Chapter 65: Even-4

’The Union? Which Union?!’

A frown appeared on Kaleb’s face. "You think I would be afraid of some bloody guild— who do take me for?? I’m a roya—"

*WHAM!

*BAM!

"Ouch, that should have hurt." One of the knights commented as a slap from Vans had sent Kaleb slamming into the ground, knocking him out in the process.

’Haa, I always wanted to do that one way or the other.’ He had a satisfied look on his face. "Come grab your so-called superior and royal knights." He ordered, the Archer Types on the move towards him.

"Master, please," Mia said, placing a basket of food before him, as he held Alicia in a warm embrace.

"Thanks Mia, I’d been quite hungry." Lo-an’s voice was unlike his usual witty one, being quite sombre and sorrowful.

"She’s a lovely one there," Mia said, her hands going to brush back Alicia’s gray hair as she was fast asleep.

"It troubles her to have lost a friend— she was like a sister to her, Karen was her name I think," Lo-an informed, Mia’s expression changing a bit to a colder one before reverting.

"Yannah’s daughter." She mumbled.

"You knew her?" Lo-an seemed surprised. "Such a small world we live in."

"If we had listened to you, she would have died and be left there to rot in the forest." Just then his eyes widened with his iris shrinking, as he’d realized and understood what she meant and had transpired— he was a Runer of course.

"I see. My apologies for earlier. I didn’t want to draw any attention by getting involved— you should understand my situation."

"Tav? Isn’t this one of Kaleb’s personal unit members?" Vans startled voice was heard from behind them. "Who did this?" He bellowed to the knights busily working away on the pathway to clear up the bodies of the dead horses.

"Your dear brother did, Vans. Be glad you made it in time, else he would have been another corpse." Lo-an stated, a tint of anger in his voice as he continued his words with his tone calm a bit. "But, this bastard of mine took six lives, he deserved it and since I’d also failed to use my power to have saved a mere child— I’ll consider us even here."

"Thank you for your consideration Master, please do have something to eat, especially that sandwich. It’s a serious meal that I’d recommen..." Vans voice trailed off, noticing his wife glaring straight at him. "Um, I think I’d help out the knights. Do please enjoy your meal."

"Master, do return to the mansion with us for a few —"

"No, I’m not heading back there," Lo-an stated firmly, considering it out of question.

"If not your safety, please do consider that of Alicia— Tilon isn’t safe for her now and arrangements must be made to bring her mother along too."

"Mother? Alicia has no parents."

Mia felt like a bombshell had been dropped down on her head upon hearing the words of the other.

"What?! How’s that even possible?"

Back in the Elmore Mansion, in a black gown Belle could be seen skipping happily as she held a tray of food in her hands.

"Heh, I’m so strong. They thought I couldn’t carry a simple tray of food." She smirked, satisfied at her own feats she’d achieved.

"One day, I’ll be as strong as Uncle Vans— father is so so weak. He gets beaten and bullied by uncle so easily. Hmm, I wonder how safe King Crane is."

Reaching the double doors leading into the dining hall, she was about kicking it open when a voice blasted out of the room.

It was feminine, one familiar which had been heard in a very long while yet was recognized immediately. "Mother?"

*BANG!

*BAM!

The doors flew open with a side kick from her, dashing inside with the tray afterwards. "MOTHER?!"

She stood there, her eyes scanning the room to get what was going on, all eyes on her. She could see Bella startled like herself, Zlatan seemingly confused and Jaisal having his hands behind him while in a defensive stance.

Clara, her mother on the other hand recovering from almost screaming her head off, turned towards Belle. Her eyes, were barely being seen with her hair covering her face, her white gown adding up to it as it wouldn’t have been an interesting sight at night.

"Little birdie birdie?! Come to momma." Clara’s demeanor suddenly changed, her voice soft, calm and angelic as she called out to her. Everyone being startled and taken aback by her words.

"Don’t lis—"

"Grrr!!" Clara growled at him, as it caused him to take another half-step back, drawing out the weapon further from its hold than before.

