Chapter 90: Two True Names
What Elisa said was true, Aric realized that he had focused only on development and building, but he didn’t even have a name for the place.
He leaned back into his chair, the front legs lifted off the ground, he used his fingers to rub his chin. "Hmmmm, a name, a name."
He thought about it for a few seconds, and then—Bam—he pushed the chair forward, hitting the ground and startling everyone.
"I think I have a good idea. Let’s call it Terra, the village of Terra, the kingdom of Terra. It fits," Aric said.
"Terra? Why Terra?" Ariel asked.
"Oh yeah, my true name is Aric Terra," Aric said. He thought saying that would be enough explanation, but it only led to a string of more questions.
"Aric, why do you have two true names?" Ariel asked. She walked to the table, staring at him, her eyes piercing into his soul.
"Isn’t that something normal?" he asked, looking around the table for confirmation, but even Gorin shook his head.
"Two true names, it’s a double-edged sword. A family name isn’t a true name, you can be called Aric and Terra could be your surname, but for both to be your true names and not be one word, that’s a different issue.
The being that gave you a second true name needed to be extremely powerful to do that. If any random person tries to pile two true names on one person, he stands the risk of a very brutal backlash.
The second issue with it is that the person receiving the second true name is standing the high risk of his soul shattering into nothing.
That’s why it is shocking that you have two true names," Ariel said.
Aric felt sweat trickle down his back as he heard all she said; he could have died because of a name.
"Uhmm, Ariel, all you have said now had the bad sides of the second name, is there no benefit to having a second true name?" Aric asked.
"Well, there have been very few people that have had two true names, and those few people are legends and myths.
All I know is that within the second name is a special ability that you’ll awaken. That’s all I know," she responded.
Aric placed his elbow on the table and clasped his hands together. He let out a heavy breath. "I don’t know how I survived it, but I did," he said, then looked up at Ariel.
"All that aside, Terra works, right?" he asked.
"It seems nice," Elisa said.
"I like it as well," Ariel responded. "But we can’t simply just go out and tell everyone we have a name. If we are getting a name, that means we are a fully functional community now.
And that’s something worth celebrating, so our first festival will be on the day we name the village. A full ceremony to announce our presence here.
It’s likely that it will also pull the attention of other races inside the forest, so we have to prepare for it," Ariel said.
"Hmm, this seems like something that will need a lot of discussion. We might need a table meeting," Aric suggested.
"True, I’ll call the others to the table," Ariel said eagerly. She got up from her chair, walking briskly out of the room, leaving Gorin and Elisa.
Elisa walked to the chair and sat down where Ariel had been. She placed her hands on the table, with her fingers interlocked.
"Aric, you spoke to me about making clothes. When do you plan to teach me?" she asked.
"Hmm, that’s true," Aric said. He drummed his fingers on the table as he started going through the system to get some information.
After checking what he needed to check, he stopped drumming his fingers, allowing his palms to lie flat on the table.
"When it comes to cloth making, there’s a lot to learn, Elisa. The first issue is the making of the fabric, which is the first thing you’ll need to learn.
To make fabric, you’ll need some materials from both plants and animals to create different types," Aric said.
"Plants? Is it any of the ones we have on the farm?" she asked.
"Nope, we don’t have any of them yet, but tomorrow we will work on it. We need plants like cotton, flax, hemp, and jute.
So we need a farm for them, because with them we can start producing some fabric. As for the animals, we need something like a sheep. Hopefully, I’ll get some when I go to the town that baron is from," Aric said.
"You plan to go to the town yourself? Humans don’t like elves, and especially a half-elf like you," Elisa said. Her worry showed on her face.
"You don’t have to worry about that, you’ll probably be with me and I’ll also be disguised. But that aside, let’s get back to the fabric making.
There are a lot of techniques and patterns you need to learn, but if you are fully ready for it, I’ll provide everything that you’ll need to do it," Aric said, his lips curled up into a bright smile.
"I’m ready for it, whatever it takes to learn it," she responded instantly and eagerly, leaning over on the table as she spoke.
"Then that’s good," Aric responded.
"Uhmm, Sir Aric," Gorin spoke in a low tone, his eyes looking down at the table.
"Gorin, what’s wrong?" Aric asked.
"I want to ask if I can also learn to make clothes like she is," he asked, his voice getting quieter with each word.
Aric could tell that Gorin felt weird asking to learn something like this, so Aric decided to make him feel better.
"Of course, I would be happy if you did. In fact, you don’t have a choice anymore; you’ll learn from Elisa as she learns as well," Aric said.
Gorin’s eyes lit up. His head raised, he looked at Aric with eyes that asked, Are you serious? Aric simply nodded in response.
The door of the office opened and Ariel walked in. "I’ve gotten everyone," she said.
