Chapter 110: Chapter 110: PANDORA’S BOX COUNTERMEASURES

Irene, being the host, took out breakfast and everyone gathered in the dining room, where they ate merrily while chatting about this and that.

After breakfast, Bertha volunteered to do the dishes and Vivian tagged along, which was something that the three of them, excluding Vivian, wanted to see.

With Vivian in the mix, it was impossible for Briar to meet with Irene on the side and get the news that she wanted.

So once Vivian volunteered to join the dishes team, Irene and Briar both excused themselves and went upstairs for some private talk.

Inside the study, Irene took out a small gift bag and handed it over to Briar, who looked excited. Her gaze couldn’t hide her happiness at all.

Irene smiled joyfully upon seeing that. Giving something to Briar was always a wonderful thing, as she would experience the wonderful feeling of giving.

Briar was very good with her reactions and expressions when faced with people she really trusted. In front of them, Briar never hides who she really was, though she was quite surprised when she learnt of the big secret that she had been hiding in her Pandora’s Box for so many years.

However, compared to the other things that they did after knowing each other, the shock quickly vanished. After all, who had never done a few wrong things before?

Briar had no clue about what Irene was thinking. She happily accepted the gift bag and opened it. Inside the bag, there was a small jade bottle. She knew what it was instantly. She raised her eyes and looked at Irene gratefully.

"Open it and see!" Irene urged smilingly, curious to see what it was like in person as well.

Briar didn’t stand on ceremony and hurriedly opened the bottle and a refreshing medicinal fragrance hit her. She couldn’t help but close her eyes as she felt the herb scent filling her.

As someone who played with herbs, though not occasionally, she could tell that the quality of the herbs used in making the small pill inside the bottle was something else. Though she couldn’t discern the other herbs she was smelling, there were a few she had chanced upon in the many years she had touched herbs.

If only she knew much, maybe she would be able to replicate the process and perhaps find a business opportunity. Unfortunately, she wasn’t that omnipotent.

After getting a smell of the pill, she closed the bottle and looked at Irene, saying, "Thanks, dear. I will never forget this favor!"

Irene smiled as she waved her hand nonchalantly and answered, "This is what friends are for. Besides, haven’t you also helped us a lot before?"

Upon hearing that, Briar smiled shyly, recalling the small things she had indeed helped her friends with, but how could that match with what they had done?

However, she didn’t say a thing, as she understood Irene pretty well. Continuing to pressure her with this and that would only make her upset. Since they were friends, there was no need to make another person feel uncomfortable.

Briar put away the bottle in her handbag before she looked at Irene, eagerness in her eyes.

When Irene saw that, she knew what the other person wanted, so she didn’t make things difficult but went straight to the point.

"I have been looking into people who might be looking into you and I happen to come across a web of them," Irene told Briar as she pushed the tablet over to her, which she had just opened a while ago.

Briar accepted the tablet and looked at the screen, which showed a networking diagram with names which made her frown in puzzlement.

On the diagram, she spotted names that she recognized and another she didn’t recognize at all.

There was Tim, who was Alice’s cheating fiancé, whom she believed Alice was in the middle of dealing with him now that she knew about his infidelity. Then there was another familiar name belonging to a person she loathed next to Selena, Anna.

Briar didn’t expect that Anna, despite being sent away, wasn’t sitting still but busy playing games. She even brought along her parents, seeing how her name seemed to have been mentioned several times between the three.

And then there was a name she didn’t recognize at all; Raine Queen. Just who was this person and why was she looking into her?

Briar, after checking the names, looked at Irene puzzlingly and asked her, "What’s going on with this Raine person? Who is she?"

Dealing with people she was used to, like Anna, wasn’t difficult, but dealing with unknown enemies wouldn’t be too good.

Irene chuckled faintly upon seeing how clueless her friend was. How would she survive when she was that lax?

She sighed dejectedly as she recalled all the information she had found about this person. Nonetheless, she still needed to share the information. That way, they would find a way to prepare for whatever dangers Raine would bring to Briar in the future.

"Darling, that Raine person could be considered being part of your husband’s gang!"

When Briar heard that, her eyes widened in shock as she exclaimed, "What? How come I don’t know her?"

This was simply ridiculous. She knew all of Logan’s friends. Whether they were men or women, though, she was certain she had never seen any female friend anywhere near Logan. Whatever woman gets closer to him, she has ill intentions. So, he barely has female friends. So where was this female friend coming from?

Irene wasn’t shocked when she got Briar’s reaction. Even she had no idea that she would come across such information. After all, she was the person in charge of helping her circle of friends to look into things. She even helped Briar to look into Logan a lot of times, and yet she had never come across the information about Raine and her association with Logan.

"I was surprised as well. Anyway, this Raine person used to play with Logan and his gang back in high school. When they graduated, Raine moved abroad with her family and had barely returned. So, she literally became forgotten with time," Irene explained to Briar.

When Briar heard that, she felt that it made sense. If the person hadn’t been in touch for nearly two decades, then it was normal for her to be forgotten. If she had visited or something before, then maybe she would have known something about her.

"So, what does this person have to do with what might happen to me?" Briar curiously asked, puzzled by Raine’s interest in her.

Irene’s lips curled upward as she recalled the messages, she had found between Raine and Anna.

"It seems that Raine has a crush on your husband and since he could marry you, a former nanny, she might think that her chance is finally here. After all, no one really thought that Logan would remarry after being alone for so many years."

Briar snorted when she heard that. Raine wasn’t the only woman with such a thought, but could they even win over her who had planned flawlessly for over a decade?

Did these women take her for a fool?

"However, so far apart from looking into you personally, I haven’t found anything that reveals that she knew what we know."

"So, does that mean that she might not be the person who might put me in trouble in the future?" Briar frowned as she asked that.

Irene regretfully nodded her head as she answered, "It might be the case, but I will keep on monitoring them. However, I have found some clues from Tim and Anna. These two had been in cahoots from day one. It was Anna who came up with the whole thing and had Tim approach Anna. She ...."

Briar couldn’t believe what her ears were hearing. It was simply hilarious. To think that a friend could scheme against a friend like that. What would she gain?

Apparently, Anna was that vicious. She was the kind of mother who could eat her cubs if needed. She indeed paid Tim to approach Anna, and the reason was obvious. She didn’t want Alice to live happily and decided to play tricks on her. Time wouldn’t want to be controlled by a woman, so playing with her would be interesting.

As long as Alice doesn’t have happiness, Anna should be happy, though Briar doesn’t understand why she would mess up with a friend like that. It was unfortunate that Alice ended up getting used by two people she used to trust and love. Unfortunately, that was life.

That was why she disliked having too many friends. Who knows if the ones you have are genuine to you or are with you for other reasons?

Briar was truly thankful for this additional information. If this was to be released somehow, the Meyer family’s reputation would be squashed and that would affect the family as well as the company. She wouldn’t have Tim destroy what she loved the most.

So, she had Irene send the information anonymously to Alice. If Alice was going to change her mind one day to reconcile with Anna, this information would make her lose any interest completely, which would work in her favor.

After dealing with Tim’s matter, Irene dropped another bomb on her.
