel conflicted.

Briar chuckled helplessly as she watched the three shamelessly play around her. They haven’t seen each other for three nights and yet it felt like ages.

"I missed you guys!" she couldn’t help but say out loud, a genuine smile on her face, what had happened during the weekend and it made her feel like she was naked.

Cade didn’t joke with her but responded in a cool tone, "I missed you too," and it made her heart race wildly.

Cade was like his father. They were stingy with words, but very good with their actions.

Feeling a bit hot with all the sentimentality, Briar shifted her focus to the friends of the kids and smiled at them.

Upon seeing that they had been finally spotted, the kids naturally did what kids always do; greet their elders and Briar responded enthusiastically.

Briar didn’t have anything to talk about with the friends, so she nodded at them after exchanging pleasantries, turned to the kids and said softly, "bade your friends goodbye. We have a long journey to make," before holding Tiana’s small hand and bringing her to the car.

Lyra and Cade both nodded at Briar before facing their friends.

Briar didn’t listen to what they were saying, but moments later, the two joined them in the car. Once they were all on board, the car finally left, driving back home.

Eugene watched the car leave with a smile and turned to her other friend. "What do you think?" and asked curiously.

The other friend nodded, though in her eyes there was a mysterious glint flashing in it.

"Let’s wait and see. But so far, I can’t complain," the friend responded.

"And neither can I!" Eugene echoed, a playful smile tugging her lips.

Since a plan had already been formulated, the group of friends saw no need to rack their brains and make themselves feel depressed when they could just observe closely when it was time.

It wasn’t like she was going to hide her true self from others until death.

They always say a leopard never changes its spots, and they were quite eager to see how things would turn out in the future.

Who couldn’t dare be curious?
