Chapter 704: Chapter 705: White-haired Red-eyed Bat [The 21st Update]

Zhou Wenting saw pairs of red eyes watching her from above the room. If it had been just one pair, she might not have felt anything, but the sudden discovery of so many red-eyed creatures looking at her scared her so much that she got out of bed and hurried towards the door.

When she got outside, two young maids were still standing there.

Seeing Zhou Wenting come out, the two young maids thought she might need something.

"Miss Zhou, do you need any service?"

"I, I don’t want to sleep in that room!"

Zhou Wenting said.

The two young maids exchanged a glance, then led Zhou Wenting to another room in the castle.

There were many rooms in this castle, and even more that were empty and uninhabited. Now that Zhou Wenting requested a room change, the two young maids took her to another room. Upon entering, Zhou Wenting saw outside the window a dark expanse as if something was flying.

However, she did not see those pairs of red eyes anymore, and she was not as scared as before.

"Miss Zhou, please rest."

The two young maids left the room, closed the door, and still stood guard outside.

Zhou Wenting lay on the soft, big bed, feeling that this trip was somehow different from the France she was familiar with. This castle filled her with an indefinable sense of dread.

She was genuinely frightened!

But she and Ye Qiu were not that kind of relationship, and it would certainly be inappropriate for them to sleep together in Zhou Wenting’s mind.

Gradually, Zhou Wenting fell asleep due to her extreme tiredness.

...

Ye Qiu knew that the creatures with pairs of red eyes flying in and out of the window were white-haired, red-eyed bats, which were also found in his home country, but not nearly as many as here. They probably fed on more than just mosquitoes, perhaps other small flying animals as well.

To Ye Qiu, those zombies were nothing, and these little bats even less so.

He continued his cultivation.

The next morning, at seven o’clock Paris time, there was a knock at the door, and Ye Qiu, who had wanted to continue his cultivation, could only open his eyes and get up to answer it.

Two young, beautiful maids he hadn’t seen the previous night stood outside the door; they must have taken over the shift from the two maids from last night.

"Dr. Ye, the butler Ivan asks that you take a bath, change your clothes, and then join Count Charley for breakfast,"

one young maid said.

The other two young maids had already told them that Ye Qiu could understand and speak French.

Ye Qiu nodded and then followed the two young maids to the bathroom.

It was the same bathroom as before; upon entering, Ye Qiu didn’t have to do anything, as the two young maids undressed him and began to fill the natural hot spring bath for him.

Ye Qiu sat comfortably while the two young maids washed him, but unlike the maids from yesterday, they did not whisper to each other, knowing that Ye Qiu understood French.

The girls would not dare to speak carelessly.

After bathing and coming out of the bathroom to put on a new set of clothes, Ye Qiu found that Zhou Wenting was already washed and waiting for him.

Zhou Wenting was groggy last night and had slept for only four or five hours; she still looked very tired and not very energetic.

Ye Qiu knew this the moment he saw her.

In general, when ordinary people arrive in an unfamiliar environment, on the first night, whether staying at a hotel or anywhere else, they might have trouble falling asleep.

That is unless they are extremely tired and fall asleep as soon as they lie down.

Last night, Zhou Wenting was frightened by those bats with white fur and red eyes and had nightmares all night. In her dreams, as they were only light sleep, she often woke up.

Zhou Wenting found that Ye Qiu looked very energetic, seemingly unaffected at all, which surprised her—she felt that Ye Qiu really wasn’t afraid of anything.

"What’s wrong? Didn’t sleep well?"

Ye Qiu looked at Zhou Wenting and asked.

"I saw some strange things last night."

"What kind of strange things?"

"Red eyes, lots of them—it looked like there were so many."

"And you study Western internal medicine. Those are just white-furred bats with red eyes. Isn’t that common? What’s there to be afraid of?"

In Ye Qiu’s view, the reason why the countryside had so many bats was mainly due to its vast, sparsely populated areas with fewer houses and more forests and groves, leading to more mosquitoes and insects.

The situation here in France, with its large castles, was somewhat similar, with only the occasional old castle followed by various estates. It was to be expected to have such small creatures.

Zhou Wenting thought about it and still felt that something wasn’t quite right.

However, when she saw the butler Ivan approaching, she didn’t say anything more.

"Doctor Ye, Miss Zhou, did you sleep well last night?"

The butler Ivan asked with a smile.

"It was all right!"

Zhou Wenting could only respond with a smile.

"Then please join me for morning tea with Count Charley. Viscountess Louise is waiting for you as well."

Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting followed Butler Ivan downstairs.

This castle did not have elevators installed, as putting them in could potentially ruin the structural integrity of the castle and undermine its aesthetic appeal.

However, although the castle was tall, the design of the staircases made them easy to walk down.

As they came downstairs, Ye Qiu noticed that during the day, the interior of the castle was not very bright, with only a trace of daylight shining through the holes, and many places inside were still lit with lamps and candles.

Upon arriving at the dining room on the first floor, Ye Qiu saw that this dining room was indeed lavishly and luxuriously decorated, with glittering gold everywhere. A chandelier several dozens of square meters large hung in the center, surrounded by proportionally smaller crystal chandeliers, many of which looked very golden, it was unclear if they were inlaid with gold.

The previous day, after Ye Qiu treated Count Charley and most of the foul qi in his body was absorbed, he had recovered enough to walk around, and his complexion no longer looked deathly pale but somewhat rosy instead.

Now, Count Charley, dressed in a black robe, was sitting at the long dining table with Viscountess Louise waiting for Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting to join them.

Upon seeing Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting, Count Charley took the initiative to greet them.

Ye Qiu did not speak French but let Zhou Wenting do the greetings instead.

When Ye Qiu sat down between Zhou Wenting and Louise, Butler Ivan called for the chef to bring over the prepared French breakfast.

Looking at the long table, Ye Qiu knew it could accommodate many dishes and seat many people at once. However, right now, only Ye Qiu, Zhou Wenting, Louise, and Count Charley were sitting there to eat.
