Chapter 989: Chapter 529: The Prestige Goes Without Saying_4
No matter who it is, there’s always a few who will back them up, and considering Old Zheng had worked in the zoo for so long as a senior comrade, there were quite a few who echoed his bizarre utterances.
These people all unanimously felt that what Xiao Qin reported back on his first trip was pure nonsense. Who’s heard of raising tigers like dogs, keeping them on chains? And which household is so wealthy that they can afford to feed tigers nothing but beef, spending hundreds of thousands a month?
And yet Xiao Qin said so, and Old Wu actually believed it—so there were those who speculated. Could it be that this zoo will one day be owned by their family? Whatever they say goes, as if we’re all invisible, right?
Thinking about these remarks—which, though not made to his face, inevitably found their way to his ears—Old Wu now looked at Tiger Da and suddenly wasn’t afraid anymore. His gaze was filled with compassion, concern, and an indescribable warmth, so much so that even Tiger Da, who had until then been self-possessed, started to feel uneasy: Does this old man have ill intentions towards me?
Emboldened by the steadfast support of an Old Zheng loyalist, he mustered the courage to walk two steps towards Old Zheng, only to stop and call out when he realized he didn’t dare to continue towards Tiger Da, "Director Zheng, you’d better come over here quickly!"
Old Zheng’s voice was tinged with a cry, "I can’t walk any further... Boss Yan, Boss Yan, you must hold onto your tiger tightly, don’t let go for heaven’s sake!"
Yan Fei pretended not to hear, greeted Xu Xiaoyan who was accompanied by two female employees, and with the tiger in tow, headed inside.
He had been to the zoo before, how could he not know the way in? Even asking earlier was merely out of politeness. Now, seeing how even Xiao Qin didn’t dare to walk in front of him—or rather, in front of Tiger Da.
He might as well lead the tiger on his own.
All right then!
Now, the guest had become the host, nonchalantly leading the tiger at the front, with Old Wu summoning people to follow behind, careful not to get too close. They spoke in hushed tones for fear of startling the tiger, yet worried Yan Fei wouldn’t hear them if they were too quiet, which made for an incredibly awkward scene.
Adding to the discomfort, two of Old Zheng’s close associates saw a wet stain on his pants when they went over to support him. With the weather being so pleasant and the park filled with flowers and trees, the fresh air made any off-odors particularly noticeable, and the situation was all too clear without saying a word.
Yan Fei had initially been walking slowly, but when Tiger Da sensed that they were heading towards the zoo, it became restless and quickened its pace.
Just now, it had sniffed in this direction, and Yan Fei understood that it must have detected the scent of the zoo animals. After all, it had been a long time since it had seen so many different animals, and with the trees and grass in the park, this beast might even have thought it was entering the forest!
As they accelerated, Old Wu and his group had no choice but to start jogging after them. They occasionally gave Yan Fei hesitant, subdued hints—although Yan Fei certainly didn’t need them.
By the time Old Zheng, supported by others, had entered the park’s main gate, an uproar suddenly erupted from behind that frightened the already weak-kneed Old Zheng, rendering his legs powerless. Had it not been for the support of those around him, he probably would’ve gone down on his knees right there.
Not far from the zoo was an intersection—one of the busier ones in the city, usually managed by traffic police, with a police box nearby.
Hearing the uproar, two policemen from the police box and the officer in the middle of the road sprinted over, fearing they’d be too late to prevent an ’accident’ from happening here.
Then, mere seconds later, two policemen and a traffic officer looked at each other and then back at the scene before them, each at a loss for words.
An elated crowd, and to say they were excited would scarcely cover it; ’exhilarated’ would be more apt.
The sight of a genuine wild tiger so ’close’ for the first time, witnessing such unrestrained, explosive wildness in its entirety, ignited a fever in these city-dwellers that went straight to their heads.
Observing the creature’s casual, yet majestically awe-inspiring saunter, its agile limbs, and the occasional glimpse of its fangs and claws. The disinterested gaze of its light yellow eyes sweeping the surroundings...
Dominance!
That was pure dominance!
In these brief minutes, the crowd felt terror, awe, excitement...
These emotions mingled together, leaving an impact that words could hardly describe. Everyone was wildly unleashing the feelings that they had suppressed moments before, not even really aware of the things they were saying.
They just had to talk loudly, laugh broadly, and endlessly discuss the tiger—its majesty, its authority—going on and on.
Otherwise, how could they express what they were feeling at this moment?
Even complete strangers were now chatting as if they were friends, though it wasn’t so much a conversation as it was everyone just talking at once.
It was as if someone from a secluded ravine, who’d barely ever watched television, happened to unexpectedly find themselves viewing a blockbuster showing of ’Jurassic Park’ in 3D on a gigantic screen, all without a hint of mental preparation.
Shocked and more exhilarated than if they’d just seen such a spectacle—after all, the tiger here was more real, and the roar they had just heard was still echoing in their ears.
That was what you call commanding presence!
In the midst of this frenzied exhilaration, anyone unaware of the circumstances would think they had collectively lost their minds.
