Chapter 77: FACING THE MUSIC

"You better explain yourself Hunter, how is it that Rex is alive" I leaned back on the chair, anger rising in my blood.

"No need to explain, Alpha. This is not Rex. He was dead by the time we threw him into the river. We broke his hands and legs and there is no fucking way he could recover this fast." Hunter responded, but there was a slight tremble in his voice.

I grabbed his phone and then watched the video clip. The man did look like Rex. But it was impossible since he had no bruises on his face or hands.

"To give you the benefit of the doubt, I also think this is not Rex. Unless some magic happened and all his bruises were healed, I would urge him to go to the airport and get all the details about his flight and where he was going"

Hunter stood up and said, "Yes Alpha". And in seconds, he was out of the diner as I cursed inwardly. I doubted Hunter could be sloppy and had always excelled in everything he did.

My appetite was long gone and as I left the diner, I drove to the pier for some air. Getting out of the car, I instructed the guards to stay behind as I walked along the wooden pier, feeling the sound of my feet hitting the wood as a welcoming comfort to the quiet night.

The wind picked up as the waves rose and crushed the rocks below.

"What have you worried? "Aria, my wolf pushed the words through.

"If Rex is alive, someone found him and it means they know what I did. "I responded.

"That is the least of your worries, Lobo. What is bothering you?" Aria pressed on.

"I wonder what kind of magic was used to heal Rex, "I chuckled. "If we can have that kind of power, we would be unstoppable. "

"I like your train of thought. "Aria stated.

"I have two suspects. One is someone from the KODA council and the other is Conri Dolf. "

"I would go with the latter. Dolf is a wonderful wolf and can control the Adora crystal. You were too hasty last time, and you ruined the plan. Just because the crystal glowed at him was no reason to act rashly," Aria snapped at me.

"I know. I regret it. We have wasted so many years, " I huffed, and hot air blew out of my mouth.

"Lucian is a threat that will need to be taken out. " Aria raised his concerns.

"He is a thorn in our backsides," I responded.

"What if they mate?" Aria demanded.

"Impossible. " I chuckled and brushed the thought off, knowing well that there could be a possibility.

"Nevertheless. We need to watch out for him. His wolf is powerful and a Freki. If they mate, we shall not be able to get the powers from Dolf," Ara stated.

I nodded and walked back to the car. The guards took me home, and I had a drink before turning to bed. I tossed and turned, and sleep eluded me. Aria decided we should go for a run and took to the woods. The fog picked up, offering much-needed cover as I approached the Freki lands and stood by watching the Freki Mansion.

To think that Conri was in bed with Lucian made me angry. But not as angry as to how Keith Isla showed interest in Conri. Desperation had made me send Rex and Duciana to Lucian to see if he would barge, but that old geezer Zaya just had to interfere and rush the wedding. It seems that Benjamin, Isla, and Luna are also against me.

"Better keep a distance. The last time Lucian sensed our presence, " Aria stated as he turned around and we left the Freki lands. By the time we got home, I was tired as I shifted, got into bed and sleep took over as I closed my eyes.

I had overslept as I woke up and realized that it was already ten am. Rushing to shower and dress, I skipped the breakfast the maid had prepared and left my house. By the time I arrived in the office, Hunter was pacing up and down by the door.

"You will wear the floor out, you bastard! " I cursed at him and he stopped in shock. From the look on his face, I knew that he had bad news for me.

"Just spit it out, "I cursed while he opened the office door for me and after I walked in, he followed suit.

"The man who left Alaska had a different name, Moris Zek, but the airport staff swore that it was Rex. A flight attendant who knew him called him by the name and he stiffened but recovered quickly. He denies he was Rex and humbly got into the plane"

"What do your instincts tell you?" I raised an eyebrow at Hunter.

"That was Rex," Hunter confessed.

I moved without hesitation and smacked his face. He fell on the ground as his lip busted and blood oozed out of it. He immediately got to his feet and then wiped his lip. "Alpha, I suspect that Conri had something to do with Rex. Whatever is in the woods must have helped Rex. That means that it had healing powers. "

"I thought so too," I seethed.

"I have organized the secret enforcers. We are going up the mountains tonight. We shall hunt and capture the creature. I will approach the river in Mount Chugach by the mines. That is where we had dumped Rex. I will not fail you this time, Alpha, "Hunter asserted.

"I will hold you to it. If you fail me, Hunter, I will show you no mercy," I growled at him.

He nodded and left my office with a determined look.

I picked up the phone and called Lyal. " You better come to my office. We have a problem on our hands"

"Right away, brother. "He disconnected the call.

"Fuckin shit!! "I cursed out in anger.
