Chapter 107 - 0107: Don’t Force Me to Be More Despicable Than You

Chapter 107: Chapter 0107: Don’t Force Me to Be More Despicable Than You

Standing at attention was the most tedious and the most exhausting thing to do. For these Heavenly Chosen Sons, it was even more so.

Their instructor, a not very tall but very sturdy Little Black, was a man of few words and serious demeanor.

Little Black rarely smiled and gave off a very strict vibe.

"Today, you only have one task, stand until dinner time, and then you can disband," Little Black said.

Upon hearing this, everyone immediately started to moan and groan. There were still two hours until dinner, and they wondered how they could stand for so long.

"Anyone who moves, gets an extra minute!" Little Black said sternly.

Hearing this, no one dared to move.

"In addition, I will choose one person among you who stands at attention the best to assist me. Of course, this will earn you academic credits and will be recorded in your file, so I hope you all perform well," Little Black said.

At these words, everyone’s spirits were immediately lifted. Academic credits were very important, and to have it written into their records was a stepping stone to future employment.

But this burst of excitement lasted only an hour; most people could no longer hold on after that. Their military posture completely fell apart. Little Black didn’t intervene, as he knew that standing at attention for two hours was a bit too much for these kids.

By now, the only three people still maintaining their posture were Chu Feng, Tie Mu, and Luan Fei.

Chu Feng and Tie Mu were both martial arts experts; this kind of military posture was akin to resting for them. As for Luan Fei, he naturally aimed for the academic credits and also to build a tall image to score points for his campaign to become class leader.

Little Black nodded slightly at the three of them, but he was more satisfied with Chu Feng and Tie Mu.

Because it was almost two hours now, and Chu Feng and Tie Mu’s faces were still without a trace of sweat. This surprised him, as even he would sweat after standing like that for two hours.

Of course, the most frustrated person at this time was probably Luan Fei. His back was already drenched in sweat, and he felt his legs were beginning to disobey him. But looking at Chu Feng and Tie Mu, they seemed completely unaffected.

After gritting his teeth, Luan Fei finally said, "Report!"

"Speak!" Little Black turned to Luan Fei and said.

"Reporting to the instructor, I am the class’s acting monitor, and I think I can assist you in managing the class well," Luan Fei said.

Upon hearing Luan Fei’s words, Little Black responded with disdain, "Now is not the time to choose a class leader; that is your teacher’s business. I’m here to choose the person who stands at attention the best. You’ve moved already, you’re no longer qualified."

When Luan Fei heard Little Black’s words, his face immediately turned red with embarrassment, and his classmates looked at him with a hint of mockery in their eyes.

Feeling the weight of those gazes, Luan Fei felt somewhat disgraced.

"All right! Time’s up, and there are only two winners, these two students here. Which one of you wants to assist me?" Little Black said.

Upon hearing this, Luan Fei cast a resentful glance at Chu Feng.

The better Chu Feng performed, the worse the news for him.

Chu Feng said, "Let’s have Tie Mu do it. He’s tall and strong, just right to be the standard-bearer of our class, and it’s also a better look when students from other classes see."

Little Black nodded at Chu Feng’s words, which coincided with his own preferred choice.

Although Chu Feng was very good, Tie Mu’s appearance obviously pleased Little Black more.

Little Black nodded and said, "Good! Then let’s have student Tie Mu assist me. However, I will explain to your school. You will get academic credits and it will be recorded in your file."

"Thank you, instructor!" Chu Feng said.

"Everybody, fall in! The target is the cafeteria, run forward!" Little Black nodded, then with a loud shout, immediately everyone’s eyes lit up as they formed up and ran toward the cafeteria.

After having dinner, everyone returned to their dormitories, too exhausted to do anything but collapse.

"Chu Feng, why’d you give me such a good opportunity to be the model soldier? If you showed your face around more, you could get more votes during the elections." After returning to their dormitory, Tie Mu was still dwelling on the issue.

"He probably thinks you’re a big, dumb lug, and it makes his humility stand out more," Luan Fei joked.

In the military barracks, conditions naturally couldn’t be as good as at school, so all the boys in Chu Feng’s class shared one dormitory.

Upon hearing Luan Fei’s words, Tie Mu abruptly stood up and said, "What did you say, kid? Believe it or not, Laozi will tear your damn mouth apart!"

