Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 113: Go with them
Chapter 113: Go with them
Ethan heard Draven’s words and swiftly turned to face them. He patted down his clothes and retrieved a small bottle from his pocket. Inside was a white liquid that had a slightly grayish color. "I have a potion that can stop the pain," Ethan explained urgently. "Although it won’t cure it, it will numb the pain and make it’s scar less visible when it heals. You can drink it." His gaze fell upon the raw flesh on Rhea’s cheek, his heart sank as he observed the wound. The flesh appeared inflamed and tender, causing him to feel a surge of sympathy towards her.
Draven gently lifted Rhea’s chin to examine the deep cut, his expression turning into a worried frown. "Wounds caused by these swords take a long time to heal. Even if they do heal, they will leave behind a red scar," Draven commented with a grave tone. For some reason, the more he looked at the wound, the more enraged he felt and the more he wished he’d completely ruined Oriana’s face.
Meanwhile, Rhea pulled her chin away from his grip and rested her head back on his chest while dismissively saying, "Who cares about some scar, I just want the pain to go away. As long as I can eat and sleep without any pain, I don’t care if it leaves a scar behind on my face."
Draven’s frown deepened as he remarked, "You don’t care? You’re just going to let it leave a permanent mark and serve as a constant reminder of your defeat against that woman?" He added coldly, "Every time you look in the mirror, you’ll be reminded of it, and if someone asks about the scar, you’ll admit to being defeated?"
Rhea remained silent for a moment, realizing he was right. "Damn it, I don’t want a scar!" she suddenly exclaimed, pushing herself away from his chest. While a scar itself wasn’t a big concern for her, the idea of it symbolizing humiliation was something she wanted to avoid. What if she had children in the future and they asked ’mama how did you get that scar’? Then what was she going to tell them? Was she going to tell them ’my enemy defeated me and chopped off my cheek?’
Not that she had any plans to settle down or have children, but just the thought made her frustrated. Why was she even thinking about children when her priority should be finding a way to prevent this wound from leaving a permanent scar? She internally chastised herself.
Without hesitation, Rhea snatched the small bottle from Ethan’s hand, popped off the cap, tipped back her head and drank it all up, it’s bitter flavor instantly filled her mouth. She swallowed it, and endured the after taste in her mouth. She suddenly felt bitterness in her heart, bitterness that wasn’t due to potion but due to her defeat against Oriana.
Even though Draven had retaliated by ruining Oriana’s face, Rhea found no satisfaction in that alone. The memory of Oriana’s smug smile only intensified her desire to face her in battle once more. Nevertheless, even if Oriana hadn’t inflicted a cut on her cheek, Rhea understood that her chances of winning against her were slim. Oriana possessed books on flame magic and the support of her aunt, enabling her to grow more powerful at any time.
In contrast, Rhea lacked any magic of her own aside from the core’s abilities, not to mention a book to study. She had no one to offer guidance...
Thinking of this, Rhea halted. Then she glanced up at Draven, only to find that he too had been gazing at her, and their gazes locked. She could see her reflection in his crystal-clear blue eyes. She cleared her throat and posed the question she desired to ask, "Is there a method by which I can activate my fire magic?" Considering he had mentioned that she possessed flame magic, but due to his core, she was unable to utilize them. However, perhaps there was a solution to...
"No," Draven’s chilly response interrupted her train of thought, "There is no possibility." He retorted abruptly. Even if a solution did exist, he would never wish for Rhea to possess fire magic and become a part of those mindless fire controllers.
"Then teach me how to use the dragon powers." She said resolutely.
Draven raised an eyebrow, "You want to change your human bones and be a dragon?" He questioned.
Rhea frowned, "Changing my bones and race is too painful and dangerous." She declined the idea without a second thought, "I don’t want to change my race, just teach me how to master the powers."
Ethan, who heard Rhea’s words interjected, "You can never use the dragon powers if you don’t change your race. You are a human, to be able to possess a dragon ability, you need to change everything about yourself."
"I don’t want to. Draven has a way to teach me," Rhea quickly interrupted, although she realized he was correct. If she were human, she wouldn’t be able to use the dragon powers. However, Ethan didn’t know that she possessed the most powerful dragon core within her body, allowing her to use the ability without changing her bones. Additionally, with Draven as her guardian, she could fully master the art of ice magic.
Nevertheless, Draven neither agreed nor disagreed to teach her; he simply remained silent. Yet, Rhea interpreted his silence as a positive response.
Ethan wanted to persuade her to embrace the dragon race, but when he saw Rhea rest her head on Draven’s chest and close her eyes, he stopped himself. However, he couldn’t help but ask, "So, are you coming back to the dragon realm with us?" Hope crystal clear in his voice.
Rhea’s eyes immediately flew open upon hearing that question. She moved away from Draven’s chest again. She hadn’t thought about this the whole time. She recalled that she was going to part ways with Draven and go far away so she wouldn’t get entangled in the conflict, nor in Draven’s revenge.
But then those fire controllers and her stepsisters just had to show up and ruin everything for her. And now, she had gotten more entangled in everything even more!
"The fire controllers have all the evidence to take you as a traitor." Draven reminded.
Rhea silently agreed to that, but her heart sank in dejection. Before, the fire controllers had no evidence that she was helping a dragon, but now they had all the evidence after the incident that just happened. Draven had openly used his powers and even stood for her in front of everyone, not to mention she’d been saved by another two dragons and flew away with them right in front of everyone.
That was enough evidence, and it didn’t matter what she said because no one would believe her. And now, she didn’t even have a home anymore, not even the one given to her by Valen. In an instant, everything was gone...
If she didn’t follow them to the dragon realm, she wouldn’t survive a single day in Birhhan before the fire controllers and shadow stalkers tracked her down. Rhea sighed in despair and reluctantly said, "Do I really have a choice? I’ll go with you guys." From this day forward, Birhhan wouldn’t even provide her with a place to stand, she would be seen as an outcast...
Draven’s lips curled into a smile. Rhea never belonged to the vile humans in the first place, she belonged to the dragons.
Ethan’s expression brightened up, he looked like a child who was gifted a candy. Cute. But then he forcefully quashed the cuteness and put on a more mature face. "Entering the dragon realm means you have to follow our customs. Our kind holds a deep grudge against humans, especially fire controllers. Don’t mess up when we get there and do everything you’re asked to. I won’t lose my face to you!"
Rhea didn’t respond, she only blinked as if she wasn’t interested in anything the prince was saying. Meanwhile, Ethan’s excitement was palpable as he crawled closer to the dragon’s ear, whispering something that was carried to the pair by the wind. "I knew she would join us! My waiting has paid off!"
Rhea pursed her lips, murmuring, "How childish for a prince."
Draven, who had been silently supporting her from behind, chimed in, "Much like yourself."
Rhea gently nudged his chest with her elbow, asking, "in what way am I childish?"
In every aspect. She was the most adorable and childish woman he had ever encountered, Draven thought to himself, but he chose not to respond and instead smiled faintly. Gazing at the sunset and the golden light it cast upon the clouds, he closed his eyes and enjoyed the wind against his face, momentarily forgetting his worries. He had missed this sensation greatly - the freedom of flying in the vast horizon. It had been two decades since he last experienced such exhilaration.
