Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 106: Make them pay
Chapter 106: Make them pay
After their clothes shopping, Rhea suggested that they spent another day in an expensive inn in the town before she’d move into her new residence tommorow. Draven had no problem with that, he simply followed behind her carrying the bags of clothes she’d brought for him.
As they arrived at the inn and were waiting for the innkeeper to return and show them their rooms, Rhea suddenly heard a loud familiar voice call out.
"Heavens! You are here as well, fate must have brought your here to me again!" The voice was filed with an irrepressible delight.
However, at the sound of the voice, Rhea immediately felt a throbbing headache rushed to her head. She turned her head and looked to the direction, and as expected, the east dragon prince was standing not too far from her. He was actually the last person she was hoping to ever see again.
Rhea’s eyes looked away from him as if she hadn’t seen him at all. The middle-aged man beside the prince, quickly held him back when he was about to walk towards Rhea. Nonetheless, he broke free after several attempts and firmly walked to Rhea.
"Excuse me, Miss. Regardless of my contemplation, it’s your face that occupies my imagination. I believe it was you who rescued me last year, so why are you pretending not to recognize me now? Did I commit an offense during our first encounter?" he innocently inquired, causing Rhea to heave a sigh.
She resolved to tell the truth to the young lad and persuade him to give up. However, her view of him was unexpectedly obstructed by someone’s broad back. It was Draven, positioned in front of her, completely shielding her with his imposing stature, preventing the prince from seeing her.
The prince, bewildered, glanced at Draven, much like Rhea who gazed at his back in astonishment. Before she could gather her thoughts, something cold enveloped her wrist. Draven abruptly grasped her wrist and, without sparing the prince a glance, tugged her along towards the stairs.
Rhea quietly gazed at his firm back, then looked down at his closed fingers around her wrist. She didn’t know why he was suddenly pulling her away from the prince. She tried to look for a reason behind his actions as she stared at his back, but then as if sensing her intense gaze, he turned to look at her over his shoulder and said,
"Don’t think too much of this, the innkeeper is already leading the way to our rooms, and the boy is just going to waste the man’s time."
The way he said it implied that the innkeeper was very busy and they shouldn’t waste his time...
Rhea was still being pulled along, when the prince seemed to suddenly recover from his momentary shock, he hurriedly ran after them and climbed up the stairs. "Miss, who is this man? How dare he touch you in my presence?"
Draven didn’t even pay any heed to the young prince’s words and continued to pull Rhea with him. To him, the boy was just a young dragon, and was too young for him to deal with. It would be a waste of his time if he were to bark with a little dragon.
Rhea also didn’t respond to the prince. Thus, he continued to follow behind them up the stairs and to the hallways. "Miss, do you have any idea how much I’ve looked for you in the human land? My clan believe in repaying kindness with kindness, you once saved me, so I am here to repay you by taking you as my wife."
Rhea abruptly stopped as if she could no longer endure it anymore. Was this young boy serious? She turned to look at him with a frown "You know what? The best payment for me, would be for you to stop disturbing me. Pretend like you don’t know me and let me be."
The prince solemnly replied, "Can’t do that. I’m never going to forget you, and I insist on repaying your kindness." He pointed to a room next to the one Rhea and Draven were given, "This is my room, I will be in Birhhan for few more days, if you need my help with anything, just come to me."
Draven glanced down at the prince, and without waiting for Rhea to reply, he pulled her into their room and harshly slammed the door on the prince’s face. The young lad flinched and then frowned, "The audacity of this man, does he have any idea who I am to dare slam the door in my face?"
In the room, Draven placed the bags of clothes to one side while still maintaining a firm grip on Rhea’s wrist. But upon realizing he was still holding on tightly to her, she swiftly wriggled free.
Being a very astute person, Draven promptly let go and proceeded as if nothing had occurred. He casually strolled over to the couch in the room and took a seat. Pouring himself a cup of tea, he began to sip it in a relaxed manner.
Rhea fixed him with a bemused look, "I thought we requested for two rooms, and yours is next door. So why are sitting in here?"
"I am exhausted," he said calmly, "I will rest here before I return to my room."
Rhea didn’t think further about his words and also sat down opposite him on the other couch. Her expression turned gloomy, and Draven noticed the change in her demeanor and stared at her gloomy face.
"What’s wrong?" He asked as he sat aside his teacup, "Why are you suddenly quiet?"
"Do you know who that boy is? She gestured towards the door, knowing full well the idiot might still be standing outside the door.
"Yes," Draven said, taking a sip, "The boy you rescued last year. Despite lacking a dragon aura, his arrogant and daring behavior made it evident that he was of royal dragon lineage."
Rhea responded with an "Oh," and then fell silent. She looked down at her hands before speaking again, "I feel bad for everyone, both humans and dragons. Especially now, with the princess gone missing."
Draven gazed at her gently and replied, "You have no reason to feel bad, as none of this is your fault. It just so happened that you saved one of the royal family members in the past."
"But still, I’m scared for the humans. The prince has already been to that store, he probably knew he’d be able to get information in that place." Rhea looked towards the door again, "If that boy gets to know that his sister is probably dead, he will report it to the king. Everyone in Birhhan will no longer be safe if the news reaches the king."
No matter what she told herself, Birhhan was her home, and she wouldn’t wish any harm to anyone. Especially her own family members and the few people she cared about.
"Rhea, you are just a mere girl who has no hand in all this conflict. If the king finds out, so be it. The humans brought it upon themselves."
"Are you forgetting I’m also a human, and this is my home? I’m scared for my kind, because I know once the king finds out, everyone will..."
Rhea had not finished speaking when Draven placed his teacup down, making a crisp sound. "Little girl, if Alina dared to commit such an act, then she must be prepared to face the consequences. Why are you worrying on her behalf? She killed without guilt, and yet you, a mere spectator, are concerned about the repercussions?"
"I..." Rhea tried to speak, but no words escaped her lips. In what way was she worrying on Alina’s behalf? She was only concerned about the innocent people who would soon be caught up in this mess.
Draven continued, "For many years, the east dragons have refrained from retaliating against humans, even though fire controllers have been killing dragons. However, now..." He lightly ran his finger along the edge of his cup. "There will be no holding back. The dragons will attack as soon as they discover that Alina has killed their princess."
Rhea sighed, "I understand. I just hope that the war will not happen anytime soon." She muttered softly. After what Alina had done, war was inevitable, but if it was up to her, she’d hope the king never found out about the princess death...
Draven chose not to respond and reclined in the chair. The atmosphere in the room grew quiet, and no one spoke again. They sat in each other’s presence until the sun started to set. When Draven glanced at Rhea again, he noticed she had dozed off on the couch in an uncomfortable position.
With a sigh, he stood up and approached her. Without hesitation, he leaned over and lifted her into his arms, carrying her to the bed. He gently set her down, adjusted the pillow beneath her head, and removed her shoes before tucking her in with a blanket.
Draven looked down at her peaceful sleeping face, her rosy cheeks, and her slightly puckered lips, giving her the appearance of an adorable kitten.
"You are too compassionate for your own good, little girl. Sometimes, one must over look and ignore the suffering of some certain people," he whispered softly. "And as for humans... they deserve the danger coming their way. I apologize for what I’m about to do." With those words, he turned and exited the room.
Entering his own room, Draven retrieved a pen and paper and began writing. Once finished, he folded the paper. "This is the only way to make them pay for everything."
