Building My Guild With A Blank Scroll
Chapter 47: An Escape

Chapter 47: An Escape

"Argh, my head still hurts." The figure of a gray-haired, wrinkled-faced old man could be seen. He had his hands on his head, raising himself from the surface of the desk he slept on.

"Has she slept already?" His eyes scanned the room, finally stopping on the young girl who could be seen fast asleep on a bed of scrolls.

’She was harder to convince than Alicia— still two bothersome girls.’

*YAWWN!

He had pretended to sleep off, yet surfing on the river of sleep, he never expected to fall in and now the drowsiness still lingered behind.

’Knowledge sure was good, yet in such a young mind was simply cruel." He thought, recalling his conversation before he’d slept off — a real struggle he hadn’t faced in ages.

’It wasn’t as if I felt inferior to the child in her twenties, just because she knew more than me. Though that still did hit hard, being dumbfounded by the questions she threw at him.’

Done stretching, the old man in his overcoat stood up from the chair he sat on and silently walked towards the other to the right of the room. Reaching her, he patted her on the head, something he knew his granddaughter liked—and so all girls her age liked, according to him, of course.

"I hope your brother survives, I’m always not up for trouble and not one involving. I’m even with that troublesome woman, she could be a pain in the neck at times" He mumbled, turning and making his way towards the door.

’Now to get out of here, it should be quite easy unless other precautions have already been taken.’ He thought to himself, opening the door and stepping out of the room. His mind soon wandered back to before he’d been knocked out.

’Aura isn’t allowed in the mansion. I’ll give him that for being smart enough to use such childish stunts, at least it did get me a good sleep, with the headaches exempted of course.’ The old man looked from side to side, trying to recall where they’d taken to the study earlier.

Deciding to take the left, he confidently walked through the path, heading to an open area as he was on the first floor and at the north wing.

’If there’s anything fishy going on around here, the best case scenario is me not being related to it. The worst case scenario would be knowing something about it.’

Staring down at the ground floor, he noticed the guards below were still and also still. ’If anyone would sleep on the job, it would be Knights. Bet that’s why they don’t ever get the Rebels, they’ll be sleeping to death. Soft life seekers.’ He scoffed within at his own words.

Looking around, he had to leave before dawn, however, that was impossible without his mount and so it was the first on his list. But before that, finding out the location of the stables was essential for him to get away.

’Who to ask... ah, I didn’t know there was a guard right here. Ow, his lights are already out with the night.’ He realized someone standing to the side by the path he came from, drool already seeping out of his mouth as the guard managed to stand while fast asleep at the same time.

’Now do I wake him and ask or—’

"Master?"

"Huh?" Lo-an turned towards where the voice had come from, his eyes widening in surprise seeing who it was.

"Colin!" He exclaimed, his tone being audible and not overly loud to awaken the logs around.

"Master Lo-an, what brings you here?" Colin inquired, drawing closer with his dazzling brown eyes and coal-black hair being seen.

"Nothing much, just having a tea party from one noble to the other. Been a splendid experience so far, got knocked out a few times- hahahaa."

"Hah, your wits never get rusty, you’d hide under a rock than have any dealings with any noble families." The other retorted.

"Ah, you younglings sure knew me too well, what are you now?" He could see he wore full body armour, golden and white like the other guards did, having the sigil of NobleHouse Elmore carved out on it. A sword s

"A soft life seeker as you always say, Master."

"Haa." The old man exhaled deeply and then looked the other in the eye before he spoke. "Of all those I expected to disappoint me, you were the first and you didn’t disappoint with disappointing me. Well done."

"I was first at least," Colin remarked cheerfully, a grin on his face.

"Yes yes, the first you ever had."

"I’d need your help with something, Colin," Lo-an added, his tone changing into a much more serious one.

"Of course Master, I’d be glad to be of help." The other said without a second thought.

"Would you mind showing me where the stables are located?"

"Behind the gardens?"

"Yes, it’s a good distance away from the mansion. I could take you there of course."

"Don’t bother, It would be a simple quick grab then we’d be off back home.

"You’re leaving so soon? What about meeting the others?"

"Ral, Tav and Dan?" Colin mentioned the names familiar and brought back memories of the gray-haired old man.

"What, those bastards too are here— who in my last batch of students became a Runer?!" Lo-an was simply astonished.

"I could name a few, Jez, Xain and Onio."

"Onions became a Runer, good gracious I better send in a request to have his membership revoked."

"Hah, you’d better not. Last I heard he and had been wedlocked to one of the Eastern Continent RoyalHouses."

"What! That’s too much to take in, how did it happen? In fact, spare this old man the details."

Leading the way, still conversing Colin had taken a path through the gardens where he knew the guards never patrolled.

"Dan should be back at the camp. Wouldn’t you want to meet him, I remember back in the orphanage— always clinging to Master."

"Of course why wouldn’t I want to see him, he was my favourite after all. Such a good kid."

"Hahaha, wait till the others see you. They’ll be stunned. Ral especially would take to his heels."

"Ral had had a handful of my slaps back then, a handful with my hands—.hah."

Going past the gardens, the two stepped into the forestland, still chatting away as Colin showed him around.

"Do you people sleep? How’s here lively than back there?"

"Nobles just don’t like fun events, the maids and guards having fun is quite normal around here."

"Lucky yous eh, now let’s see Dan and then we head to the stables."

"No need, Dan is in charge of the stables. He’s always there, a replica of his Master."

"Hmm, let’s hope he is. Maybe a Runer in disguise."

"Not in that way– hahaha."

"Then in what wa- Oh you bastard, do I look like a horse dunk collector!" Chasing the other, they found themselves in the Guard Camp, heading towards the stables a distance away.
