Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Rebirth
Song Xun’s gaze immediately shifted toward Song Muyu, who was being pushed out on the hospital bed.
She lay there, her figure so thin it was practically unrecognizable. In just one or two days, it felt as though the heavens had turned upside down, the seas had turned to mulberry fields; nothing resembled yesterday’s reality anymore.
Her face was so pale, she seemed like a paper-thin person.
Song Xun took one glance at her and instinctively turned his eyes away.
He didn’t dare look directly at Song Muyu.
Song Muyu lay in the hospital bed, pale from severe blood loss.
Groggily, she opened her eyes and saw Song Xun, Qi Yun, and Jiang Jinfeng.
But Mrs. Song was conspicuously absent.
She froze momentarily, and at the same time felt slightly relieved in her heart.
For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, at this moment, Mrs. Song was the last person she wanted to see.
Of course, Song Xun wasn’t someone she wanted to see either.
Guilt, perhaps? She didn’t want anyone to find out about her condition.
But why were their expressions so strange?
Qi Yun was the first to force a smile upon seeing her. "Miss Song, are you feeling any better?"
"Much better." Song Muyu nodded.
Jiang Jinfeng also looked at her and said, "Let’s move to the hospital room first. Qi Yun, let’s arrange a VIP suite for Muyu."
"Yes!" Qi Yun nodded and began coordinating with the nurse.
Song Xun stood there, finally turning his head again to meet Song Muyu’s gaze.
He stared at her, his eyebrows and expression growing increasingly dark and brooding.
Song Muyu saw him but didn’t avoid his eyes. Instead, she smiled faintly.
Her tone carried no bitterness; it was light and breezy as though greeting him casually.
"Brother, it’s late. You should go back and keep your wife company."
Song Xun froze on the spot.
Though Song Muyu spoke casually, her words sounded thick with sarcasm to Song Xun.
He stared at her, his gaze grey and lifeless.
Song Muyu continued to smile, her demeanor indifferent, as though she was letting everything go.
It wasn’t just about survival; it felt like a new beginning, a rebirth.
A rebirth where she emerged from the cocoon as a butterfly.
Song Xun froze there, suddenly realizing she was drifting further and further away from him.
Jiang Jinfeng took the cart from the nurse and, along with Qi Yun, began moving Song Muyu toward the hospital room.
Song Xun stood motionless, blocking their path.
Jiang Jinfeng’s face darkened, and he said sharply, "Move!"
It was only then that Song Xun snapped out of it and stepped out of the way.
Later, Song Muyu was transferred to the hospital room. Song Xun didn’t go in but leaned against the wall outside.
He lowered his head, staring at the tip of his shoes. No one knew what he was thinking. He stood there like a statue, unmoving, lingering for what seemed like an eternity.
Inside the VIP room, which was well-equipped with amenities like a lounge and a row of sofas, Jiang Jinfeng sat on one of the couches.
Song Muyu lay in the hospital bed.
She wondered why Mrs. Song had suddenly left and decided to ask Qi Yun.
"Qi Yun, where’s my mom?"
Qi Yun stiffened, forcing a smile. "Mrs. Song said there was something urgent, so she left first."
Song Muyu could tell there was something insincere about Qi Yun’s smile.
She knew Qi Yun was hiding something from her.
She turned to Jiang Jinfeng, hoping he might reveal the truth.
But he, too, seemed unwilling to talk about it. Clearly, something had happened during her emergency treatment.
And Song Xun’s appearance—the mystery of that still lingered.
Panic flashed across her eyes briefly before she recollected herself and asked Qi Yun and Jiang Jinfeng, "Does my condition mean that Song Xun and my mom already know?"
That would explain it—Mrs. Song must have found out about her unplanned pregnancy, her miscarriage, and the severe blood loss, reacting in fury and leaving before she was even out of surgery. That had to be it.
