Chapter 91: You have to learn

The warm glow of the torches in the wall flickered, casting a warm glow over the room. Everyone was already seated around the table, all waiting for Aric.

His footsteps as he walked into the room pulled their attention. With Elisa and Gorin behind him, he walked in. His eyes lingered on the torches on the wall; he frowned.

It was not that he realized that he had failed to provide good lighting, and they were stuck using this method. But this was in no way true or proper. They would need to start making lamps, and that would require him to make glass.

He pulled his gaze away from the force and walked to his chair. Elisa pulled her chair out and sat down, while Aric stood beside his chair, with Gorin standing behind him.

"Before we commence this meeting, I’d like all of you to meet Gorin. You might have all seen him, but this is the first time outside a fight that you are seeing him.

Going forward, Gorin will be in charge of our military force here. He’ll train and watch anyone that is part of the fighting force here.

I want you all to put aside whatever differences may exist and accept him as an equal," Aric said.

The table fell quiet, so much that the creaking of insects outside sounded loud.

"If you have decided that he is worth trusting, then I don’t see why not, Master," Unara said.

"I would have loved to counter what Unara said, but I’ve seen his strength and I know he’ll make a great addition," Pentharis said.

Everyone around the table agreed to his joining. Gorin felt like a weight had been taken off his heart; he had not felt this amount of pressure, even when he stood before his master.

"Good, now since everyone has agreed on that, let’s move to the things I called you here for," Aric said. He pulled his chair out, dragging it along the floor, making a low scraping sound.

He sat down, placed his elbows on the table and spoke. "Ariel, what’s the first issue?" he asked casually.

"Well, the first issue is the naming of our village. This information is very important, and none of you at the table are to let anyone else know until the designated date.

Aric has decided that this place needs a name, and he has decided on the name. Henceforth, it will be called Terra," Ariel said.

"Terra? What’s that?" Duvalis asked.

"That’s a long story on its own, and sadly we don’t have the time to delve into it now. Just know that it’s one of Aric’s names. Now, like I have said before, you can’t tell the name to anyone that wasn’t here.

We will use this opportunity to create the first festival of Terra, as we give it its official name," Ariel said casually. She then glanced at Aric. Aric nodded and got up.

"I know this might sound harsh when I say it," Aric started. He slowly walked around the table, running his fingers along the back of their chairs as he walked.

"I know you have all done so, so much in the past few days for the development of Terra, but honestly, we haven’t done all that much.

We have focused our energy on things like building and walls and weapons, but there is so much more for us to do, and we need to start doing them," he said, then walked to the torch on the wall.

"This should not be on a wall inside a house, it is for outside. We need lamps, we need other means of light. Now, I’m not saying you haven’t done enough, but I’m simply saying that everyone is going to be working more in the few days.

I want Terra to look different by the time we have the festival, but I can’t teach you all this alone. It’s going to kill me if I tried.

But I can create the materials for you, and I’m not talking about books alone. I’m talking about visual aids that will teach you all what you need to know.

I had the idea to do this a while back. It will speed up everything, but that being said, it’s really very expensive and costly for me to make, so you’ll all need to promise me that with what I’ll give you, you’ll put your heart down into learning.

And then, even with that, you must all still learn how to read and write. There are millions and millions of things you could learn and know with the help of books, and also I can’t afford to turn everything into visuals for you," Aric explained. He walked back to his seat and sat down.

He knew that the best way for him to take the village forward was to offer them knowledge and information, to make them far more innovative than they already are.

So with the help of the system, he would create knowledge from his old world and merge it together with the things from this world to make it seem different.

He didn’t just want to copy everything from Earth and bring it here, when he could create something better and far more advanced, with magic and technology combined.

Having lights powered by mana, or clothes infused with mana for protection, the potential was limitless, and with the help of the system he could do everything. All he needed was the manpower to do it, and he had that here.

"Also, the spirits—I believe that there is more to your abilities, untapped potential. I feel like simply creating what your affinity is isn’t enough.

I told Ariel that it was possible for you guys to do a lot, like Pentharis, creating gold or copper, or some other metals.

I know it’s out of the blue, Pentharis, but you have the most pressure to learn how to do it because we already promised the Baron that you can provide spirit gold," Aric said, with an unapologetic grin on his face.
