Chapter 25: UPROAR
"Will you take responsibility? Lucian is like a son to me. Anything that affects him will also affect my son, "Luna Elijah spoke up.
"You are all pushing me to a corner. Do you realize you will draw attention to him just like how Lupe was? Being with me is what caused her death," I whispered in pain.
"Lucian Freki is not a weak wolf," Benjamin banged the table.
"We are also aware of the creature you have hidden on the mountain. ’’ Ralph Isla chuckled.
"I do not know what you are talking about, "I lied.
"Yet Lucian could get in and out. Something no pack member has done for fifteen years. "Luna Elijah smiled.
"He had no intention of harming me, "I snapped.
"There you go," Godmother beamed.
"What is the backup plan?" I demanded.
Benjamin beamed and patted my back. "The Contract Marriage"
"What?" My eyes widened.
"You marry Lucian Freki in a three-year contract during which the resort project will run," Benjamin affirmed.
"He will never agree," I dismissed Benjamin.
"He will, "Godmother’s eyes twinkled.
"Alpha Lobo will reject this eyed idea," Luna Elija urged.
"We need four votes to get it done," Raph Isla smirked.
"We shall nail it, "Benjamin boomed.
"Godmother, please. This is too risky," I stated
"Living alone in the woods has been risky. I know you have been protecting yourself all these years, but Lucian Freki surprised me. Lucian is more than enough to challenge Alpha Lobo in public, and he is our safest bet. He has money and power, but most of all, he has no evil bone in his body," Godmother praised Lucian.
I sat there staring at them and feeling the ray of hope coming to light.
"I have another suggestion," Luna Elija added.
They all nodded at her.
"The Freki land is so vast and surrounded by trees. The best way to get Conri off the mountains is to have him living in the Freki mansion. The best part of this is that the Freki mansion is within the land in the mountains, offering a path for him to make it to the resort and back without going against the KODA rules. "
Godmother teared up and hugged Luna Elijah.
"That is such a wonderful idea," she spoke through sobs that were wrecking her body.
"Are you sure the plan would work?" Ralph Isla spoke up with light shining in his eyes.
"Yes. I spent two weeks at the Ministry of Lands and the city council. I also reviewed the pack rules and the legality of his stay at the Freki mansion. All is clear" "
"Thank you so much Luna" Benjamin winked at her and she blushed.
"Stop it" She looked away.
"What about the bank accounts that belonged to Conri plus his parent’s lands and properties? Are they still frozen?" Raph Isla demanded.
"A marriage contract on legal terms will unfreeze all these. Lucian will access all the wealth that Conri owns," Luna Elijah explained.
I stood up from my chair and felt my chest constrict in pain and out of breath. I walked to the back of the pub and hid in the dimly lit corner. The sound that came out of my chest was more of a roar than a sob. All these years, I had closed myself off from feeling anything. I felt the tears that threatened to spill, and Dolf paced up and down in anger.
"We need to take back what they took away from us and punish them, " Dolf growled through our mind link.
"I knew I would find you here. "Benjamin’s voice reached my ears.
I wiped the tears with my sleeve jacket and looked away.
"I am glad that I get to witness your human side. " He chuckled.
"No idea what you mean, old man. "
"Conri, no more hiding in the woods. These bastards need to pay for your exile," Benjamin growled.
"Did I complain?" I demanded, sounding angry.
"No. But you should know your godmother Zaya is not well. She holds a tough face, but her health has been deteriorating slowly. How will you help up if you are stuck in the goddamn mountains?"
"Fuck!!" I growled.
"You can growl all you want, but the ball is now rolling. You need to be prepared for the engagement and marriage ceremony." Benjamin scolded.
"How long has Godmother been sick? She hides it well," I whispered sadly.
"Last three years and it slowed her down," Benjamin explained. " You need to put in all the effort and make it work. Three years is a good time for us to investigate the death of Lupe. Plus, it will give us time to push out Alpha Lobo from the Golden pack."
"Benjamin!!!" I muttered through gritted teeth.
"You know that you were the one who was meant to be the Alpha of the Golden pack. But that fucking bastard plotted against you. You need to be prepared. What are you afraid of?"
I kept mute. I never wanted to respond to Benjamin’s question at all. My biggest fear was Lucian Freki. I left old man Benjamin’s pub late at night and shifted immediately after I got into the woods.
"Why are you hesitant? " Dolf seethed.
"He will get hurt. I know it, " I responded.
"We shall protect him," Dolf affirmed.
"It’s safer to stay in the woods than a treacherous pack.
"I can smell the winds of change. The woods will not be our home forever, "Dolf emphasized.
He then slowed down and stood listening in.
"We are being followed, "He stated.
"How many?" I demanded.
"Just one. Female wolf. Smells like a due wolf. "
I shifted back and stood in waiting, hoping that the Tizheruk was far away. A minute later, Eliane Due, Lupe’s mother appeared as she slowly walked towards me. Her eyes were blazing with anger.
"How long has it been, you killer rogue? "She spat.
I remained mute as she stood a few meters away. I could sense her aggressive nature and Dolf growled. "I heard that those old geezers have a plan to get you out of the mountains. But as long as I am alive, I will never let you be happy."
I stood my ground, waiting for her to attack. The loud movement in the trees informed me that the Tizheruk had arrived. She stared at the trees in a panic and then looked at me in shock.
I raised one eyebrow at her and said, "You better run"
She staggered back and I could see her eyes were wild with fear. "What the hell is that?" I turned around to leave and then I heard her plead, "Spare me. I just wanted to talk."
"Take my advice and run before it gets to you," I stated without looking back and continued walking into the fog. Ten minutes later, I arrived at the cabin and Dolf was restless.
"What is it ?"
"It wasn’t a good idea to let her go. You should have let Tizheruk do his work"
"No. It would have been worse if it attacked her. They would blame. Tomorrow is an important day. Better lie low and see the outcome," I emphasized.
