Chapter 64: Even-3

’Block it! Block it! Block it! Do something, dummy!’ Those were Ral’s thoughts as he came down towards Kaleb, who had now stretched out his arms. It was as if his awaited end had approached, the heavens opening up its gates to receive him— though he surely wasn’t heading there.

*SWOOSH!

"Eh?" Diz felt a gust of wind go right past them, as looking up, they could see a sword heading straight for Ral.

*BANG!

Meters up in the sky, Ral was hit— at least his sword was, considering the big bang being heard[not the theory]. As with a heavy crush, Ral slammed a bit behind the archer types, immersing himself in one of the bloody remains of the halved stallions.

"Who dares to attack my brother?!" A voice resounded throughout the area, one filled with aura. The neighing of a horse followed after as behind Diz and the knights around him were two mounts.

"LORD REGENT!" All the Knights around immediately went on one knee, the archer types going first as they clasped their hands and had their faces down.

’Regent?’ The words sunk through his skull and finally into his mind, causing him to turn in the direction of the voice.

"Vans?"

"Grandpaaaa!!!" A tiny high-pitched and ear-piercing voice resounded throughout, everyone instantly covering their ears except one person— Lo-an.

"Grandpa! Grandpa! Grandpa! I want to go to Grandpa!" Alicia insisted, even trying to get down the horse by herself.

"Calm down you." Mia said, turning to look at her husband who raised an eyebrow, exhaled then dismounted.

"Come here little one." Vans helped her small framed body off the horse, happily getting onto the floor, her legs alre running in the air. As touching down, she was off in seconds.

"Wait?" Mia called out to her while dismounting also, yet Alicia was much farther from having brakes at this stage.

All watching as she zoomed passed them, not affected by the gruesome sight of the horses and blood sprayed around the knights. Diz watched dumbfoundedly, one of the knights near him managed to voice something. "Kaleb got a bastard?"

"No fool, can’t you see the resemblance," Diz replied.

"Of course, apart from the hair colour and eyes—"

"I meant— just shut up."

"You meant—"

*WHACK!

The knight fell unconscious on the ground with a hit at a certain pressure point around his head.

’So annoying these days.’

"Grandpa, Grandpa, Grandpa." Alicia kept on muttering, running in her red cloak with her hands in the air behind her.

"Rae!" The horse, noticing her whined cheerfully in response as she dashed past it.

’Why is she here?’ Lo-an questioned, a puzzled look worn up his face, the earlier furnace of rage and aura nowhere to be seen. "Hah!" He noticed he was still holding Tav’s head, quickly hiding at his back.

"Grandpa!" Alicia exclaimed cheerfully, leaping into the air towards him when—

*THUD!

’Wasn’t that intentional?’ She had landed a meter away, face flat on the ground. Raising her head, her eyes met with his and noticing no reaction, she clearly shifted into another mode.

"Owwie! Waaaaaah! It hurts! It hurts! Grandpaa!"

"Girl, you know you should have removed that necklace before that— it would have been much more realistic instead," Lo-an stated sarcastically.

"Waaah! Waaah! Waaah! You really wanted me to get hurt! Waaah!."

’Now I have to be the one apologizing to her— what if they were two of these? Where’s her quiet friend to handle her?’

"Grandpa is sorry, okay." Lo-an said, yet she didn’t calm down but rather seemed to get worser instead.

"Waaah! Waaah! Grandpaa! Waaah!"

Lo-an knew the difference between when something was real and when one was fake— this not being the latter instead. "What happened, Alicia?" Working magic, as usual, his embrace had her tears subsiding in seconds.

*SNIFFLE!

*SNIFFLE!

Sobbingly, she finally spoke. "Grandpa, it’d Karen— she– she’s dead."

"What’s going on here Diz?" Vans questioned as he approached them, Mia innocently following behind with the basket in hand.

"My Lord, Sir Kaleb had ordered for the Wizard to—"

*BANG!

*CRACK!

Diz helmet shattered, he himself having thought it had been a his skull for a while second there. "Use such a word again and it wouldn’t be your be your helmet next time."

"Yes– yes My Lord." Releasing his grip from him, Vans continued on his way shouting out his orders to them. "Head back to the Mansion— All of you!"

"Yes, Lord Regent!"

"No one leaves here without my command?!" Kaleb’s voice was heard loudly, the numbness fading off as he stood on his feet.

"And who are you?"

Kaleb was caught off guard by his words, it made no sense as that wasn’t it goal— having hit Vans’s favourite nerve of his brother.

"Are you Lord Elmore? Are you the Lord Protector?" Vans had his eyes glued to it, as not seeing the usual calm in the storm but rather dead eye poker face, did well to intimidate.

"Tell me, little brother." His words, the use of ’little’ made him look like an ant before a human, one to be crushed or shaken off at any moment. "Are you the successor?"

"I- I- I have the token." Kaleb stuttered, bringing out an Eagles token out of his storage ring.

*SNAP!

*AAAAHHH!

He didn’t know when Vans who was meters away had reached him, yet all he knew and felt as he yelled out was that his hand had been snapped. "Better go hide away in that fancy palace of your’s. For what you’ve done, even Father wouldn’t be able to save you."

"Ouch."

’Did I get knocked out? That seems pretty obvious.’ Ral sat up with his hands on his throbbing head.

"I remember being att— huh" Half a meter to his left, he could see the sword he’d attacked beside him. Surprised by the fact that it had been broken into two, another larger sword had seemingly done that.

"Tot!" He noticed one of the Archer Types standing a distance away, his first call not drawing his attention while the second did.

"Tell me, what happened?" Ral inquired.

"You were attacked..." Tot paused to catch a fraction of his breath, having run to him, only piquing his curiosity.

"By the Lord Regent."

"Vans Elmore? Where’s he now?" Ral asked, getting up on his feet yet failing to, the attack having been quite deadly. ’He’s a hunter, of course, I was probably taken as a threat than I’d expected to be.’

"Haa, at least I don’t think anyone would be getting killed here— forgive me, Master." Ral relaxed back on the ground, opening up his core to slowly draw in spiritual energy around.

"What– what are you talking about?" The fright on Kaleb’s face upon having their father brought into context was priceless.

"You dared to touch someone from the Union— you’d be better off dead than alive."
