"Calm down Alpha "I stood up and walked over to collect the pieces of the broken cell phone.

My phone buzzed, and I knew it was Lyal calling hence picked up the call without checking the caller ID.

"Lyal," I connected the call and put the phone on speaker

"Hunter, I am coming back to Alaska. It’s not safe for me to be here. " He said while I felt his teeth chatter over the phone.

"If you contacted the Yakuza, it means that Elder Zaya might be informed of your whereabouts. I suggest you go to Canada and lie low. I will organize the money and tickets for you "I advised.

"I want to come home, "Lyal complained.

"No. "Lobo yelled.

"Brother, I need to come home, "Lyal insisted

"You already made a mess with Duciana. How could you release the Mangy wolves on her?" Lobo growled.

"She was a loose end that we needed to end," Lyal snapped back." It would not have done you any good if she were alive. And I suggest you get rid of Ralph Isla. He runs his mouth when he is drunk. "

"So I heard. " Lobo’s eyes blazed as he growled.

"And Keith Isla. He has a plan. I suspect that he will soon make a move on Conri Dolf. " Lyal chuckled.

"Shut up "Lobo responded.

"What about Levy Isla? " I spoke up to distract them.

"He will meet his death soon, "Lyal growled.

"Why?" I raised an eyebrow, and Lobo shook his head in an indication that I should not proceed with the conversation.

"I shall call you later. " Lobo walked over and disconnected the call before Lyal could say anything.

"What is going on? "I put the phone in my pocket and placed the pieces of Lobo’s phone on the desk.

"It seems that Lyal has feelings for Everest " Lobo groaned

"What?" I gasped in shock. That was news that I never expected.

"Exactly" Lobo walked back to his chair and sat down with a thud. " We have major problems with Lyal’s love life. Elder Zaya intercepted us and this means that Lucian and Conri must know that I am going after the Tabular Crystal"

I nodded and then sat down. " We need to get to the Yazuza secretly or find someone else to contact them on our behalf.

Lobo’s eyes sparkled, and he said," I will send Zineb to the Yakuza. Instruct Boris not to recall her back as yet. I know she will be able to negotiate better than Lyal. "

"Yes Alpha "I stood up to leave and then said, "I will ask the pack secretary to get you a new phone. "

"Thank you, Hunter" Lobo nodded, and I knew he was distracted as I left the office.

Back at my desk, I sat down and got busy, counting the minutes as I planned how I would get to Tala.

"Hunter, you called for me. " The pack secretary arrived and asked.

"Yes. Please get Alpha a new phone, "I informed her. She nodded and then left my office.

I leaned back on the desk and wondered if the enforcer I had assigned to keep an eye on Tala could give me intel. I texted him that we should meet in the pack restrooms and stood up and strolled to the end of the corridor where the restrooms were.

I walked over and closed the door and he appeared from the end of the stall, signaling me that I should walk over. Tilting my head, I indicated we should stand by the sink and pretended to wash my hands.

"What do you have for me ?" I whispered.

"Lobo sent enforcers to the apartment she had moved to. Benjamin and Luna found them and since then she moved to the end of the pier mansions that Benjamin lives in. "He reported.

"How is the security at the mansions?" I asked.

"Not tight. She usually goes to walk by the sea at around ten pm, " The enforcer said as he walked out of the restroom.

I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that Tala was being protected by Benjamin and Luna. I could tell that some of the frustrations that Ralph Isla had were all connected to Luna Elijah being mated to Benjamin. I left the washroom and went back to my desk. Close to ten pm, I left the office after searching on the homeownership database as to which house belonged to Benjamin and headed straight to the pier. I knew that Lobo would have someone follow me. Hence I hung around the pub that was hidden at the corner pretending to drink.

Once the tail relaxed, I slipped and disappeared from the pier and walked towards the mansions, staying hidden and using my Alpha sent to mask myself. I arrived by the beach and counted the houses until I got the other that was registered under Benjamin leaned by the rocks and waited.

It did not take long for Tala to come out and she walked barefoot towards the beach. I watched her from a distance and then she turned around towards where I was hidden and matched straight for the rock. Once she spotted me, she stilled and a large smile filled her face. I raised my hand to tell her indicate that she should not approach and displeasure filled her face, but she nodded and then walked back to the water.

I stood enjoying the night view as I watched Tala’s back. Her hair fell on her shoulders and she looked peaceful as she stared into the ocean. After a while, she turned to go back to the mansion and never took a glance at me. I knew she must have realized that I had a tail. I made my way back to the pub at the pier and dumped myself on the corner as I ordered more whiskey to drown myself in the sorry I was feeling.

The buzzing on my phone interrupted my thoughts, and the caller ID was the pack’s office.

"This is Hunter" I answered the phone.

"Hunter, where are you?" Lobo Aria’s voice came through the phone.

"At the pier. In the pub at the corner. Do you need me, Alpha?" I responded.

"Have you contacted Tala since you came back?" He threw the question at me.

"I haven’t Alpha, "I answered him.

"Mmmh, and has she contacted you?" Lobo asked.

"No" I responded. "And I hope she does not, "I added.

"I hope you will not fail me, Hunter," Lobo growled.

"Alpha, where has all this mistrust come from? I have been loyal and submissive to you all my life. "I slurred the words to pretend that I was drunk. "What did I do to make you think this way ?"

"I was just being cautious," Lobo Aria responded, but I could feel the awkwardness of his response. I had managed to make him feel guilty.

"No need. I would never betray you. "I added.

"Enjoy your drink, "He groaned and disconnected the call.

I knew that the person watching me had reported to him at the pack office. I spent half an hour slowly sipping my whiskey before getting in my car and I drove home. The wolves that I bred sensed my presence the minute I drove into the driveway of my house. I alighted from the car and walked over to the cage to pet them. My maid, Elonar rushed out of the house and bowed. "Master, you are back. I was out on the market when you came in early in the day."

"How are you, Elonar?" I made a conversation.

"Good. The wolves miss you, "She responded.

"Did anyone come looking for me?" I asked.

"No. But it seems the wolves get restless, everyone close to midnight. Something seems to spook them off since you left but when I come out, I never saw anything, " She narrated.

"What about scent? " I turned to ask her

She shook her head, deep in thought, then said, "Nothing out of the ordinary. It seems whatever spooked them was at a distance or it was just an animal. " Elonar pointed out.

At that instant, my stomach growled, making Elonar laugh. " I prepared your favorite meal, "she stated as she walked back into the house.

Elanor lived in the back extension unit of my home. I had rescued her years back when I found her almost on the brink of death in the mountains. I never asked her what happened, and she never spoke about it. A week after she healed, I came and found the house sparkling clean; the clothes were cleaned, and she had cooked dinner. At that instance, we had an understanding and I let her stay.

I took a shower and then sat down to eat the food she had left in the oven. After placing the plate by the sink, I heard the first growl from one wolf and looked at the watch; it was close to midnight. I switched off the lights and sneaked out of the house. I used my Alpha power to enhance my senses and find out who or what it was that scared the wolves. The slow footsteps walking near the woods in my home made me rush towards whatever it was and then I came to a halt when I saw Conri’s cousin, slowly strolling at a distance without a care in the world. He must have sensed my presence, as he turned around and said, "The wolves you raised can sense me from a distance. You raised them well. "And with that, he was gone into the woods just as he arrived.

I stood there in shock and whispered, "What the fuck ?"
