Chapter 443: Chapter 0444 Who’s making trouble [Part 2]
Xue Yafang’s Aunt’s words were already quite impolite.
But upon hearing Xue Yafang’s Aunt’s words, her mother’s face turned a shade paler.
She did not know that Kong Jun’ai’s father was also one of the members of the interview panel.
Now that she knew, she also realized that her husband’s future was ruined.
Xue Yafang’s father’s face wasn’t looking too good either.
He had been preparing for this exam for nearly a year. It was his last chance, and if he lost this last chance, it would be disingenuous to say he wouldn’t be upset.
Xue Yafang’s face still showed no emotion.
Kong Jun’ai was feeling extremely smug. He relished this feeling.
He didn’t need to speak, and yet there were people who would speak out for him. This not only showcased his modesty but also had others blow his trumpet for him. And of course, it also allowed him to show off indirectly.
The highest realm of bragging and showing off might just be nothing beyond this.
Kong Jun’ai assumed the posture of a victor, looking down on Chu Feng and Xue Yafang’s family.
"Little Chu..."
Before Xue Yafang’s mother could speak, Xue Yafang’s father angrily rebuked, "Is it just a clerk at the Finance Bureau? It’s not my first failure. If I don’t do it, I don’t do it. Can a living person be suffocated to death by urine? I can’t do something like selling my daughter. Yafang, let’s go home."
Xue Yafang was very touched by her father’s words.
"Aunt Wu, seeing as things have come to this, I truly have no other option and am unable to help. Since uncle has already given up, let’s just let this matter go," Kong Jun’ai said coldly.
Before Xue Yafang’s aunt could speak, Chu Feng interjected, "How can we just let it go like this? Looking at uncle, I see a fullness in his Heavenly Court, a clear sign of a prospering official fortune. This year, uncle, you will surely pass the exam."
Hearing Chu Feng’s words, Xue Yafang’s father gave a helpless, bitter smile. What kind of nonesense was this? If fortune-telling could be so accurate, then why had he even bothered preparing for so long.
Kong Jun’ai, too, was so annoyed by Chu Feng’s words that he burst into laughter, "You say you know people; could it be some sort of Immortal or fortune-teller?"
Chu Feng shook his head, "These are feudal superstitions that shouldn’t be promoted."
Chu Feng glanced outside and, seeing An Rongrong and her group approaching, he also stood up and wrote down a phone number, "Uncle, if you want a fair interview environment, call this number. Explain your situation to them, and just say that I asked them to help, and they will surely do it. I have something else to attend to, so I’ll be leaving first."
Chu Feng put down the phone number and then turned to leave the cafe.
"What sort of person is this, coming here to stir things up and then leaving a phone number before running away with his tail between his legs. Yafang, does this classmate of yours have a grudge against you?" Xue Yafang’s Aunt said sarcastically.
"It seems so. You’d better think back carefully to see if there’s anywhere you might have offended such a petty person," Kong Jun’ai also said with mockery.
"Others are trying to help, and you haven’t even made a call before you start scoffing and mocking," Xue Yafang’s father couldn’t stand the sneering and mocking directed at his daughter any longer and stood up to speak up for her.
"A call like this is probably 90 percent likely to be a dead number," Kong Jun’ai continued to strike with his words.
He wanted to make Xue Yafang realize just how wide the gap was between reality and her expectations. He wanted her to get down on her knees and beg him to take her. He relished the sense of conquest this gave him.
"Not just 90 percent fake, I bet it’s a hundred percent phony. Anyone can jot down a number for show; who can’t do that?" Xue Yafang’s maternal aunt vented all her anger on Xue Yafang.
"Chu Feng wouldn’t lie. If he says this number is useful, then it must be," Xue Yafang said with unwavering conviction.
"Yafang, it seems you’re still too naive. Do you think the world is as simple as your school? Today, your aunt will teach you a lesson and show you what kind of person your so-called classmate really is." After saying that, Xue Yafang’s aunt snatched the telephone number from her father’s hand, ready to dial.
Just as Xue Yafang’s aunt was about to dial, she sneered at the number on the paper, "This is even a landline number; he could have written a mobile number, which would have been better than a landline. He can’t even fake it right; I really wonder which phone booth this landline connects to."
Xue Yafang’s father and mother, upon hearing what their sister-in-law said, also showed a hint of embarrassment on their faces—a landline left them with little confidence. What sort of important person would always be next to a landline?
Of course, this was because they were unaware of the situation. He Jianguo’s private number was something Chu Feng couldn’t possibly give to them. Since it concerned He Jianguo’s own privacy, after much contemplation, Chu Feng could only provide them with a landline number that led directly to He Jianguo’s office.
When Kong Jun’ai heard Xue Yafang’s aunt’s words, he also halted in his tracks because he wanted to see what trick Chu Feng was playing.
Of course, he was more eager to see Xue Yafang’s look of disappointment, and even better, to see how she would plead with him. Only then would he feel the satisfying sense of conquest.
Xue Yafang’s father originally wanted to stop her, as he likewise had little confidence. However, he didn’t want his daughter to be embarrassed. But Xue Yafang’s aunt was quicker, and he could only sigh, thinking it would be no big deal to quickly take his daughter and leave later on.
The call was soon connected, to the surprise of Xue Yafang’s aunt, who had expected it to be a dead number.
Soon the call was answered, and a deep and authoritative middle-aged male voice came from the other end, "This is He Jianguo, may I know who’s speaking?"
"He Jianguo? Never heard of him. What do you do?" Xue Yafang’s aunt muttered to herself before asking bluntly.
Upon hearing the name He Jianguo, Kong Jun’ai frowned as the name seemed familiar, as though he had come across it somewhere.
"I am the City Party Secretary He Jianguo—who are you?" He Jianguo took the initiative to state his position.
"City Party Secretary, haha, why don’t you just say you’re the President?" Xue Yafang’s aunt said exaggeratedly upon hearing He Jianguo’s introduction.
When Kong Jun’ai heard Xue Yafang’s aunt’s words, his complexion abruptly changed because he realized that the City Party Secretary of East River was indeed He Jianguo.
At this, Kong Jun’ai frantically picked up the phone number that Xue Yafang’s aunt had discarded on the ground like trash.
Seeing the familiar prefixes on the phone number, Kong Jun’ai’s face turned paler than paper.
Xue Yafang’s aunt, noticing Kong Jun’ai’s expression upon seeing the phone, realized that this call might have caused a huge mess.
