Chapter 207: Chapter 305 That Thing
Um ... this is Chapter Two Hundred and Five, don’t mind it
...
According to the records of the Hunter Association, under specific conditions, ordinary people have an extremely slim chance of entering the Gray Mist Layer, but the chance of survival is almost nil.
If he really entered the Gray Mist Layer and came out alive, the matter might not be that simple.
Wen Wen’s demeanor became slightly more serious as he continued, "Go on, did you notice anything unusual afterward?"
"What unusual things?" Zheng Feng said with a wry smile.
"I am someone with a fixed routine, and my life has been normal since then. But whether it’s this kid or my wife, both think there’s something wrong with me, persistently wanting to get me medical help."
"So ... where did your wife go, do you know?"
With a troubled expression, Zheng Feng rubbed his hair and said, "I don’t know where she went, she just disappeared without a word, but she left me a letter before leaving, saying she was going out to clear her mind and told me not to worry about her."
Wen Wen tilted his head slightly, leaned towards Li Dazhuang, and said, "But ... you told Li Dazhuang earlier that your wife went back to her parents’ home."
"Did I? I’ve never said such a thing." Without any hesitation, Zheng Feng denied the claim.
Neither Li Dazhuang nor Zheng Feng saw Wen Wen gently pull out Li Dazhuang’s wallet and place it behind the sofa, in a spot that was not easily missed, yet not very conspicuous.
Wen Wen had once caught a pickpocket and had taken the time to learn from him. Although he was no master thief, lifting a wallet from Li Dazhuang posed no problem for him.
"Aside from psychological issues, have you had any physical problems since then?"
After contemplating for a moment, Zheng Feng said, "It can’t be said that there were none. I might have been frightened that night, so lately I’ve been quite sleepy, often falling asleep for no apparent reason."
"And I keep having nightmares too, I even dream that my wife is lying in the refrigerator looking at me tenderly, probably because I’ve been too tired recently."
Constantly falling asleep out of the blue ... Multiple personalities?
Wen Wen then asked a few more trivial questions before he took Li Dazhuang and left Zheng Feng’s home.
"Strange, my uncle always resisted psychologists, how come he was so cooperative with you?"
Wen Wen shamelessly said, "Because I’m a good guy."
He first asked Li Dazhuang to wait a moment and then made a phone call.
"Hello, Mingguang? Help me check on a person, the guy’s name is Zheng Feng, I need his wife’s whereabouts."
"What do you want with someone’s wife, hey, and his wife is quite the looker, don’t tell me you’ve taken a fancy to her? We at the Association can’t be involved in illegal activities."
"You’re thinking crap," Wen Wen shot back.
As he bantered with Wen Wen, Ding Mingguang was already pulling up all the relevant information and had sent it to Wen Wen’s phone.
With a brief look, Wen Wen fell into thought.
Without a doubt, there was something wrong with Zheng Feng’s home.
Wen Wen was extremely sensitive to the scent of blood and could easily tell there was a blood scent in his home, and that scent wasn’t Zheng Feng’s.
The most crucial part was that Wen Wen saw some interesting things in the kitchen.
But now, Wen Wen wasn’t quite sure where exactly the problem lay.
Rushing into action was definitely not a good choice, which is why he had brought Li Dazhuang out.
After thinking about what to do next, Wen Wen pretended to be disappointed, shook his head, and shouted to Li Dazhuang, "Your uncle is fine, you should head home, ah, I’ve made a wasted trip."
"Wait, this place is so remote, and there’s no bus, you’re telling me to go back by myself?" Li Dazhuang looked at Wen Wen in disbelief.
Wen Wen boldly said, "What, I came out here because of you, didn’t earn a penny, and now I have to spend money on gas to take you home?"
Then, he directly drove off, leaving only Li Dazhuang alone in the cold wind, disheveled.
"Damn it, I must be out of my mind to have asked him to treat my uncle; the man is clearly a lunatic."
So, he had no choice but to walk back alone; his uncle’s place was in an old neighborhood, quite a distance from the bus stop, requiring a bit of a walk.
The streetlights were dim and flickering, making Li Dazhuang shrink his neck.
He always felt as though there was something lurking in the shadows that he couldn’t see.
Suddenly, someone grabbed his shoulder, gripping it painfully.
Li Dazhuang felt a chill run from his toes up to his hair, leaving him cold and terrified.
"It’s over, I’m done for. If I die, it’s all that pervert detective’s fault."
"Zhuangzi, what are you spacing out for, it’s me."
Hearing the familiar voice, Li Dazhuang let out a slight sigh of relief, turned around, and saw that the person behind him was indeed his uncle, Zheng Feng.
"Ah, Uncle, how did you suddenly come up from behind? You scared me to death."
Li Dazhuang spoke unclearly, his voice trembling as he spoke.
Tears suddenly filled Zheng Feng’s eyes, and he choked up as he shook Li Dazhuang’s shoulders, saying, "You can see me, you really can see me."
Only then did Li Dazhuang notice something was off about Zheng Feng.
He had just left Zheng Feng’s home, where Zheng Feng had been neatly dressed, a picture of grace and intellect.
But now, his face was pale, his hair disheveled, his eyes bloodshot, and the hand clutching Li Dazhuang’s shoulder was nervously shaking, like a lunatic.
"Of course, I can see you. How did you become like this in just a few minutes?"
Zheng Feng shook his head violently and said, "Not a few minutes, two months. Do you know what I have been through these two months?"
"Let’s not talk about that now. Earlier at my place, you had a psychologist check out that thing, right? You’ve noticed that thing’s abnormality; it won’t leave you alone. Let’s run now."
Li Dazhuang was completely baffled; what was wrong with his uncle, what thing, always talking about not being able to see him.
On several previous occasions, when Li Dazhuang noticed something abnormal about Zheng Feng, it always seemed to be like this. Could it be that he was having another episode?
He patted Zheng Feng’s shoulder, trying to calm him, "Uncle, calm down, I just came from your place, and what exactly is this thing you’re talking about?"
Zheng Feng’s face twisted as he spoke about that thing, trembling uncontrollably, "I don’t know what it is, what you all see of me is that thing, a monster, a terrifying monster!"
Li Dazhuang sighed, Zheng Feng had lost his reason, and he decided to tell his parents and find a way to have Zheng Feng admitted to a mental hospital.
"Alright Uncle, I think I understand, let’s go back home."
"We can’t go back home, can’t go back, that thing is waiting for us there."
As soon as he heard about going home, Zheng Feng began to tremble violently as if he was extremely frightened.
Li Dazhuang frowned, what exactly was this thing he kept talking about?
Suddenly, his phone lit up, someone was calling him.
He picked it up and saw the name displayed on the caller ID... it was Zheng Feng!
