Chapter 250: Chapter 248 Light as a Swallow
The villagers circled around and took turns debating with Wen Wen, but everyone brave enough to speak was promptly shut down by him.
"You only argue with me but never take action. For villains, you really are quite amiable," said Wen Wen.
Wen Wen even had time to mock these people because their debating skills were just too poor, their thinking rigid, repeating the same few acidic phrases over and over.
Wen Wen wanted to try and see if he could draw out the person pulling the strings through this kind of debate.
But while Wen Wen was busy countering those people, Yuan Zhi behind him gradually became bewildered.
After hesitating for a moment, he took two steps forward and said with a pained expression, "I may indeed be guilty. I’ve let everyone down..."
Wen Wen immediately stopped talking, his pupils dilating slightly. Yuan Zhi had been normal just a moment ago; how had he suddenly become brainwashed in such a short time?
He was becoming like the other villagers!
Wen Wen was certain that since he had seen Yuan Zhi, nothing else had come into contact with him.
Therefore, what was causing the changes in Yuan Zhi and the villagers must be something invisible, continuous, and omnipresent!
If that was the case, continuing to waste time here would only make things worse.
So Wen Wen made a snap decision, knocking Yuan Zhi out with a chop of his hand, and then he hoisted him onto his shoulder.
"Three Cubs, go protect my car. If my car gets damaged by these people, I’ll make you eat shit!" exclaimed Wen Wen.
After saying that, Wen Wen leapt two meters into the air, light as a feather, and landed on the head of a villager. Then, as if stepping on wooden stakes, he stepped on their heads, trying to break out of the encirclement.
Since all the villagers moved alike, standing ramrod straight, Wen Wen’s footing was very stable.
Wen Wen’s lips curled up: "Tch, not all lies in martial arts movies, huh? You really can move like this..."
Right now, he wasn’t using any Monster physique, just relying on his own strength to accomplish this scene that seemed like something out of a movie.
But just as he made it halfway, the smile on Wen Wen’s face disappeared because he stepped on a bald head that glistened with oil!
And that bald head was slippery!
So naturally, Wen Wen, holding a person, fell to the ground, and then the villagers surrounded him.
The villagers rushed over like a tide, trying to subdue Wen Wen.
They clung close to Wen Wen, grabbing him and Yuan Zhi tightly, making it impossible for Wen Wen to jump away.
A trace of frustration flashed in his eyes. If only he hadn’t given that horn to Heng An, then just by blowing the horn, he could have subdued the villagers.
However, Wen Wen was only slightly frustrated, as these mentally disturbed villagers were still no match for him.
The villagers just held onto Wen Wen, preventing him from escaping, and began criticizing him from all sides. Coupled with their looks of disgust and disdain, it made Wen Wen feel a bit nauseated.
"I don’t quite understand. You’re grabbing onto me but not attacking me. Do you want to starve me to death or disgust me to death?" Wen Wen asked.
The Village Chief, leaning on a walking stick, shakily made his way over and said to Wen Wen, "The Creator teaches us not to use violence against our fellow beings, but we can use justice and love to reach out to you."
Then the old man kept looking at Wen Wen with gentle and righteous eyes... trying to awaken a sense of shame in Wen Wen.
Wen Wen was silent for two seconds, then extended two fingers.
The Village Chief looked at Wen Wen with confusion. What did he intend to do with those two fingers?
Then, Wen Wen jabbed his fingers towards the mayor’s eyes...
"Are you fucking sick in the head!"
The mayor, covering his eyes, writhed on the ground in pain while the look in the others’ eyes toward Wen Wen grew even more disdainful.
Of course, Wen Wen didn’t use much force, it was at most so that he wouldn’t be able to open his eyes for a while.
But should these two fingers trigger some eye disease in the mayor, Wen Wen certainly wouldn’t take responsibility.
After knocking down the mayor, Wen Wen coldly said to the others, "Aren’t you going to get out of my way, I won’t spare you just because you are the frail and the ill."
A woman stepped forward, looking at Wen Wen with disgust, "You can’t even refrain from hitting an old man, are you even human?"
Then Wen Wen punched her directly to the ground, shaking his fist and saying, "You really are strange, if condemnation worked, what would we need policemen for?"
Next, the townspeople crowded around Wen Wen one after another, and Wen Wen didn’t spare anyone, whether old or child, he greeted them all with a barrage of punches.
In just a few minutes, he had broken out of the furious encirclement.
Carrying Yuan Zhi on his back, Wen Wen shook his head and said, "Hey, I’ve punched them right in the face, yet no one resisted, the people in this town are all the kind who, after being hit on the right cheek, present the left, if those monsters were this easy to talk to, it’d save me so much trouble."
"However, it’s fortunate that this supernatural case only enveloped a single town. If it had been larger, it would have been a disaster, but for rulers in ancient times, this might have been considered a Divine Artifact for keeping people ignorant."
Although the townspeople were slow on their feet, wherever Wen Wen went, a zealous crowd would appear, looking at him with eyes of disgust, hoping to shame him to death.
At first, Wen Wen distributed punches to each of them to taste, but then he grew too lazy to bother, since these people could do nothing to affect him, apart from their condemnations and blank stares.
Just like mosquitoes outside a mosquito net, their buzzing can be annoying, but it’s pointless if they can’t bite you.
Wen Wen chose a relatively tall building and jumped onto its roof, looking down at the entire town.
Then he took a deep breath, closed his eyes and elevated his Inspiration to its peak, and when he opened them the world had changed.
A gray fog floated in the sky, and eerie shadows roamed everywhere.
Wen Wen had entered the Gray Mist Layer!
Aside from certain superpower users with special abilities, most living beings would automatically enter the Gray Mist Layer if their Inspiration was high enough.
Therefore, to avoid seeing things they shouldn’t, most superpower users were suppressing their own Inspiration.
But Wen Wen wanted to see things that are not normally visible, which is why he cranked up his Inspiration to the max.
Looking towards the town, although it was deep into the night, the town was brighter than daylight; atop the church at the entrance, the stone ring behind the Angel statue was emitting endless light, illuminating the entire town.
Every townsman, even every little animal in the town, had this sort of light on them.
Only the unconscious Yuan Zhi had a less noticeable light about him, but the light on him was still deepening faintly.
"It seems that as long as they are bathed in this light, they will eventually be transformed into the appearance of the townspeople," Wen Wen thought with some understanding of the situation. Therefore, he returned his Inspiration to normal, then employed the Golden Eagle Physique, sprouting a pair of wings on his back, and carried Yuan Zhi to a place outside the town that was untouched by the light.
Since he didn’t know whether the effects caused by this light were reversible, Wen Wen didn’t want his employer to take the risk.
As a detective, he still retained some professional integrity.
