Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Don’t You Have Anything to Say to Me?

"Worried?" Qiao Rui raised her eyebrows. "Worried about what?"

Pei Liyan chuckled softly, without answering, instead, he reached out to lift her up and carried her inside. "Worried about the winds of change."

"Riddles again. If there’s anyone I admit defeat to, it’s you."

Qiao Rui’s delicate brows slightly arched, her silk pajamas tracing her graceful figure. Her long jet-black hair cascaded behind her, and as he picked her up, it draped downward, accentuating her beautifully radiant face.

She gave him a faint smile.

Pei Liyan only tugged at his lips lightly. "You should sleep, don’t think about anything, just sleep."

"Will you accompany me?" Qiao Rui countered.

Pei Liyan’s lips curved slightly, and for a fleeting moment, his formerly frosty and aloof face transformed into an expression of unparalleled charm, captivating and mesmerizing.

However, beneath it all seemed to lurk an enigmatic aura—a tempestuous, uncertain energy.

Clearly, it wasn’t the look of satisfaction; otherwise, his expression wouldn’t be this way.

"Do you want me to sleep with you?" Pei Liyan smiled as he retorted. "Aren’t you afraid I might do something?"

"If you wanted to do something, who could stop you?" Qiao Rui replied with double meaning.

"True enough." Pei Liyan glanced at Qiao Rui, his gaze inscrutable. "I’ve always been one to stop at nothing to get what I want."

Qiao Rui froze—not out of fright, but rather a growing headache.

Isn’t this relentless pursuit a little over the top?

She knew well that she had touched this man’s pride and dignity.

Now that things had come to this, the only choice was to steel herself and move forward.

As their eyes met, a unique light flickered in each of their gazes, with emotions and calculations swirling in their hearts.

"So, are you leaving or staying to catch up on some sleep?"

"Leaving," Pei Liyan replied. "Fang Mo was hit by Song Xun. The reason..."

At this point, Pei Liyan suddenly paused.

Qiao Rui’s heart skipped a beat, her gaze locking onto his eyes, waiting for him to continue.

"Forget it, you sleep," Pei Liyan said. "I’m heading to the hospital to check on Song Muyu."

"What happened to her?" Qiao Rui asked directly.

Her tone carried a hint of urgency.

Pei Liyan’s expression remained unreadable as he glanced at Qiao Rui. "She was accidentally hurt by Fang Mo. Heavy bleeding. Surgery yesterday. She’s still in the hospital today."

Qiao Rui’s heart tightened, her whole body stiffened, and her eyes flickered momentarily. "I won’t sleep. I’ll go with you."

"You’re coming too?" Pei Liyan raised an eyebrow.

Qiao Rui knew her request was unexpected, as, on the surface, she and Song Muyu had no connection.

But she quickly spoke up, "You think it’s strange for me to want to go, don’t you?"

"Since even you think so, what else is there for me to say?" Pei Liyan smiled faintly, his tone layered with meaning. "It is strange."

"What can I do? You, as a man, going to see a woman who’s had heavy bleeding seems a little inappropriate, don’t you think?" Qiao Rui retorted.

Pei Liyan hesitated, then nodded. "Put that way, it makes sense."

"Of course it does, I’m thinking about you," Qiao Rui said. "After all, your assistant injured someone. Even though I could completely ignore this mess, we’re married, and it’d look bad if I didn’t act responsibly."

"In that case, I should thank you for your sense of duty." Pei Liyan smirked teasingly as he gazed at Qiao Rui.

"No need for thanks. We’re married, aren’t we?" Qiao Rui replied cheerfully, quickly getting out of bed to head to the restroom and freshen up.

Pei Liyan watched her figure disappear through the bathroom door, a trace of light flickering in his eyes.

Very concerned about Song Muyu, isn’t she?

He chuckled quietly and, unusually playful, took out his phone and called Si Ran. "Tell Fang Mo to come with me to the hospital later to apologize to Song Muyu."

