Chapter 485: Chapter 483 Our Home

The mutilated body of the Siege Lion, pierced by flying swords, fell to the ground. Wen Wen removed a few barely usable pieces of fur and then plucked out its teeth and claws before leaving it be.

Its body was so sturdy, it should be possible to craft some nice protective gear from it.

"Save me... save me."

A faint female voice carried over, instantly grabbing Wen Wen’s attention.

"This is, a human voice, how could there be humans in the Qi Ling Mountain Range..."

Indeed, when the barrier had yet to be broken, there were several vehicles that had been attacked by monsters as they passed nearby. It wouldn’t be strange for some survivors to be here, but a lot of time had passed since then, how could a human have survived until now.

Despite his suspicion, Wen Wen planted a spear near the body of the Siege Lion and immediately headed toward the source of the voice.

All his abilities were prepared, and even if he encountered an ambush, no one would be able to hold him back.

After traveling only a few dozen meters, Wen Wen found a ponytailed young girl bound to a tree. Her body was wrapped in vines, and the large tree behind her was likely a plant-type monster similar to the Guile Tree Spirit.

Wen Wen said with an even tone, "I don’t know if you’re conscious, but since you haven’t tried to break through the barrier, you’re not on my kill-on-sight list. Just release that girl, and I can spare your life."

By now, an ordinary Tree Spirit posed no threat to Wen Wen, and he could easily kill it if he wished.

The Tree Spirit’s body shook like a sieve, but it made no sound, nor did it show any intention of releasing the girl.

"It’s afraid, but its branches are not under its control, and it can’t communicate with me... Either it is too weak, or this woman has been purposely tied up here, and the Tree Spirit is just a scapegoat."

Wen Wen’s lips curled into a smile, the situation becoming interesting. A hunt with a twist was always more engaging than just slashing whatever he saw.

Several Water Pokers condensed in Wen Wen’s hand, which he then flung toward the Tree Spirit, cutting the vines and lowering the girl to the ground.

As he suspected, the Tree Spirit made no resistance during the process, which meant it was incapable of doing so.

Wen Wen leaned in for a closer look and discovered that the connections between the Tree Spirit’s mouth and branches had been severed, stuck together only by some unknown mucus.

If it wasn’t for Wen Wen, someone else might have just killed the Tree Spirit outright without noticing anything amiss. So, this meant the young girl was meant to be rescued by someone—or something—on purpose.

"Heh, I’ll just follow your script then and see if there’s a surprising revelation to find."

Then, Wen Wen, pretending to be unaware of anything, approached the young girl and began to inquire about her identity.

The girl stepped back. In her eyes, Wen Wen was perhaps more frightening than an ordinary monster, but at the end of the day, he was still a human, so she said with a hint of fear:

"I, my name is Fu Xuerou. A few days ago, some of us were driving by this place when our car was attacked by a monster, and I was kidnapped by a Fish Monster and taken to a cave under a deep pool."

Wen Wen looked at Fu Xuerou with an odd expression. A Fish Monster, huh... one that captures but doesn’t kill...

It’s no wonder his thoughts ran wild, given how sensational that recent news story had been.

Wen Wen put away his mischievous demeanor and opened up the Ranger Terminal to check. He finally found that among the people who had disappeared outside of the Qi Ling Mountain Range, there was indeed someone named Fu Xuerou.

"Continue, what happened that led to you being tied up here?"

Fu Xuerou nodded and said, "That monster seemed not to want to kill me, but just locked me and my sister in a cell in the cave."

Mentioning the cell, Fu Xuerou shuddered, obviously terrified by the place: "That cave had many such cells, and each one contained rotting corpses or dry bones..."

"That Fish Monster seemed to have a special interest in me. Yesterday evening, it took me out of the pool, and it was also holding some special items, as if it was preparing some sort of ritual."

"After that, it met with another monster, and I took the chance to run out. Then, I was accidentally bound by this weird tree. Can you help me go back for my sister? I know how to find that pool."

After Fu Xuerou finished recounting her ordeal, Wen Wen was unsure how much of it was true, at least according to the records, she was an only child...

Nevertheless, Wen Wen still pretended to be duped by her, agreeing to help her rescue her sister, appearing every bit the righteous Demon Hunter.

The two walked toward the direction of the pool mentioned by Fu Xuerou, with Wen Wen following behind her. Fu Xuerou’s eyes brimmed with tears, making Wen Wen look like a great villain oppressing an innocent girl.

At first, Wen Wen noticed nothing, but soon he became aware that there was, in fact, a monster stealthily following behind him.

Its way of moving was strange, and it kept a sufficient distance from Wen Wen, masking its presence near perfectly. If it had not carried that special Qi of being marked, Wen Wen would have had a hard time noticing it.

This indicated that it had been close to the boundary of the barrier, and Fu Xuerou must have been snatched by it at that time.

But Wen Wen was puzzled, wondering why Fu Xuerou would help the monster deceive him, and from her expression, she did not appear to be under any sort of control.

After a while, Wen Wen grew impatient. Time was precious, and he couldn’t waste it all here. He grabbed Fu Xuerou’s clothes and flew into the sky, speeding toward that direction.

When he could see the pool from the air, Wen Wen suddenly stopped. Under Fu Xuerou’s astonished gaze, Wen Wen clutched her throat.

"That’s the pool right there. I don’t know what you’ve set up there, but considering I’ve gone along with you all this way, could you tell me about it?"

As they approached the pool, a faint premonition appeared on Wen Wen’s Custodian Badge, indicating something in that direction could threaten him, but it wasn’t necessarily fatal.

That’s why Wen Wen stopped approaching; he had to understand what was there before moving on.

"I... I..." Fu Xuerou stammered for a while but couldn’t form a complete sentence.

Wen Wen rolled his eyes. It was no wonder she couldn’t speak since he was choking her.

Fu Xuerou softened and said, "I wasn’t lying to you, my sister..."

"You don’t even have a sister. Never mind, I’ll ask myself!"

Wen Wen snapped his fingers, activating the abilities of Molodeni, the Heart Demon. Its powers allowed for mind control of ordinary humans, an effect far beyond hypnosis.

After Wen Wen used his abilities on her, a strong look of love suddenly appeared in Fu Xuerou’s eyes as she said to Wen Wen:

"That place is the home of me and Shanshan. Someone took our home, and I want you to help us take it back!"
