Chapter 384: Chapter 280: The Perfect Villain Look _2
Running back and forth extended the journey, and it seemed unnecessary, but Feng Yi didn’t mind. Having more runs in the mountains was something he wouldn’t be able to do for a long time once he returned to the city. There would be no mountains to run through.
With the mission in the mountains completed, Feng Yi felt much more relaxed. He no longer had to make up excuses to deal with Captain Wen and the others.
So, from then on, Feng Yi walked with a leisurely, exploratory mood toward the outskirts of the mountains.
During his time in the mountain range, Feng Yi saw the tunnels and railways that cut through it. He heard that after the mountain range was closed off, some people who couldn’t enter the mountains would take a slow train across them during certain seasons each year to document the changing scenery despite spending most of their time in tunnels.
Captain Wen had said that people decades ago made great sacrifices to build this railway.
The weather was nice, and Feng Yi, who had just frolicked and bathed in the river, sat on a large rock basking in the sun and gazed at the tunnel ahead.
By the sound of it, a train was coming, not with great speed.
He opened his camera and aimed it that way.
The train slowly emerging from the tunnel wasn’t the high-speed train filled with a sense of modern technology that Feng Yi was used to but one with more of a sense of eras and sentiment.
Inside the train.
There was a teacher holding an album, explaining to the students which place they were passing by and the stories and legends associated with it.
There were passengers with smartphones, their cameras turned on towards the windows, letting the lens record automatically while their eyes were unfocused, contemplating something unknown.
Some were sleeping soundly in the haze.
Some were whispering to one another.
They had grown accustomed to the rhythm and scenery of this train.
However, this time on exiting the tunnel, some people glanced out the windows and saw a person in the mountains.
Elementary school children shouted and waved in that direction.
Seeing this, other passengers looked outside as well.
Those who had been daydreaming also shifted their attention to the windows.
In the mountains, Feng Yi, sitting on that prominent rock, couldn’t make out what they were shouting in the train, but when he saw the children waving at him, he lifted his hand in response.
The elementary school children grew even more excited when they received a response.
It wasn’t until the train re-entered the tunnel that Feng Yi turned his gaze away.
He checked the video he’d filmed, zooming in to get a better look. This trip, there were quite a few passengers on the train.
But given the brief time and distance, it was unlikely anyone recognized him.
He opened a bag of biscuits, gnawing on them while writing his mission log. Writing more now would mean less to compile and revise upon leaving the mountains.
After he finished eating, he was almost done with the day’s mission log, and his clothes had dried as well.
He rose and continued on his way.
If his calculations were correct, he should be able to leave the mountains by tomorrow without any issues.
Once out, he planned to have a big meal!
He would regain all the weight he had lost during this time in the mountains!
He could definitely tell he had slimmed down during his time in the mountains. The food he ate provided limited energy.
Of course, as long as he wasn’t exceedingly hungry, he still enjoyed lingering in the mountains.
If it weren’t for the concern of being seen or captured on camera, he would transform into his true form and climb around the mountains for a few more days.
The mountain weather was indeed unpredictable, and Feng Yi had also deeply experienced the small-scale climate variations that ordinary people would find hard to withstand.
In the evening, a sudden rainfall began in Feng Yi’s location.
At first, the rain was quite heavy, but after a while, it slowed down without ceasing.
Feng Yi walked barefoot among the woods.
When it rained, he walked even more steadily barefoot. Scales on his feet provided extra grip against slipping.
According to his plan, he would not sleep that night but continue on his way and be out by tomorrow afternoon.
However, plans can’t keep up with changes.
Feng Yi encountered an injured adult male giant panda, whimpering in pain.
From a distance, the dense trees hid its black and white form, making it hard to see with the naked eye. The sounds of disruption were too abundant in the rainy weather, and the faint sound of its whimpering was drowned out by the rain.
But Feng Yi relied more on scent than sight to find his targets, allowing him to pinpoint them accurately.
Having found his target, Feng Yi looked at the bear in front of him.
He didn’t know if it had lost a fight for a mate or had been chased off while fighting for food or territory. It had several bite wounds from encounters with its own kind, and the rain had washed away much of the blood, obscuring how much it had bled. On top of that, there was its own health crisis.
Using his senses, Feng Yi could tell that this one wasn’t entirely wild but likely a panda that had been raised in captivity and then released.
It seemed that post-release life hadn’t been ideal for it. It was thin and in poor health. Add the bite injuries and the current weather, and he didn’t know if it could survive the night if left unattended.
Differentiating the scents remaining in the air, Feng Yi could roughly guess its route of activity.
And the direction of this route...
Feng Yi looked forward.
In that direction, two kilometers further, there was a rescue station.
Was it seeking help?
Had it turned to humans after losing a fight and getting injured?
Was it that clever?
Regardless of whether it was or wasn’t, having encountered it here, Feng Yi decided to lend a hand. After all, the animal had a special status; it wouldn’t be right to leave it alone.
Feng Yi approached.
If it were an ordinary person, one should never underestimate any wild animal in the forest, especially large predators like this one.
Even if reduced to its last breath, it might still cause fatal injuries.
However, Feng Yi’s defenses were strong; he didn’t have to worry about that.
He inspected its injuries up close; there were no clear fractures, but its condition was still serious.
Without the means to carry it away steadily, and without other options,
In this weather, even if he went to find help, who knew when he could bring the rescue team here. And if he did bring people, it wouldn’t be convenient to transport the animal for treatment.
