Chapter 1586: Chapter 759: Looking for Laborers

The type of greenery that the neighborhood builds up isn’t really a big deal. Flowers, shrubs, fruit trees are all fine, other than the commonly respected practices of not planting mulberry trees in the front or willows in the back, anything goes—these are truly trivialities. As long as it pleases the residents based on their actual situation or needs, it’s good enough.

Even for a laboratory, what kind of trees are planted outside doesn’t really matter—But even with inconsequential matters, if someone forces you to do it their way, it’s bound to cause discomfort.

How others feel about it, Yan Fei doesn’t know; but for himself, the annoyance made him immediately want to confront the owner of the landscaping company with a blunt question: Do you wish to live or die?

Such actions, seemingly within the rules yet intentionally accepting benefits, are more detestable than blatant greed and corruption—it’s as if they feel smart about it. For those who need permits, reasoning has no place to be heard, and gathering evidence is hardly feasible; how infuriating is that?

It would be better to just name a price; like how much it would cost to fast-track certain procedures. After all, for those in a hurry to get permits and frustrated by slow processes, paying extra to get their permits earlier is like opting for express air mail; you pay more for different privileges.

However, just when Yan Fei was about to stand up, he sat back down again, after a moment of thought, he calmly said to Wang Lei: "Don’t worry about this for now. We’ve already submitted all our documents, and it’s always been the norm to get permits while construction is underway, even though it’s against the regulations. Just keep going, and give me a call when someone comes looking for trouble."

After sending Wang Lei away, he became pensive. This time he wasn’t pondering over how to ’off’ the young master of the landscaping company, but rather planning to use some civilized means to tackle the problem—after all, he’s a college graduate now and couldn’t keep being as rudimentary and forceful as before.

Plus, resolving the issue too bluntly and simply wouldn’t be satisfying enough. Since the other party could frustrate him with unwritten rules, he had to return the favor with equal measure.

After some thought, and noting there was still some time before his wife finished school, he habitually took out a stack of papers from his all-purpose leather bag, selected a few, looked at them, and then took two more before driving to Agricultural University.

Going to the Agricultural University obviously means visiting Professor He. Currently, Professor He isn’t teaching many classes, just a few for the students each week, so he’s easy to find, either in his office or at home.

Upon meeting Professor He, Yan Fei proudly slapped the papers onto the table: "Take a look, our lab is planning to start this project, what do you think?"

"Not another dinosaur study, is it?" Professor He teased him as usual, but when he looked at the papers, he was taken aback. "Your new lab, not even fully staffed yet, is ready to clone cows? Several major labs in our country have been working on this for years with support from above, and haven’t made much progress. Do you think you can make it?"

"Why not, huh!" Yan Fei’s expression was slightly exaggerated. "I’m not boasting, but I’ve got the whole set of experiment procedures, and if there are no mistakes mid-way, I bet we can see results in three months—you believe it or not?"

"I believe you could blow up a cow with your bragging," Professor He responded, his eyes never leaving the documents.

Yan Fei simply smiled without a word.

As Professor He continued to read, he eventually got surprised himself: "Are you sure these materials are right? Because these steps seem quite relevant!"

"What do you mean ’quite relevant’? These are legit. Let me tell you..." Yan Fei suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

Professor He, skimming the documents at ten lines a glance, had just finished the last two pages when he heard Yan Fei stop. He was about to ask what was up when he heard the sound of the door opening. Yan Fei stood up to help carry in the groceries that Professor He’s wife had brought, exchanged a few words with her in the kitchen, then came back out.

"I’m not just talking big; I bought second-hand equipment from Japan before, and got these through the same channels." Yan Fei whispered. "I’ve even sold some second-hand equipment to the authorities, through the security department, really."

"No kidding?" Professor He said earnestly, instinctively lowering his voice too. "You never mentioned that before?"

Yan Fei looked at him disdainfully: "You couldn’t possibly fail to understand that, right? Although it’s good news for us, could I just blab about it?"

"Indeed." Seeing Yan Fei’s genuine expression, Professor He started to believe him.

"I still have their contact info. To be honest, if I didn’t have my own lab, I could’ve sold this information for a good price," Yan Fei added.

"So you’re saying this is the real deal?" Professor He still found it a bit hard to believe. Such information should never leak so easily, so how did this guy get his hands on it?

"What do I gain from joking with you? Teacher Qi has seen the complete set," Yan Fei didn’t feel like explaining anymore. "I’ve planned it all; Teacher Qi will lead the home lab, do the primary work. This lab will provide support, go through the procedures quickly, and get the results out."
