Chapter 102: NEWS FROM JAPAN

HUNTER’S POV

I leaned back on the tree and pretended to be asleep as the enforcers who had been sent by Lobo arrived. I opened one eye and demanded, "Why are you following me?"

"Alpha was worried that you had a tail," they said as they looked around the campfire.

"Tail? I already scented you coming, no one can tail me. " I stood up and said " Go back to Alpha Lobo and report what you found," I said arrogantly and left the campsite straight for the Chugach prison. I arrived at the caves by midday and found the guards who were on duty more alert than ever. I knew that Lobo Aria was paranoid and the way I spoke to him yesterday, he must have suspected that I was angry at him.

The truth was that Lyal was a screwed-up being and his ideas to Lobo Aria were in the extremities. Letting Duciana die was a mistake, and I was taken back to the day Lupe died. They had made the same plan because they wanted to suppress Conri Dolf, but he had eluded them for the second time.

I was left to clean up the mess of Duciana and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially now that Tala came to me and acknowledged that we were mates. Holding her in my arms had been heavenly.

Kissing Tala has been euphoric. I was lost in the sea of passion, need, and comfort and when she broke down into sobs, Hemming my wolf swore he would go against anyone who made her cry. A vow that he meant to keep.

I watched Tala fall asleep and breathed in her scent. Before the enforcers arrived, I used my Alpha powers to cover her scent around the campfire. Lobo Aria was no fool, and he must have discovered that Tala was my mate.

I panicked as she left the campsite and then used my power wolf power to follow her scent until she got out of the woods. Once I knew she was safe, I dragged myself into the mountain caves and shifted, remaining to hide for the night as my wolf recovered from the exhaustion of power.

I went for the morning run, letting Hemming’s power be restored, and then took a cold dip in Mount Chugach River before walking back to the jail. Along the way, I met an old guard who froze the minute he saw me.

"At ease guard, why do you look scared? " I demanded

"Hunter, there is something I saw and have been meaning to tell you, but you must promise me that you will not tell a soul"

"Spit it out, "I huffed in frustration.

"Promise me. " The guard remained adamant.

"I promise, "I conceded and promised

He nodded and beckoned me to follow him to the waterfall next to the river and I knew he wanted to make sure no one could hear us.

"Okay. Now that we are here. What is it ?"

"Do you know the myth of the Tizheruk? The serpent that lives in the sea and disappeared in Mount Chugach?"

"What about it?" I asked.

"Well, I saw it and it has a human form, " The guard informed me.

"What are you talking about ?"

"Blonde hair, broad shoulders, handsome face, green eyes. I saw it with my own eyes, "The guard narrated.

"What?" I yelled. The guard had just described Conri Dolf’s cousin whom I met at the mansion.

"Are you sure?" I demanded.

"Yes. "He nodded.

"Dont ever breathe this word to anyone. I am saying this because if people discover what you know, you will be dead in less than twenty-four hours," I warned him.

"I dare not" He agreed.

I turned to leave and then he said, "But what I don’t understand is that this man had a wolf tattoo on his back"

"Fuck" I cursed and rubbed my face in frustration. If Lobo knew this, he would flip a hundred times.

"Like I said, you don’t need to understand or know. Just keep your mouth shut, old guard. Act dumb like you always have, "I advised.

"Why is an Alpha like you working for Lobo?" The guard pressed on.

"How much information is in that old head of yours? " I chuckled.

"Much more than you know. That is why am choosing to speak to you" He shrugged his shoulders and grinned. "Change is coming and I bet Alpha Lobo will not like it"

"What do you mean by that?" I whispered, knowing well that he was right.

"I have seen a lot in my life and know the myths. The power of the Adora crystal is no longer with the guardians. I heard the rumbling of the guards saying that Ralph Isla got drunk and spilled all the secrets. That Conri Dolf has now the power of the Adora. He is the true Alpha of the Golden Shifter pack. "

"Shut your mouth, " I growled at the guard, but he seemed unfazed by it all.

"Being mated to a Freki wolf makes it even better. Hunter, choose wisely" The guard laughed as he left the waterfall and walked away whistling. I sat down with a huff and growled to myself.

"Fuck, "I whispered as I remembered how much information Conri’s cousin had. Alpha Lobo tried to read him and was unable to. And why did he have a wolf tattoo on his back?

I stood up and walked to the jail, and the guards greeted me the minute they spotted me. I had planned to spend a week in Mount Chugach, but it seems I would cut my visit short.

"How is everything going on? " I asked one of the guards.

"Lyal is still in his jail cell. "The guard spoke.

I nodded and walked to the jail that held Lyal’s decoy, and the guard opened the door as I walked in and found him asleep. I looked around the jail cell for anything out of the ordinary and then walked out when I was sure that all was okay.

A week passed by so fast and after ensuring we did not have any intruders in the Chugach jail, I left the mountains and trekked back to the city. I arrived later afternoon and went home for a shower and a change of clothes. After, I walked to the Golden shifter pack office and sat down to review all the cases that had been lined up since I left.

The door of the office opened and Alpha Lobo walked in. I stood up in greetings. "Alpha, have you been keeping well? "

"When did you arrive? " His tone was accusatory.

"Just a few minutes ago. All is well in the mountains. " I reported.

"Come with me, "He commanded, and I nodded and followed him to his office.

Once the door closed, Lobo Aria walked to his chair and sat down. He beckoned me to sit, and I just obeyed like a puppet and sat down without complaints.

"Lyal has not called in a week. Did he contact you ?’

"No," I responded. " He was to lie low until you gave him the go-ahead to contact the Yakuza. " I knew that Lobo was testing, and I was not going to allow him to get the better of me.

He nodded and then said, " I have been meaning to ask, do you plan on settling down and finding a mate ?"

"No. Enforcers don’t have that luxury," I chuckled cynically.

"The rumors within the enforcers say that you have always liked Tala Elijah, " Lobo went directly to the point.

"That is true. " I nodded at Lobo. "But she has never looked at me twice. She hates me and has made it clear to everyone. Why are you asking me this now?" I threw the question to him.

"I could feel your displeasure when we were at the Freki mansion and then when you walked into the office as I was having a meeting with Boris and Ralph"

" I was not displeased. I was just being cautious. "I explained myself.

"About what?" Lobo’s eyes bore at me.

"Ralph is a loose cannon. He drinks and spills information on the pack members. They already know that Conri has the power of the Adora crystal, " I informed Lobo. I needed to give me the news that would take him off Tala’s business.

"What ?"

"And now the pack is murmuring that there is a wind of change. We need to be careful when dealing with Isla or they shall foil our plans, "I asserted.

Lobo was still cursing when his phone buzzed and he answered without checking the caller ID. " What?" he growled on the phone

"Lobo, we have a problem. It seems Elder Zaya contacted the Yakuza. They no longer want to deal with us because of Elder Zaya," I heard Lyal speak at the other end of the phone.

The growl that emitted from Lobo shook the office as he threw the phone on the wall and it shattered on the floor his eyes blazed red and he whispered "Fucking old geezer"
