Chapter 109: Chapter 109: FRIENDS MEETING

Two days later, Briar was smiling as she looked at her reflection in the mirror, applying lipstick to her lips.

She was in a good mood and couldn’t contain it at all.

Her hair had grown a bit, and she was no longer bald. In a week or so, her hair should be long enough to allow her to plait box braids.

She was tired of wearing wigs. Thankfully, her mother-in-law hadn’t dragged her to another banquet, otherwise, the fear of having that wig falling all the time would taunt her always.

After making sure that her face looked good, she picked the wig and put it on. She had gotten accustomed to wearing the wig, especially when going out. She didn’t dare lose face for her family.

After a change of clothes and everything, she picked up her handbag before walking out of the bedroom.

Downstairs, she met with Uncle Marcus, who told her that Vivian was waiting for her outside already. After thanking the butler, she left the house, skipping happily like a child, making the older man shake his head with a doting smile on his face.

Sometimes, the madam acts as if she isn’t the madam but a child. That innocence made him both feel relieved and worried. However, it might be good to have her like this. At least, the house would be peaceful and they wouldn’t need to worry about any schemes coming from her.

Briar had no idea about what the butler was thinking about her. She was just happy that she was going to see her friends. It wasn’t going to be Vivian alone, but others as well.

She received a message from Irene who gave her a date, which happened to be today. Vivian, who had made an appointment with her, couldn’t let her down. So, she decided to let the friends meet. She had kept them from each other for years.

"I nearly thought that I wasn’t going to see you anytime soon, Mrs. Meyer!" Vivian teasingly said, making Briar flush shyly.

"You .... Why are you teasing me?" she asked, embarrassingly as she scratched her chin.

Vivian burst into laughter, loving how Briar looked when she was shy.

"Hehe, ever since you got married, you forgot you have friends! How can I not tease you?"

Upon hearing that, Briar felt guilty. She had been so preoccupied that she hadn’t spent much time with Vivian at all.

"Sorry, V. I will make it up to you in the future!" she promised earnestly, earning a smile from Vivian.

Vivian harrumphed moments later after Briar approached her and said, "You must remember that!"

Briar grinned as she patted Vivian’s shoulder and nodded solemnly. "I won’t forget, which is why today I will introduce you to a few friends I recently made. How about that?"

When Vivian heard that, she looked at Briar from head to toe as if to check whether she was still the same person.

Briar let her friend do that until she was certain before the other spoke. "You can actually make friends?" she asked in a shocking tone.

Upon hearing that, Briar snorted as she walked towards the car door and answered, "umph! I can scare myself when I start doing things!"

Vivian was startled by such a response but shortly found herself laughing heartily. She didn’t feel upset at all that Briar had other friends apart from her. It wasn’t like she didn’t have friends herself.

With how Briar was introverted and was concerned with the children, the other barely left the house. If she had relied on playing with Briar, she wouldn’t have any friends at all.

Briar seeing Vivian laughing at her, ignored the other and boarded the car. Vivian’s laughter rang throughout, making the servants wonder what their madam had done for the other to laugh heartily like that.

Vivian wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes once she was in the car. She didn’t put the car in the ignition as soon as she was seated, but looked at Briar and asked, "Darling, how many friends are we seeing today? Should I buy presents?" her tone was very serious.

Those questions took aback Briar, who was planning on ignoring Vivian for a while. She looked at Vivian suspiciously and the other shrugged. Briar rolled her eyes at Vivian and answered begrudgingly, "They are just two! There is no need for gifts!"

When Vivian heard that, she nodded, accepting that. "Since you said that, then we will just go empty-handed," she understandably said, before starting the car.

Briar nodded. Her friends weren’t complicated and if they started handing gifts to one another, when would the cycle end?

On the way, Vivian was full of questions, curious about how Briar met these friends, and Briar did her best to answer, filtering what shouldn’t be said out.

"I met the first one at the banquet. She is a doctor and a daughter-in-law for my mother-in-law’s friend ....."

Briar talked about Briar and how she met Irene, who was a close friend of Bertha. She didn’t expose the fact that she had known these friends first before Vivian. She didn’t want to explain herself much or expose the reason which brought them together.

Vivian didn’t suspect a single thing. With Briar being the daughter-in-law of the Meyers, her knowing other ladies out there was pretty normal. The news had already spread about Briar in the circles. Her other friends were even curious about Briar and wanted to see her.

After all, it wasn’t every time that a real case of Cinderella happened to people very close to them.

Briar was meeting with the girls at Irene’s villa, so it took a while.

Vivian was quite surprised when she drove into the gated complex. She didn’t expect that one of Briar’s friends lived in such a famous complex.

There were a lot of popular complexes where rich people lived. And this place was one of them.

With Briar’s guidance, Vivian shortly found herself parking next to a fancy white sportscar making her click her tongue at how some people were so rich.

The two of them alighted from the car and with Briar’s lead, the two walked towards the door, where Briar pressed the bell and the door opened shortly.

"Let’s go inside!" Briar urged Vivian as she stepped forward.

Vivian followed along and couldn’t help but look around the house as soon as she entered. With a glance, she could tell that whoever lived in that house was very rich and the taste was great.

There were several paintings from popular artists hanging there and vases with flowers. She felt her head ache. If her parents were to see this, they would curse 24/7. Fortunately, they would never know and she would never tell them.

Briar, on the other side, was feeling jittery, looking forward to seeing her friends, or rather anxious to receive something from them.

With familiarity, she walked towards the living room where she could hear voices and surely when she got there; she found the two ladies seated on the sofas with the TV on.

"Good morning, girls!" Briar cheerfully greeted them as she entered the living room, making the two turn their heads to look at her with smiles on their faces.

"Morning dear!"

"You look wonderful this morning!"

Briar grinned bashfully at the two, feeling happy with the compliments. However, she didn’t let the compliments make her forget that she didn’t come alone.

She stopped in her tracks and waited for Vivian, who was just a few steps behind her. And once she was in the open; she grabbed her arm and said to the two.

"Girls, meet my other best friend, Vivian. She is my neighbor!" Briar introduced Vivian to Bertha and Irene before turning to Vivian to finish the introductions. "And dear, meet Bertha and Irene, my other two best friends."

Vivian was shocked, to be honest. She didn’t expect that the friends Briar was talking about would be these two.

When she heard about them earlier, she didn’t match the names and the people she knew, but now that they were face to face, she couldn’t help but applaud Briar’s ability to pick people. No wonder why she was boasting that she would scare herself if she got serious.

Otherwise, how could she have picked such a famous and recognized surgeon as her friend, and Irene, who was known as X, the famous e-sports gamer?

These two were literally legends, and she couldn’t believe that Briar managed to befriend them easily like that. At a time like this, she couldn’t help but be envious. How could Briar befriend them?

Was the title of Mrs. Meyer that good?

She felt sour but still managed to contain herself.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Bertha and Irene," Vivian sincerely spoke, with her dark thoughts hidden.

Bertha and Vivian were happy to meet the friend who had been by their youngest’s side for years, so they welcomed Vivian warmly and moments later, everyone was close, as if they had been friends for ages.
