Chapter 442: Chapter 0443 Who’s making trouble [Part 1]
Young Master Kong’s words carried both a tone of bragging and a hint of threat.
Yafang’s maternal aunt heard what Young Master Kong had said and immediately reacted with eager agreement, fawningly saying, "Exactly, the Finance Bureau? Even if you pass the exam, it’s not guaranteed you can get in. I heard that this year’s competition ratio at the Finance Bureau, for our city, has reached several thousand to one, and even though your older brother got the second-highest score, without connections, one could be eliminated at any time."
"If getting second place can still get you eliminated, then the director of the Finance Bureau must be at the end of his rope." Just as Yafang’s maternal aunt finished speaking, a relaxed voice came through.
Then, the six people looked up and saw Chu Feng walking over with a cup of coffee in his hand.
In reality, Chu Feng truly didn’t want to meddle in such matters, and of course, the main reason was that Chu Feng didn’t want to provoke Xue Yafang.
Having too many female friends already caused enough headaches for Chu Feng.
However, after all, Yafang was still his classmate and had always been very supportive of his work in school. Somehow, they could be considered friends, so Chu Feng felt it wouldn’t be right to ignore her now that they had met.
Besides Yafang, the other five individuals wore a look of confusion on their faces because they did not recognize Chu Feng at all.
Yafang also didn’t expect to run into Chu Feng here and her face could hardly conceal her surprise.
"Class President, how come you are here?" Yafang asked in surprise.
Chu Feng said, "I came out to buy some New Year goods with my family. They went to purchase some items, and I had nothing else to do, so I came here to take a rest. I didn’t expect to run into you. What brings you here?"
Upon hearing Chu Feng’s question, Yafang’s pretty face slightly changed color. Ostensibly, she was here for matchmaking.
But how was she to explain this to Chu Feng? Could she really tell him that she was here for a matchmaking event?
However, it was clear Chu Feng didn’t press the issue further and instead looked at Yafang’s parents, saying, "These two must be Uncle and Auntie. Hello, I am Xue Yafang’s classmate."
Yafang’s parents both greeted Chu Feng warmly. As for Yafang’s maternal aunt’s family and that so-called Young Master Kong, they were directly ignored by Chu Feng.
"Uncle, I just heard that you passed the Finance Bureau’s exam, congratulations," Chu Feng said enthusiastically.
"Passing the exam is nothing special, getting in is what counts." Kong Jun’ai, who had been in the social scene for years, could easily see the expression on Yafang’s face and what it meant.
Yafang’s preference for this young man in front of her infuriated Kong Jun’ai.
In terms of looks, he was handsomer than Chu Feng, and when it came to family background, Kong Jun’ai was very confident.
He couldn’t comprehend how Yafang could like Chu Feng. It defied logic, so he was determined to crush Chu Feng thoroughly and from all angles. He wanted to show Yafang how laughable and fragile her so-called pure love was in the face of reality.
Chu Feng seemed to only then notice Kong Jun’ai, saying, "If you passed the exam, don’t you just need to go through the interview to get in?"
Kong Jun’ai gave a cold laugh and said, "So you did know there’s an interview. I thought you were unaware."
"Who are you, and what mess are you creating here? If you cause my older brother to miss his chance at the Finance Bureau because of you, can you afford the responsibility?" Not only did Yafang’s maternal aunt know how to kiss up, but she was also adept at reading situations.
She could tell that Xue Yafang was fond of Chu Feng, and she could also see that Kong Jun’ai despised him.
Asking her to choose between Chu Feng and Kong Jun’ai was tantamount to insulting her intelligence.
Because in her eyes, it wasn’t even a matter worth choosing over.
A poor kid who hadn’t graduated from college and didn’t dress particularly well couldn’t possibly compare with the son of the head of the Finance Bureau.
Chu Feng said, "I’m just here to offer congratulations, I never said I came to cause trouble."
"You being here is causing trouble. Hurry up and leave; we have important matters to discuss," Xue Yafang’s maternal aunt said with utter distaste as she glanced at Chu Feng.
"Aunt, what do you mean? Chu Feng is my classmate. He came to congratulate my father; how is that causing trouble?" Xue Yafang, hearing her aunt being so rude to Chu Feng, also got angry.
In Xue Yafang’s heart, Chu Feng was not to be insulted.
"If he causes your uncle to fail the interview, then that’s causing trouble," Kong Jun’ai said indifferently.
"Did you hear that, Yafang? Hurry up and get your classmate out of here," Xue Yafang’s aunt urged anxiously.
"Classmate Chu, why don’t you have a seat over there for a bit? If you need to talk to Yafang, she can come find you later," Xue Yafang’s mother suggested with a somewhat awkward expression.
It hadn’t been easy for her husband to achieve second place, and given his age, this was his last chance. If he missed this opportunity, there would be no more chances for her husband.
"Leave? Why should I leave? Chu merely came to congratulate me. Did Chu say anything else? Just because I ranked second in the exam, does that mean I should skulk around in secret? I got second place through my own merit; if I don’t pass the interview, that’s on me," Xue Yafang’s father, who had been holding back his frustration for a while, finally erupted.
Xue Yafang’s father despised dishonest practices the most; otherwise, he wouldn’t have to be taking such exams in his forties.
Upon hearing Xue Yafang’s father’s words, Chu Feng nodded slightly in his heart. If Xue Yafang’s father had chosen to expel him as well,
Chu Feng might actually have left, but it was clear that Xue Yafang’s father was a man of integrity, and that made him worthy of Chu Feng’s assistance.
"Aunt Wu, it seems your uncle is very confident about joining the Finance Bureau. I’ll wish your husband success in advance then. I have other matters to attend to, so I will take my leave," Kong Jun’ai stood up to say.
"Young Master Kong, don’t go. We don’t even know this kid; he’s just here to wreak havoc. Don’t take it to heart, Young Master Kong," Xue Yafang’s aunt quickly got up, stopping Kong Jun’ai and said.
Chu Feng looked at Xue Yafang’s father, who had a troubled expression, and smiled, "Uncle, I actually know some people too. Although I can’t get you through the back door, I can ensure you get a fair treatment based on your own abilities."
Kong Jun’ai, upon hearing Chu Feng’s words, paused in his steps. He stared at Chu Feng, his face filled with scorn and contempt, and said, "You can make the interview fair? Who do you think you are? Do you know the level of officials who submit requests to the Finance Bureau every day? Even the deputy mayor has to queue up, and you dare talk about fairness? Aren’t you afraid the wind might blow too hard and twist your tongue?"
Chu Feng replied, "Whether the deputy mayor has to queue up, I don’t know, but I can be sure that I can make the interview fair."
"Kid, stop causing trouble. Do you even know who the candidates are for this interview? Young Master Kong’s father is also one of the interviewees. Go cool off over there; you are not welcome here!" Xue Yafang’s aunt said with a fierce look but with fear in her heart.
