Chapter 280: THE COLD NORTHEN BORDER

BENJAMIN’S POV

" For a woman your age, you seem to be stronger than an ox" I huffed after we arrived at the Northern border. We drove and then trekked up the mountain and got to the border point.

" Spare me your insults Benjamin " Aurora snapped at me.

We stood at the Cold northern border and the wind picked up and the snow came in furiously.

" How do the people on the border survive? I could not adjust to this weather" I complained.

" They have fur coats and warm houses, " Aurora observed.

We watched as Enforcer guards rushed over to greet me and I introduced Aurora Storm to them. They all stared at her in wonder as she walked into the border camp majestically and headed to the General’s quarters.

" Do you even know where you are going? " I demanded.

" Of Course. I am following the signs and observing the protocols. I am not blind Benjamin" She snapped.

" Women are not allowed in the Northern border " I heard a voice behind us.

We turned around and came face to face with what I assumed was the border general.

" Identify yourself " I crossed my arms.

" I am General Joel Thunder. The General Enforcer in charge of the Northern border" He boomed.

" And pray to tell why women are not allowed in here" I demanded while I watched the way Aurora held back waiting for his answer.

" How could they survive?" He snickered.

I felt my wolf pushing out as I howled, causing the camo area to shake and the rest of the enforcer stepped back cowardly. It was a sound of anger and rage. The General stepped back in anger and from the way he reacted, he knew that I was a superior wolf.

" General Thunder, I am Benjamin Gold from the KODA council. This is Aurora Storm, a member of the same council and woman at that fact" I announced.

He blinked twice and then whispered " What brings you to the Northern border"

" Escort us to your office general. We have much to discuss in private "Aurora commanded him and he seemed annoyed at that.

But the look that Benjamin gave him, made him agree and walked in a huff to the tented central camp that was his office. Once inside we sat down across his chair and he tapped the arm to show his impatience.

" Alpha Conri sent us to the border to patrol for any intruders. There is an imminent attack and he wants to make sure the border is tightly sealed.

" What ?" He growled and stood up in shock. " Are you sure?"

"Does it look like we joking with you ?" Aurora stood up and her eyes turned blue.

" What the fuck ?" General pointed at Aurora’s eyes.

" As a woman, I doubt that your wolf is superior to mine" She snickered at him. " Sit your ass down, General. "

General Thunder could only comply and Aurora majestically sat down.

" You are scary at times," I muttered.

" I have always been scared," she responded. " I have a few questions for your general. Have you ever spotted a black wolf around this area? "

" Black wolf? No. Most of the shifter wolves in this border are brown and gray " General Thunder reported.

" What about rogue mangy wolves have you ever spotted on the border?" I asked.

" Yes. How do you know? " General looked surprised.

" How many ?" Aurora pressed on.

" I would say about four in the past month. I have no idea where they came from but the enforcers have been tracking them and it’s been fruitless" He informed us.

" Shit " I cursed and then asked " What was the scent coming out of the mangy wolves? Did any of them kill?"

" Pearl’s scent. I have no idea why but it reminded me of the scent of my mother’s pearls. " He explained.

" Can you take us where you find the mangy wolves?" Aurora stood up.

" Sure. But can you tell me what is happening ?" He demanded.

" Someone has been breeding mangy wolves and is planning on attacking the golden shifter pack. The intel we have is that the attack will come from the Northern border hence Alpha Conri sent us here to gather intel and report back to him. Hence we don’t have time and need to find the evidence as fast as possible" I informed him.

His eyes widened and then he paced up and down before letting on. " Come to think of it, one enforcer reported that he saw lots of movement near the border mountains. But two days later, the enforcer disappeared. We are still searching for him"

" Come on. Let us go " Aurora walked out of the General’s tent and we followed her she turned to say " Lead the way"

General Thunder took us up deep into the mountains and then Aurora stopped short.

" Do you smell that?" She asked as she raised her nose in the air.

" Yes. It’s coming from underneath the snow " I nodded.

" They are actually under the mountain?" Aurora seethed.

" That is why we could not find them, " General Thunder growled.

" They have been right under your nose, " I muttered.

" Fucking bastards"

" We need to head back to the Golden shifter pack and report. We better not alert them and prepare a sneak attack before they make their move." Aurora pointed out.

We trekked down the mountain and got back to the camp close to midnight.

" It’s dangerous for you to travel in this snowstorm" General advised. " I will prepare a palace for the two of you to rest. The enforcer kitchen will also prepare later dinner for you."

" Thank you General Thunder" I nodded at him.

He walked out of the General’s tent and ten minutes later came back with enforcers who escorted us to the rented houses. I took a shower, sat down, and gulped down the meal that was placed on the table. Once done, I sipped the wine they had prepared and was surprised at how good and warm it was. The cold picked up and I slid in the warm blankets and closed my eyes to sleep.

Early the next day, we left the cold Northern border and drove back to Chugach.

"You seem to be deep in thought " I made conversation with Aurora

" It’s because I think that Aria had prepared this. Not Lobo. Simon must have worked with Aria as a backup plan in case Lobo failed. That is why he never wanted anyone to access the farm and experimented with Cinnabar and Pearls and his success came when he combined the two." Aurora stated.

" Is this bad?" I asked.

" More than bad. You see he harnessed the power of the mountains and the sea. " Aurora growled. ’’ Simon will be a menace and a formidable opponent. And if he gets to Lobo and they all agree, we shall be doomed" Aurora stated.

" You have less faith in Conri and Tizheruk" I chuckled.

" Maybe. I know that they are immortal and death is not on their list. But still, the vision came to light and Tizheruk confirmed it. " Aurora whispered.

" I know that you are worried. But Conri is the king of wolves. He needs to find a way to command the wolves and prevent the attack. And you will help him" I pointed at her.

" Tsk" She snickered but nodded in return. " I know that we all started on the wrong footing. I had been away from Chugach laced with bitterness. But the fact that Conri accepted us and my son Lovita, I have no option but to help him. I now have a home and family and will not take it for granted. "

" We know. We only want peace in Chugach. Luna is expectant and will be due in three months. We have to put our best foot forward. " I nodded.

" I met Lobo Aria. I was in Tochigi last week " She announced I swerved on the road and then pulled the car back and drove for a distance before responding to her " What do you mean?"

" I went to Tochigi to meet Lobo. I threatened him and left. " She raised her chin defiantly.

" What? Did he say"?" I kept my eyes on the road.

" What could he say? I know he is not the same as before. Having Sayuri next to him has softened him up. Hence I regret that we let Simon leave Alaska. He will be a big influence to Lobo and we have no idea what will be the repercussions."

" Fucking shit " I cursed as my phone rang. I picked it up without checking the caller ID and it was Luna on the other end of the line. " Benjamin’’ She growled over the phone.

" Sorry love. We were out of signal for a while. But I am headed back to Chugach. Are you okay? Is something the matter?" " I asked.

"No. I just wanted to check-in. Drive safely" She disconnected the call.

" You better step on it," Aurora laughed.

" Yeah. The woman beside Lobo, do you have information about her?" I asked.

" Yes. She is the one who rescued Zineb from jail. She is now Lobo’s love and a member of the Yakuza council. When I was in Tochigi I discovered that the seer who sneaked into the pearl farm was her uncle. Hence she is one bitter woman who will never show us mercy "

" May the moon gods help us" I cursed.
