Chapter 703: Chapter 0704: Actually, Ye Qiu Knows French [The Twentieth Update]
In the Heavenly Court Imperial Medical Bureau, Ye Qiu had seen all kinds of Immortals and demons. As for the God who ruled the West, Ye Qiu had only heard of him but never seen him with his own eyes.
However, now from the Soul Consciousness he had absorbed, Ye Qiu knew that Christianity, which Westerners believed in, was indeed related to God.
Ye Qiu did not take a close look at the bat-shaped objects in front of him; however, he could clearly see that they were very delicate, possibly made from special metal materials, rather than ordinary gold, silver, copper, or iron.
As for the books on the shelves, if they were in French, Italian, Latin, Spanish, and so on, Ye Qiu could understand them quite well.
If they were in minor languages, he would not understand, because the Soul Consciousness he had absorbed did not recognize those languages.
Picking up a book to read at random, Ye Qiu discovered it was about European medieval religion, yet the content seemed to have little to do with Christianity, which surprised and intrigued him.
He was not interested, though, and placed the book back on its original shelf. Ye Qiu opened the window of the room and looked out; he could see far into the distance, spotting distant castles and vast estates.
Yet now, under the night sky, all was quiet, seemingly devoid of any other sound.
Ye Qiu did not close the window. Although the weather in France was very different from back home, particularly at night, when it could drop below thirteen degrees Celsius, no air conditioning was needed. Instead, a blanket was necessary for sleep.
Ye Qiu returned to the large bed, preparing to cultivate the Primordial Five Emperors Technique with the help of the moonlight here. He had expended a lot of Spiritual Energy treating Count Charley earlier and needed to replenish it.
They say the moon is rounder abroad than at home, but Ye Qiu found the moon in France was not rounder than in his country; however, the moonlight did look truly different.
Back home, except when it was raining or blocked by dark clouds, the moonlight was very bright and could be seen even in the city.
But if rain was coming or clouds obscured it, the moonlight would not be so evident.
Ye Qiu now noticed that the moonlight in France was not only dim, but it also had a hint of blood red, giving a feeling that it was tinged with red.
Ye Qiu couldn’t understand why this was the case, but as long as there was moonlight, it was alright.
Just as Ye Qiu was preparing to sit down and cultivate, he suddenly heard a knock at the door. He thought it was Zhou Wenting looking for him, but when he got up to open the door, it was two young maids.
One of the young maids handed Ye Qiu a sleeping robe, obviously intended for him to use when sleeping at night.
"You can go do other things, no need to stay here," Ye Qiu said.
He neither required the services of the two young and beautiful maids nor needed them to stand by the door.
Ye Qiu was not accustomed to it.
The two young maids seemed not to understand him, so Ye Qiu could only say in French, "Ladies, I don’t need you to stay here."
The two young maids were greatly surprised!
They had presumed Ye Qiu did not speak French and couldn’t understand it, yet his fluency shocked them. Did that mean he had understood everything they had said while bathing him?
The two maids were in a flurry, but Ye Qiu simply said, "Whatever you said earlier, I’ve already forgotten."
The young maids were then reassured.
However, they were summoned here by Ivan, the butler, to serve Ye Qiu, and were to bring anything Ye Qiu needed immediately.
Now that Ye Qiu had cured Count Charley, the Archbishop’s illness, he became a distinguished guest of this castle.
Yet, Ye Qiu did not allow them to enter to serve him, which meant they could only wait at the doorway.
Ye Qiu shook his head, closed the door behind him, went back to his room, put on a wide sleeping robe—which indeed was much more comfortable than the suit he had been wearing.
Ye Qiu sat cross-legged on the large bed to cultivate the "Primordial Five Emperors Technique." He silently recited the mnemonic verses of the mental method. The endless stream of Moonlight Essence flowed directly through the window into Ye Qiu’s meridians, moving throughout his body, and then transformed into Spiritual Energy stored at his Dantian.
Now in Ye Qiu’s Dantian, an Eight Trigrams Array had formed. Part of it contained Spiritual Energy, and part of it contained Turbid Qi; one did not interfere with the other.
Ye Qiu didn’t know the purpose of this Turbid Qi, but he knew that the deathly energy, toxic gases, and the foul air absorbed from Count Charley today had all entered the Turbid Qi section.
The Spiritual Energy was colorless and transparent, invisible like the Moonlight Essence.
However, when the deathly energy, toxic gases, and the foul air absorbed today entered the Dantian, Ye Qiu could see it was a black gas.
Now with the absorption of the Moonlight Essence, it continued to pour into his meridians and then into his Dantian.
Ye Qiu did not know how much time had passed when he suddenly felt many things flying outside the window. Upon opening his eyes, if it were anyone else, they might jump with fright—huge bats, larger than the palm of a hand, all with red eyes. In the night, the sight was particularly terrifying.
Even though they only made noise when flying and didn’t emit any cries, the sound, coupled with the sight of pairs of red eyes, could scare anyone.
In rural China, there were many bats, but they were nothing like those in Europe. The Chinese bats could be seen in the countryside’s forests and fields both day and night, flitting about catching mosquitoes.
However, having come here, Ye Qiu saw these bats, not knowing whether they ate mosquitoes, but in this castle, so many bats flying in and out was something a regular person might not be able to tolerate.
Ye Qiu noticed the bats and thought they looked very similar to the bat decorations he had seen in the evening, and it was likely they were modeled after these bats.
However, having recognized these creatures, Ye Qiu didn’t dwell on it. He closed his eyes once more and continued to absorb the Moonlight Essence.
...
In another room, Zhou Wenting lay in a 60 to 70 square meter guest room. Although the room was luxurious and full of amenities,
every time she thought of the skeletons in Count Charley’s master room, she felt uncomfortable. Moreover, this vast guest room housed only her.
Now, she dared not even open the windows, and outside the room door, she always felt like someone was moving around. She did not know whether it was the bodyguards or the maids, or somebody else.
This kind of castle with hundreds of years of history—having housed who knows how many people, where countless had been born and died—indeed, at night it could be even more frightening than the old houses in the countryside that had been lived in by several generations.
Zhou Wenting had always considered herself fearless. As someone who studied internal medicine and often performed autopsies, there was little she had not seen.
Yet, for some reason, this time she felt an inexplicable fear.
Zhou Wenting didn’t know how long it had been as she lay there with her eyes wide open, on the soft and fluffy bed, covered by a blanket, but she kept feeling like a pair of red eyes were watching her.
Zhou Wenting realized she couldn’t stand it any longer, feeling extremely sleepy. As she closed her eyes, ready to fall asleep and wait for the day to come, suddenly she felt even more pairs of red eyes staring at her!