Luan Fei looked at the agitated Tie Mu, a hint of malice showing in his eyes as if his scheme had succeeded, then, pretending to be angry, said, "I’ll say whatever I want, and besides, it’s just a joke. The only one who can’t take a joke and gets angry is you, the big dumb lug."

Tie Mu was quick to anger, and Luan Fei’s taunting words nearly set him off.

"If you want a fair competition, Luan Fei, I’m game. But if you use such despicable tactics, then I’m telling you, I can be even lower than you," Chu Feng said, holding back Tie Mu with a dark look on his face.

Luan Fei was clearly ready to provoke Tie Mu with the same tactic, and if Tie Mu got into a fight in the barracks, things would get much worse. By then, even if he knew Elder He personally, he probably wouldn’t be able to protect Tie Mu.

Upon hearing Chu Feng’s words, Luan Fei’s face showed an ugly expression, yet he retorted, "What despicable tactics have I used? I was only joking. Don’t spout nonsense and slander people, Chu Feng."

Chu Feng, looking at the agitated Luan Fei, replied, "Whether I’ve slandered you or not, you know the truth. I just want to let you know, anyone can stoop low, it’s just that I disdain to do so. But if you really force my hand to resort to underhanded measures, I think you’ll regret it."

Han Chunsheng, putting down his handbook of military training rules, said, "Actually, Luan Fei, you really don’t need to strut around like a fighting rooster, flaunting your feathers. You should be familiar with the phrase ’you won’t die if you don’t seek death,’ so it’s better for a rooster to avoid picking fights to live well."

"Haha!"

Hearing Han Chunsheng’s remarks, Tie Mu burst into uncontrollable laughter.

"A fighting rooster, what a vivid metaphor!" Tie Mu laughed heartily.

Luan Fei, his face flushed and his neck swollen with anger at Han Chunsheng’s comment, demanded, "What are you saying? Who are you calling a fighting rooster? Who has the eyes of a rooster?"

In fact, Luan Fei did have a bit of a rooster-eyed look, but his good looks, combined with wearing colored contacts, meant no one could tell. However, he didn’t know how Han Chunsheng had figured it out.

Han Chunsheng replied very seriously, "I was also joking—only someone who’s as brainless as a fighting rooster, like you, wouldn’t catch that."

"You..."

When Luan Fei heard Han Chunsheng echo the same ridicule he had directed at Chu Mu back at himself, he was so angry he couldn’t utter a word.

"You all wait and see!" Luan Fei threw down these harsh words and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

"Only a defeated hen would run away with its tail between its legs," Chu Feng said softly just as Luan Fei reached the door, nearly causing him to trip and fall.

Once Luan Fei was gone, the dormitory quieted down. The others went about their own business since they hadn’t known each other long and didn’t have much to talk about yet.

"Chu Feng, just tell me why you gave me this chance. If you don’t tell me today, it’ll keep me up all night," Tie Mu said, clearly troubled by Luan Fei’s words.

Chu Feng looked at the straightforward Tie Mu and, a bit speechless, patted Han Chunsheng, who was studying the military training regulations, saying, "Explain to this blockhead whether I was being generous or didn’t want to embarrass myself, and also if I saw it as a chance to gain the instructor’s goodwill and earn some credits on the side."

Han Chunsheng looked up at Tie Mu and commented, "This blockhead needs to learn on his own. Let him stay up all night and think about it."

"Are you two trying to drive me crazy!" Tie Mu was beside himself with anxiety because of how Chu Feng and Han Chunsheng were responding.

"Look here, you dimwit. People say you’re dumb, and you really play the part. Didn’t you see how our instructor’s eyes lit up when he looked at you? Sure, they’re instructors, but they also compete in secret. Chu Feng also performed well, but how could he make the same impact as you, the mighty behemoth? The instructor already had his favorite, and that was you. As for Chu Feng, he figured that out and took the initiative, grabbing a good impression for himself. And he conveniently snatched up those credits too," Qi Houbo, unable to watch any longer, stood up to explain.

After hearing Qi Houbo’s explanation, Tie Mu felt it made sense and chuckled, saying, "Does seem so, huh."

Slapping his forehead, Qi Houbo exclaimed, "Please behave a bit smarter tomorrow. Otherwise, the girl who’s starting to like you will be turned off by your foolishness."

After Qi Houbo finished speaking, the four of them looked at each other and burst out laughing.