"Muyu, you should focus on recovering. Nothing else matters." Jiang Jinfeng knew her well; withholding the truth would only make her imagine the worst.
But telling her could also affect her emotions and recovery.
"Not telling me only confirms that they know about the miscarriage, doesn’t it?"
"It’s not something that can be hidden." Jiang Jinfeng admitted, "This is my fault. I failed to protect you and let Fang Mo hurt you."
"How could it be your fault?" Song Muyu offered a bitter smile. "To be honest, this is entirely my own fault—my body is far too fragile."
"Miss Song, I’m also partly to blame tonight. If only we hadn’t left Liu Garden..."
"No, it’s still because of me." Song Muyu shook her head. "I insisted on returning to the Song Family, curious about why my mom wanted me back."
Qi Yun and Jiang Jinfeng both fell silent, saying nothing.
Song Muyu continued, "You’re right. My mother wanted me back so she could set me up with a wealthy suitor—to make me contribute to the Song Family by marrying into one of her chosen aristocratic families."
"Unbelievable!" Jiang Jinfeng’s expression darkened. "She really dared to plan something like that?"
What initially seemed like speculation turned out to be true.
Muyu had barely been inside the Song Family home for mere minutes before being propositioned; the urgency of Mrs. Song was unfathomable.
The two of them were speechless, their disdain for Mrs. Song palpable. A mother like her was hard to sympathize with.
She probably didn’t love Muyu. If she did, she wouldn’t have left her, no matter how angry she was.
No matter the fury or outrage, abandoning her daughter at such a critical moment was unjustifiable.
Song Muyu smiled in self-mockery. "Yes, that’s exactly how it was. She wanted to arrange a political marriage for me."
"Miss Song, don’t dwell on it too much. Just rest for now." Qi Yun worried that prolonged conversation would affect her recovery.
Song Muyu said, "Qi Yun, be honest. My mom left because she found out about my miscarriage, didn’t she?"
Qi Yun instinctively glanced at Jiang Jinfeng.
Jiang Jinfeng finally said, "Yes, Qi Yun, that’s exactly what happened."
"And Song Xun knows too?" Song Muyu looked at him.
Jiang Jinfeng nodded.
Song Muyu’s heart tightened briefly, then she let it go.
Fine. They knew. It was bound to come out eventually.
She had originally intended to bury the truth forever, to ensure no one would ever know.
But reality had other plans.
She smiled faintly, though her smile was paler than ever.
It was a sight that made others avoid looking at her directly.
"Fine, it’s better this way. I hope they’ll never bother me again. I don’t want my past entanglements with him to weigh on his relationship with Miss Shen."
"Why should you care about him?" Jiang Jinfeng’s gaze narrowed, his heart aching for her. "He was the one who abandoned you, starting something he had no intention of finishing, yet you’re still worried for his sake?"
"I don’t care about him," Song Muyu replied. "I just owe the Song Family something."
At that moment, Song Xun stood at the door, his face marked by deep pain.
He leaned against the doorframe, his eyes narrowing abruptly before he turned and walked away.
At the door, he ran into Fang Mo.
Without a word, he began beating Fang Mo viciously.
Fang Mo, knowing he was at fault and aware of Song Xun’s connection to the family head, didn’t fight back. He endured the beating, ending up black and blue, before Song Xun finally kicked him and stormed off.
Driving back, Song Xun’s car roared down the roads at dangerous speeds.
He arrived at the Song Family home.
Mrs. Song saw him entering and rushed up to him, delivering two hard slaps across his face.
Song Xun merely stared at his mother and said, word by word, "You want to set Muyu up with a wealthy family, to make her another sacrificial pawn for the Song Family?"
"And what if I do?"
"Wasn’t it enough that I was one?!" Song Xun roared.
"It wasn’t enough!" Mrs. Song shouted in fury.
The family steward ran in. "Madam, something’s wrong. Five or six police officers are here—they’re here to arrest the young master."
