Chapter 99: Major Developments

With the unexpected increase in the number of people that were in the village, the expansion plan was now very much needed.

The space that they had would be hardly able to house everyone, so Aric needed to start making some quick decisions.

He stood in front of the manor, looking at the Ogres that had responded to the call of their leader Ronan, male and female, all those that had decided to work, and their number was amazing.

"I know many of you have just come here, the day has been stressful to y’all and you have just come from a war in general.

Still, all of you need places to lay your heads, houses to keep you safe from the elements, and that is why we have called you here, to help in the expansion of the village.

I’m sure your prince has already told you that there will be benefits to you being here, and he was not lying.

If you aid us and give us your hundred percent, each of you will have a house built for you and your family. A place where you can stay safely."

The ogres erupted in a loud cheer when they heard that, it sounded too good to be true, but if he said he would, then what other choice did they have but to believe him.

Aric waited for them to stop cheering, and when they did, he continued talking.

"The goblins and the spirits are going to help you know what you need to know, and they will guide you in everything.

Now with that out of the way, I welcome all of you, and I hope that you can all make this into your home," Aric said and walked into the manor.

After he left, work immediately kick-started, Ron immediately divided them into teams. The plan was to remove the current walls, clear up most of the trees and build a network of similar-looking houses. But that was not all, as Aric had decided that they would also start working on the pipeline systems.

"Alright, you guys with me, let’s take out the walls," Lucas spoke to the goblins and Ogres that Ron had assigned to him.

"How do we do it? Do we just break it down?" a goblin asked.

"No, we can’t do that, the wood is still very useful, it would be best if we removed them properly. The goblins are to work on removing the woods, cutting through the glue and removing the nails.

You have to make sure that the wood comes out clean, you stack them up and the Ogres take them back to camp to store.

We have to move fast because Ron and the rest will not be able to make proper mappings for the houses if the wall is still there," he explained.

The goblins did as he said, they got all the tools that they would need and immediately got to work. In less than a minute, the wood was starting to pile up.

The ogres got right into their jobs as well, they took the planks back to the village and stacked it close to the manor.

Their speed was outstanding, and in only a few minutes, the wall had already started vanishing. Lucas watched the walls go, a small smile crept up on his face, he remembered when Aric had built this wall, not too long ago, yet already it was coming down to open ways for better advancement.

It gave him a sense of happiness and accomplishment, knowing that he had been here since the start.

Ron gathered a small team of goblins, all of them were armed, in full metal armor and swords on their sides, they stood at attention, waiting for Ron to speak.

Gorin stood behind Ron, watching quietly and not saying a word.

"Alright, you ten are the hunt team from today, you are in charge of resource gathering and also hunting food.

Today, you’ll be heading into the forest with Gorin, he’ll be in charge of you. There are a lot of mouths to feed today, so try your best to bring back enough," Ron said.

"Yes sir," the ten replied in unison.

"Alright, let’s head out," Gorin said and walked forward, heading out of the village. His massive sword hung on his back.

It was already noon at this point, and there were a lot of mouths to feed, they had to move fast and gather what needed to be gathered.

There wasn’t too much panic on the regard of food though, as the first harvest had come in, Elisa and the goblins were gathering the harvest into small heaps.

Elisa casually walked up to Ron, she bowed her head slightly in a greeting, she stood close to him but far enough to be out of his arms’ reach, her trauma with goblins subconsciously showed.

"Ron, we need a storehouse to keep the harvest, I’m sorry, I didn’t tell you earlier, I didn’t think it would be harvest today, I expected a few more days, but it seems Master Aric’s spell works better than imagined," she explained.

"A storehouse? I understand that, but we can’t rush one, we will have to talk to Master to know what type he would want, a simple small one or something large to last a long time.

I suggest that you use a room in the manor for the meantime, and tomorrow, we will start working on a storehouse," Ron said.

"That works, thank you," she said and walked away.

Ron already had so much to do and the jobs kept piling, there was no way he was going to fit a storehouse into today’s schedule.

He glanced over at Lucas to see how far the wall had come, and he was shocked by their speed, it was astonishing, they would be done in no time.

"I should start getting bricks ready," Gorin said, he looked around trying to find Quadoris, but he couldn’t see him.

"I’m guessing you were looking for me," Quadoris spoke behind Ron, giving him a fright. Ron jumped and turned around, his arms already set in a fighting stance.

When he saw that it was Quadoris, his fears dropped, and his arms’ strained skin slightly let up. "Ho... how did you get behind me?" Ron asked.

"Well I was sitting on the roof and looking down at everything, and then I heard you speak of bricks, so I came down," Quadoris said.

"Sigh... you spirits are eccentric. Well, I was looking for you indeed.

I was thinking, rather than that brick that Master showed us, why not carved stones? Stones carved up to look like bricks," Ron said.

"This is your decision, not what Master asked for, right?" Quadoris asked.

"No, he only gave me the base templates to work with, but he allowed for me to make creative decisions, just like I’m doing right now," Ron said.

"Oh, okay, that’s fine then. So how much carved stones do you want?" Quadoris asked.

"As much as you can, you can make them behind the manor, there’s a lot of untouched space there," Ron said.

"Alright then, I’ll get to making them now," Quadoris said. The ground underneath him broke out and flew him up to the roof again, he dropped down from the boulder, allowing it to fall to the ground.

He walked on the roof and got to the back before jumping down, he crackled his knuckles slowly, "Time to get down to business."

[....]

Ron had left Gunam in charge of clearing more space, a job that required cutting down several trees. But that was no longer an issue, because now they had the ogres, and with them cutting down and carrying the trees wouldn’t be too hard.

After all, the average Ogre was stronger than even a hobgoblin by a large margin.

"Alright, we need to cut down the trees, and also dig out their roots to clear space. For now, we will focus on hacking down the trees and getting them back to the village.

We have a lot of ground to cover, because we have to do this in all directions of the village and even across the stream, and that’s why there are more of us than any other group now.

We have to work fast because the trees will be used to build the new homes, we are already running out of daylight, so no time to waste," Gunam said.

The goblins went ahead to get the tools that they would need for cutting down the trees. They brought enough for the ogres as well, and without much waste of time, they got to work, clearing the forest that was around them.

They moved at a stunning speed, and if they kept it up, they were sure to clear up a massive space before the day was over.

Gunam watched as they moved, with a smile, he picked up an axe as well and got to it.