"Mother?" Belle muttered, her eyes widened and locked on the face of the other as she took one step at a time.

"You remember me mother?" Clara still on all fours, nodded softly, a wide smile being seen up her face despite the covering of her hair.

"Come to momma little birdie-birdie."

’What happened to her?’ Zlatan thought, still trying as hard as he could to recall something about her— however, it only seemed to be the first time seeing her.

*SOB!

*SOB!

He could hear someone crying, and turning behind it was obvious who it was. "Hey, it’s alright. Tell me what’s wrong, Bella." Zlatan got off his seat easily, as he hadn’t gotten used to feeling its one-tonness yet. Reaching his younger sister, he turned her wheelchair to face him, still sobbing.

*SNIFFLE!

"Big brother, it’s mommy. She’s still... not feeling well, I...don’t like... to see her like that." Bella stated, her eyes soaked with tears.

’Not feeling well, that wasn’t the case.’ Zlatan thought to himself.

’There were only two possibilities to her condition— it was either a soul bind or soul swap. A result of someone using dark runes on her, only something similar and opposite could cure her.’

"It’s alright, she’d been okay." Zlatan assured, glancing back at her, he quickly embraced Bella with his hands covering up her eyes.

*BANG!

*THUD!

"Little birdie..." Clara’s voice faded away, along with her consciousness as she had fallen off onto the ground.

"Go to sleep now mother, you need it." Belle mumbled, a battered up metal tray in hand with it’s previous contents deposited on the floor a distance behind.

’What’s up with her and metal trays?’ Jaisal wondered, finally calming down and letting go of his hidden blade.

"Why did you do that Belle, I wanted to speak with her."

"Huh, nooo. I won’t let you steal my mommy too!"

"Eh?"

*************

"Dan, weren’t you always yabbing about becoming a Runer like me— what happened?" Lo-an turned towards him, Dan’s eyes widening for a second. It wasn’t like he didn’t expect such a question to come. He even thought he’d pounce on him with it, the moment he saw him.

"Master, I- I..."

"Stop stuttering and speak like the bastard you are!"

"I’m sorry Master, I was afraid to be alone." He confessed, not daring to raise his tone for a second.

"I see, well done."

’What, he’s congratulating me for that— but?’

"With a bronze aura you’d have been simply bullied there."

"Whaaat?! How, that’s just below silver?!"

*WHACK!

"Silver auras are same trash as those below, you wouldn’t even earn a Runers Eye. Hah, this Bastard."

"You didn’t have to hit me to tell me that one." He retorted, rubbing his forehead when—

*WHACK!

"Mmmph!" Dan winced, pressing his lips close at the stinging sensation he could feel once again.

’Better I’d shut up instead— I can bear the pain, I’m a knight now. But why does it hurt just like before, did he get stronger.’

*OUUUUCH!!

*KWAK-KWAK-KWAK!

The birds could be heard flying out of the forest from the sudden yell.

"Still, I’ll fulfill your dream of becoming a Runer." Lo-an stated, arms folded up.

"Really Master!" His eyes glimmered, as he didn’t have a single thought of it being impossible, he’d seen his Master do farther things than the word impossible.

"Yeah yeah. I’m giving you this, with it you’re set to become a Runer in no time."

"Whoa! Thank you, Master!"

*****************

’With Master’s storage ring there might be something to teach me about a taboo scroll.’ Dan thought as he sat beside a table in the stable’s cabin where he lived. "Are they naturally blank?"

To the corner of the room, two armour sets could be seen, both white and gold, belonging to him and Colin.

On the bed right beside where he sat, Colin laid there still unconscious from the previous shock. After all, a knight found to have a scroll was an offence which one could get around. But a Taboo Scroll was much more than an offence— it was a death sentence.

Holding the ring, he skimmed through its contents, his eyes widening future with each passing second.

’Goodness, what is this?’

A portal opened up a few meters above the table as pouring out were nothing but Scrolls— dark purple scrolls.

"Why would master give me these?!"