"Got it," Si Ran immediately replied. "I’ll inform him now."

Pei Liyan added, "Si Ran, you should come along too."

"Understood, President."

After hanging up, it wasn’t long before Qiao Rui emerged from the restroom.

She had changed into a white top with black lettering, paired with beige wide-leg pants. The top was tucked neatly into her pants, highlighting her slender waist. Her ankle-length trousers revealed delicate ankles, while her hairstyle—half tied, half loose—gave her an elegant yet capable look.

"Let’s go!" Qiao Rui said.

Pei Liyan looked her over with a nod, and the two left together.

Hospital.

Around seven in the morning, Song Muyu couldn’t sleep anymore. She got out of bed.

The moment her feet touched the ground, her vision darkened, and she nearly fell.

Out of reflex, she gripped the bed railing, steadying herself.

The blood loss from the previous day had left her teetering. After lying in bed all night, her head was heavy, her legs weak, and she felt utterly drained.

It took her a while to regain her footing.

"Miss Song, let me help you take a few steps," Jiang Jinfeng’s assigned caretaker said, offering assistance throughout the night.

Song Muyu nodded. Just as she took a few steps, there was a knock at the door.

Everyone turned their attention to the entrance, assuming it was a nurse. "Come in!" they called.

The door opened to reveal Mrs. Song standing there.

She held an insulated food container in her hand, stepping inside. Her gaze coldly swept over Song Muyu and the two others in the room without saying anything.

But the aura emanating from her was imposing.

"Mom, why are you here so early?" Song Muyu felt a foreboding sense of unease, as Mrs. Song’s piercing eyes sent a chill down her spine.

Even a glance made her heart tremble.

Mrs. Song glanced at her, appearing to suppress emotions, restraining herself repeatedly before saying to Song Muyu, "I made some soup to nourish your body. I left last night because I couldn’t handle it."

Song Muyu’s chest tightened, embarrassment and discomfort mingling, unsure how to face Mrs. Song.

Mrs. Song seemed to notice her unease and continued, "I couldn’t sleep last night, thinking it over. I decided to check on you early this morning because I wasn’t at ease."

Feeling awkward, Song Muyu quickly looked at the caretakers and said, "Why don’t you go have breakfast first?"

"Sure, Miss Song. If you need anything, give us a call, and we’ll come right back."

Knowing Mrs. Song was there, the caretakers realized Miss Song might need privacy and left without lingering, heading downstairs for breakfast.

Song Muyu said to Mrs. Song, "Mom, please take a seat. You must be tired after staying up all night."

Mrs. Song’s eyes flickered with complicated emotions.

A thousand unspoken words hovered, displeasure and reprimands bubbling up inside her.

After pausing to look deeply at Song Muyu, Mrs. Song finally moved to the sofa and sat down.

She placed the insulated food container on the coffee table with a "clank."

The sound echoed in the silent space, making Song Muyu’s heart tremble.

"Muyu," Mrs. Song said flatly, her sharp gaze meeting Song Muyu’s.

"Mom!" Song Muyu replied immediately.

"Sit down," Mrs. Song instructed.

Song Muyu paled, walking to the sofa and sitting across from Mrs. Song.

Mrs. Song studied her—her pallid complexion was far from healthy.

She looked entirely worn out, as though she had gone through a serious illness. There wasn’t a hint of vitality in her face, and even her eyes appeared dull and lifeless.

Seeing this, Mrs. Song frowned deeply—her displeasure and harsh criticism evident.

Yet all these emotions swirled in her eyes before being forcibly suppressed.

Song Muyu sat stiffly on the sofa, overly tense and awkward.

Her hands rested on her knees, their color drained, as though bloodless.

Even her fingers’ knuckles protruded sharply; she had clearly lost weight.

"Do you have nothing to say to me?" Mrs. Song asked, breaking the silence as she stared at Song Muyu’s bowed head.
