Chapter 59: Making Plans part 2

As for the origins of the book, well, Aric had used the system to get the encyclopedia. There was nothing the system didn’t have; all he had to do was search for it and pay. Shockingly, it only cost him about 1000 gold, which is a good price for the knowledge that he would be getting.

"Ariel, Elisa, I need the both of you to really study the encyclopedia, hopefully as fast as possible. You’ll both need to be the ones to guide the farm.

I would have done it myself, but I realize that I can’t be at multiple places at once, so it’s better I start delegating more," Aric said. He glanced at Pentharis as he spoke.

"Now that the farming issue is out of the way, let’s turn our attention to the incoming battle. I had a little one-on-one time with the goblins we captured, and I got some useful information from them.

For one, it’s not the entire force of the forest terror that will be headed for us—it is a fraction. I don’t know if it is a probe or they underestimate us, but I see this as an opportunity for growth," Aric said.

"Huh? What do you mean, growth?" Ariel asked.

"Well, you see, the goblins are not working for the terror of their own free will. It’s more of a forced contract," Aric said. He took out the mana crystal and placed it on the table.

"That’s a mana crystal," Elisa said immediately as she saw it.

"Yes, that is what it is. Now, I don’t know how, but the terror managed to have some crude method of taking that used this crystal as a seal.

If the crystal is removed, the goblins are free. Now, I’m just guessing here, but I think some of the goblins will want to, or be willing to, be with us and fight against the terror for vengeance.

And before you say I want to risk this on a gamble, I want you to understand that the goblins, according to what the one I met with said, have been through torment all their life. They all hate the terror," Aric said.

"So what you are saying is that you want to capture and not kill," Unara simplified his intention.

"Yes, basically, that is what I meant," Aric said.

"That’s risky," Pentharis said, pulling all the attention to him. "What if it is a plan? A plan to get you to lower your guard and accept them, and then they take you down from the inside?" he said. His words made a lot of sense and made everyone think about it properly.

"I doubt that will be the case," Ron spoke. "I want to vouch for them," he added.

"On what grounds? Do you know something we don’t?" Aric asked.

"What I will say is pure speculation, Master. Goblins are entirely speculation and feeling, but I can tell that the goblins told the truth.

But if you wish to verify, there is an easy way, Master. You just have to take them, and if they resist you, then you know something is wrong. Else, you know that you have allies now," Ron explained.

"I didn’t think of that. Thank you," Aric said, and Ron gave a small bow.

"Ron’s suggestion is what we needed. I just have to offer to tame them. If they refuse, we know they are enemies. If they accept, then all is settled," Aric said.

"That means we are planning to capture them, so please, how do we do that?" Unara asked.

"Well, for the most part of it, I’ll be needing the spirits tonight. We will be laying traps. Firstly, I will be needing Quadoris. You will be a first and last line of defense.

I don’t know how much you can do, but I’ll need a very, very deep moat. It’s a gutter that surrounds here entirely. It has to be at least ten feet deep or more, with steep walls to stop climbing.

I don’t know how possible that will be for you. I can make changes if you aren’t able to do it," Aric said.

"Have a little more faith in a higher spirit, Master. It won’t be an issue at all. I’ll finish it before the sun is up, maybe even faster," Quadoris said.

Aric smiled when he heard that. With that alone, he would be able to make everything else work. "Alright then, but that’s only the first part. You will be working with Septa. She will fill up the moat that you make with water close to half.

Now, some goblins have crazy physical abilities and might be able to jump out of a ten-foot hole without issue. But when water is introduced, they don’t have a platform to jump off from.

The walls will also be sticky and wet, making it impossible for climbing," Aric explained his thoughts.

Septa raised her hand to signal she wanted to speak.

"Septa, you have something to add?" Aric asked.

"I wanted to say, rather than leave it as water, why not make it into a muddy fluid that allows you to sink inside and is hard to get out from?

Using your plan, they won’t be able to jump out and will be completely stuck there," she said.

Aric’s eyes brightened at the idea. "Septa, you are a freaking genius," he complimented her.

"You should be thinking about all this yourself," Pentharis said.

"If you don’t have anything to add, go away," Aric said, not having time for him now. Pentharis shot Aric a cold look and then looked away.

"But how do you plan to hide such a hole? If you leave it open, they would not just run into it," Elisa said.

"Yup, and we have two solutions for that. The first one still boils down to Quadoris. He will create a thin layer of earth over the moat to hide it.

It has to be so thin that the weight of an average goblin would collapse it. With that in mind, we have to ensure that not one goblin makes it to the moat alone. It has to be all or as many as possible at once."
