Chapter 702: Chapter 0703: A Sumptuous Dinner [The 19th Update]
The grand castle contained its own luxurious dining restaurant; however, Ivan the butler now led Ye Qiu, Zhou Wenting, and Viscountess Louise out to the castle’s courtyard for their meal, which was much more comfortable than dining inside the luxurious restaurant.
After Ivan the butler departed, Viscountess Louise looked at Ye Qiu with curiosity. She felt that Ye Qiu’s medical skills were truly incredible, even more formidable than what Zhou Wenting had described.
After all, Louise knew that Count Charley had been wounded by an evil object, and even holy water and holy artifacts could not heal him.
When Ye Qiu noticed he was being watched by such a beautiful French woman, he felt a bit perplexed. Why was she looking at him like that?
Zhou Wenting thought that Ye Qiu did not understand French, and Ye Qiu did not wish to show that he did, allowing Wenting to feel that staying by his side was at least beneficial.
Zhou Wenting and Louise conversed in French amid laughter, just like the two young maids speaking French during their baths.
Both women assumed Ye Qiu could not understand their French, but he heard everything loud and clear.
About fifteen minutes later, Ivan the butler returned, followed by a group of chefs carrying steaming dishes.
"Respected Dr. Ye, Miss Zhou, Viscountess Louise, these are French dishes. Please enjoy your meal at your leisure. I must attend to Count Charley!"
After Ivan the butler said this and respectfully bowed and left, he brought to the circular dining table in the courtyard dishes, bowls, knives, forks, golden chopsticks, and napkins, all laid out individually.
Ye Qiu placed the napkin under his neck with such proficiency that both Zhou Wenting and Viscountess Louise were taken aback; they had initially thought Ye Qiu did not know how to use them.
Although western restaurants in Huaxia also provided such napkins, most people were not accustomed to using them, and instead would usually just wipe their mouths with a paper napkin after their meal.
There were also two bottles of the purest French wine, produced by the vineyards of Count Charley’s estate. As the young maid opened the bottle and poured the wine into glasses, Ye Qiu immediately caught the rich fragrance of the grape wine.
Although many imported French wines were available in Huaxia, Ye Qiu found that they were somewhat different from those here.
After the young maid had poured three glasses of wine, the chefs began to serve the French dishes.
French pancakes, foie gras, oyster cups, escargot au gratin, Chateaubriand steak, marengo chicken – though not served course after course as in some finer French dining experiences outside, the dozen or so dishes now presented were extremely lavish.
French cuisine, heralded as one of the world’s three great cuisines and passed down from the ancient royal families, was certain to be authentic here, given that Count Charley’s ancestors once served as French emperors.
As Ye Qiu began tasting the French dishes before him, Zhou Wenting also began to eat. However, having experienced French cuisine during her studies in France, she realized she still preferred Huaxia cuisine, knowing it tasted much better.
The imperial cuisine of Ye Qiu’s Imperial Cuisine Restaurant, derived from the royal dishes of Huaxia’s royal family, was certainly no less exquisite.
Viscountess Louise, on the other hand, appeared to merely savor her meal slowly. Her eating was extremely graceful, silent, and without any noise.
This was the etiquette of the nobility, something that only an upbringing from a family of at least three generations of nobles could produce in a princess.
Conversely, Zhou Wenting was not quite so refined, creating small sounds while eating and proactively offering food to Ye Qiu.
To foreigners, this might seem unhygienic and impolite, but Wenting didn’t seem to mind; on the contrary, she felt it showed closeness with Ye Qiu.
After they had their fill of the sumptuous French dinner, with dessert and salad still to come, Zhou Wenting was already full, and Louise, only having eaten to sixty percent of her capacity, stopped without partaking further; she merely tasted a bit of the dessert to signify she had eaten, then touched no more.
Ye Qiu didn’t mind at all, finding the desserts and salads here far superior to those in Huaxia’s western restaurants.
Those in Huaxia could only be described as knock-offs, whereas these here were the real deal.
The two young maids had been standing by the whole time, watching. They only assisted with pouring the wine after Ye Qiu and the others had finished their glasses, otherwise remaining at their station.
It seemed that these great families really were different!
Ye Qiu finished his dinner and sat down below for a while, yet he still felt that Count Charley, the Archbishop, was different from the archbishops he had imagined.
Now, when he looked up at this castle, it did not give him the feeling of the light brought by God, but rather a darkness.
That darkness enveloped the entire castle and its surroundings.
This castle was the tallest around, with no other tall buildings to block it, so why did he have such a feeling?
Could it be because of the way the grand castle was built?
Ye Qiu didn’t know.
However, he knew that the illness Count Charley had contracted was not so simple.
After resting there for half an hour, Ye Qiu, Zhou Wenting, and Louise, followed by the two young maids, returned to the seventh floor.
Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting’s rooms were both on the seventh floor, but as for where Viscountess Louise lived, Ye Qiu had no idea.
When they reached the seventh floor, Louise said to Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting, "Dr. Ye, Wenting, you must be very tired after such a long flight. You should rest now, and I will come to find you tomorrow."
Wenting had not expected that Louise would actually be leaving.
Now, she still wanted Louise to stay with her, because she felt an indescribable fear inside this large castle.
Thinking back to those terrifying skulls she saw in Count Charley’s master bedroom, Zhou Wenting still felt uneasy.
Even though she was a lingerie designer and had seen many human dissections during her time at the University of Marseilles, she found that this place was still different.
When Ye Qiu entered his room alone, to his surprise, the two young and beautiful maids followed him.
Could it be that these two young maids were there to keep him company for the night?
Even if these young maids agreed, Ye Qiu was not willing.
After all, if they were willing to share the bed with him, it meant they would do the same with other guests. Thinking about this, Ye Qiu felt it was dirty; he did not want to touch such women.
"Don’t come in, I can sleep alone."
Ye Qiu said in Chinese.
The two young maids seemed to not understand what Ye Qiu was saying, but from his gestures, they got the message.
Ye Qiu went inside and immediately closed the door, not allowing the two young maids to enter.
When Ye Qiu came in just now, he had already seen the room’s situation: there was a luxurious big bed with more than a dozen sets of home textiles, each with different uses.
Ye Qiu had never seen so many matching home textiles before; after all, the basics like sheets, quilt, pillows, and mosquito net were usually enough, but beyond that, there were various decorations, and jumping onto it, Ye Qiu felt it was very soft and comfortable.
Underneath was the furniture made of precious and rare solid wood, possibly imported from Africa, while the bed was laid with what seemed to be silk sheets, and other ornaments were of even higher quality.
Lying on that big bed, Ye Qiu looked at the large bookshelf, which was of a European classical style, filled with many books, and adorned with various items.
Among them, he saw more of those bat objects, similar to the ones he had seen in Count Charley’s master bedroom.
