Chapter 311: Chapter 311: No Longer at Your Mercy

"Police?" Mrs. Song didn’t have time to lose her temper. She still wanted to maintain her composure in front of outsiders, so she immediately turned to the butler. "What’s going on? Explain clearly."

The butler said, "It’s the traffic police. They say the young master is suspected of dangerous driving and followed him all the way here."

"Dangerous driving?" Mrs. Song was stunned, completely unable to believe the butler’s words.

Just hearing the words ’dangerous driving’ made Mrs. Song’s face turn pale.

"That’s what the police said," the butler added. "I asked, and thankfully, there weren’t any irreversible consequences."

Mrs. Song finally exhaled slightly in relief.

If he had accidentally hit someone, it would probably become the scandal of the entire Liancheng.

The Song Family would then truly be finished, their reputation utterly ruined.

Song Xun had been driving far too fast earlier.

He sped all the way here, and although there was no accident, driving at such speeds in a busy downtown area was undoubtedly dangerous. He was pursued by five or six police officers all the way to the Song family estate.

Looking over at Song Xun, he didn’t seem to have any emotion about his reckless speed; his face remained cold as he looked at them.

On his face was the bright red imprint of the slap she had given him earlier.

Mrs. Song watched his indifferent demeanor, devoid of regret or fear, and trembled with anger. "How can you be so indifferent? Do you really want to kill someone, or perhaps get yourself seriously injured, before you’ll feel satisfied?"

Song Xun sneered and glanced at his mother, his gaze chillingly detached. "Right now, what difference is there between me and being dead?"

Mrs. Song staggered and collapsed onto the sofa.

Song Xun hesitated, stretching out his hand briefly, but ultimately stopped and did nothing.

"Madam!" The butler hurried forward.

"I’m fine." Mrs. Song steadied herself against the sofa and stood back up. "Bring the traffic officers in and serve them tea."

"Yes, ma’am!" The butler quickly went to make arrangements.

Soon, two traffic officers entered.

After fully understanding the situation, they criticized and educated Song Xun on the matter but didn’t formally detain him.

Of course, this was largely due to Mrs. Song’s intervention.

She couldn’t accept her son being taken away, so she continuously explained, even invoking the Shen Family and relying on old connections from the past.

Finally, the police officers left.

Song Xun sat on the sofa, showing no emotion, merely sitting there.

Mrs. Song looked at his demeanor, growing increasingly angry. "Look at you. Are you planning on completely giving up on yourself?"

"Of course not." Song Xun sneered.

He had many things to accomplish—how could he afford to give up?

But this raging fire within him—who could he take it out on?

Mrs. Song hesitated for a moment. Seeing that he could still speak, she felt slightly relieved.

She glanced at the butler. "You may leave now. Without my order, no one is allowed to interrupt us."

"Yes!" The butler promptly dismissed the servants.

Mrs. Song finally had the chance to reprimand her son. "Song Xun, what exactly were you thinking when you publicly admitted at the hospital that Muyu was pregnant?"

Song Xun said nothing.

Mrs. Song continued in anger, "Do you think our Song Family hasn’t lost enough face already? Your brother and sister made a mess of things, and yet you dare to admit it right in front of Jiang Jinfeng and Qi Yun?"

"If I hadn’t admitted it, weren’t you going to slander Muyu by pinning the blame on Jiang Jinfeng?" Song Xun said coldly.

"Do you think Muyu never had relations with Jiang Jinfeng?" Mrs. Song sneered.

Song Xun clenched his fists at his sides, restraining himself with great effort.

"Mom, control yourself. Don’t spew nonsense."

"I can’t control myself. Those two were hugging and cuddling, clearly intimate. Whether the child is yours or not is uncertain, so don’t be so wishful in your thinking."

"Is that so?" Song Xun curled his thin lips, his eyes filled with disdain as he looked at his mother’s face, feeling for the first time a profound sense of shame.

He felt mortified, regretful, and utterly unable to accept it.

"How could I have a mother like you?" Song Xun said, enunciating each word slowly. "My marriage was manipulated by you—not because I went along willingly, but because I thought if I complied, you might at least restrain yourself. I didn’t expect you to be so utterly unhinged, completely devoid of reason."

"What are you saying?" Mrs. Song’s lips quivered as she stared blankly at Song Xun.

Was this still her own son?

She looked at Song Xun as though he were a stranger. "You actually use such words to describe your mother."

"Those words are already exceedingly polite." Song Xun bellowed furiously, "If you keep pushing me, I’ll ruin the Song Family with my own hands and drag you down from your lofty pedestal."

Mrs. Song’s face turned ghostly pale.

"You—you ungrateful wretch."

"Yes! I’ve decided to be ungrateful." Song Xun showed no sign of backing down.

He stood up, his handsome face shaping into a chilling smile.

"Stop harassing Muyu. Don’t even think about targeting her again." Song Xun hissed coldly and then walked out.

Mrs. Song stared dumbfounded as he left, her eyes filled with shock.

He had actually threatened her.

All for Song Muyu—to threaten his own mother.

The son she had carried for ten months, the one she had endured countless hardships to give birth to, dared to treat her this way.

As Song Xun stepped outside, he ran into his father, Song Huaisan.

He had just gotten out of the car, returning after dealing with matters elsewhere.

Song Huaisan saw Song Xun coming out and frowned slightly. "Where are you going at this hour?"

"Out." Song Xun replied coldly with two words.

Song Huaisan paused, assuming his son’s attitude stemmed from his unwillingness to go along with the Shen Family alliance, and chose not to argue with him.

"Oh, I heard you’ve moved in with Shuyi. Hurry back; don’t keep her waiting too long."

Song Xun’s expression darkened even further.

He glanced at his father and suddenly asked, "Dad, regarding the crisis the Song Family encountered, where they wanted Muyu to marry into a wealthy family as well—did you have a hand in the decision?"

Song Huaisan froze. "Muyu marrying into a wealthy family? Was that arranged by your mother?"

"Clearly, you didn’t know about it." Song Xun calmed down slightly and seemed less resistant toward Song Huaisan.

Song Huaisan thought for a moment and said, "That wouldn’t be a bad idea. Where’s Muyu right now?"

Upon hearing his father’s words, Song Xun suddenly curled his lips in a mocking smile, leaving no room for face.

"Why don’t you and Mom get a divorce? Mom can marry some rich old man, and you can marry some wealthy old lady—it’d be an even better way to cement the Song Family’s standing."

Song Huaisan was stunned, enraged beyond belief. "You insolent brat! Is this how you speak to your elders?"

Song Huaisan knew full well that Song Xun harbored a strong distaste for arranged marriages. His agreement to the Shen Family alliance was already a significant concession.

Deep down, Song Huaisan cared for the Song Family and prioritized the family’s interests above all else.

But now, his son was acting like he had swallowed gunpowder, firing verbal shots left and right.

"What is wrong with you?" Song Huaisan demanded.

Song Xun said nothing and turned away to leave.

"Stop right there!" Song Huaisan shouted angrily. "Where are you going?"

"This house is suffocating," Song Xun replied coldly. "Having parents like you makes me feel deeply ashamed."

Song Huaisan trembled with rage at his son’s words. "Ungrateful child! If you keep spewing nonsense, I’ll enforce family discipline!"

"Ha!" Song Xun sneered. "The so-called family discipline—who exactly deserves to be subjected to it? Why don’t you ask the ancestors yourselves?"

With those parting words, Song Xun walked out.
