Bound To The Ice Dragon King
Chapter 107: War

Chapter 107: War

Rhea, who had slept at sunset didn’t wake up until the next morning. She woke up and stared blankly at the ceiling as she tried to remember how she ended up on the bed, and what happened last night. It took her a minute to remember she’d slept off on the couch, but woke up on the bed.

Did he carry her back to the bed? Those thoughts had not settled in her mind, when she suddenly heard some commotion outside the window. There were panicked voices but she was unable to hear what they were saying.

Rhea hurriedly got off the bed and opened the window, she looked down on the streets, and noticed the townfolks running around in panic. What were they running away from?

She was still standing by the window in bewilderment, when she heard sounds of horses galloping from the distance. She looked towards the direction and saw three men riding the horses while announcing to the town people.

"Everyone, be on alert the dragons have declared war against humans!"

Rhea was stunned.

War!

She didn’t even wait to freshen up before turning on her heels and dashed towards the door. But just when she opened the door, she crashed into someone, her head bumped into the person’s fragile chest, and the person stumbled back two steps, before he steadied himself.

She looked up and saw that it was the prince, with the middle-aged man by his side. The prince stood there with a flushed face and forced himself to calmly ask her.

"I heard your name is Rheanna, right?"

Rhea didn’t reply as she hadn’t expected to come across the prince by her door steps. However, it was good he was here. She grabbed the lad by his collar and hauled him into her room, she slammed the door before the middle-aged man could follow and then caged the boy by the wall.

"Now tell me, what’s going on? Why did the dragons declared war upon humans? Did you inform your father?"

Instead of answering her question, the prince smiled smugly, "I see, so now you won’t pretend you don’t know me anymore. You_"

Thud!

Rhea forcefully slammed her fist behind his head on the wall, "Answer me!" She gritted her teeth. She wasn’t In the mood to play games with the young prince at the moment.

"The dragons seek retribution, for Alina Credan had the audacity to harm my elder sister. They demand justice through equal retaliation; a blood for blood." the young lad, who was both a prince and a dragon, remained unfazed by Rhea’s furious outburst. As he spoke, the deep blue hue of his eyes ominously darkened, mirroring the dragons’ readiness to take a life.

Rhea had been confused just a moment ago, but as she heard the prince’s words, she suddenly felt that there was no point in remaining anxious. All that was left was a growing sense of helplessness. Stepping away from the prince, she collapsed to the ground, her expression filled with despair. She asked, her voice bleak, "But... how did the king find out about this? Did your father’s spies uncover this information?"

"No, yesterday evening, I received a letter from an unknown person who revealed everything," the prince replied. "According to the letter, because my sister married the man Alina loves, she decided to kidnap my sister. At first, I doubted the authenticity of the letter. However, upon investigating my sister’s husband’s background, I discovered that he was indeed the man Alina intended to marry. So, I urgently sent my guardian to inform the king in the middle of the night. By dawn, the king had declared that if the humans did not return the princess alive within seven days, everyone would suffer the consequences."

It was the dragon’s way, if the humans did not return what belonged to them, then every single human shall face the consequences. They valued their royal bloodlines so much so they wouldn’t mind causing a massacre.

If the princess was really dead, then the humans have nothing to return, Rhea doubted if Alina even had a dead body to return, as she’d have burned her to ashes. And for that, every single person would be in danger, especially the fire controllers...

Rhea stayed quiet.

In the meantime, the prince stood tall and gazed down at her. "My clan has declared a war against humans. The fire controllers will surely not remain passive; they will fight back. Moreover, I have heard that you are being accused of murder and labeled a traitor because you helped the dragons..." The prince paused, still not accustomed to this kind of stance. He clenched his hands into fists and raised his voice, as if attempting to strengthen himself. "I desire to bring you to the dragon realm for your protection. The humans no longer accept you. Are you willing to accompany me back to our land?" he asked.

Rhea, who was lost in her thoughts heard what he said and looked up at him, she was completely stumped for words. Why the heck did he think she’d go back with him to the dragon realm?

Rhea glared up at the prince. Meeting her glaring eyes, his hand covered in nervous sweat. He clenched them again and said, "I get it, you don’t know me yet, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Ethan Wyverncrest, the youngest son of king Henry Wyverncrest. Although you are human, but it doesn’t matter, my clan will gladly accept you into our realm as you are the person who saved my life."

Rhea was about to say something, but the prince cut her off, saying, "You don’t need to respond right now, Miss Rheanna. I’ll be here for two more days, so you can take your time to think about it." He gazed at her for a moment, then lowered his head and softly muttered, "I’ll go now."

With a somber expression and his head hanging low, he began walking towards the door, but accidentally bumped into it, cursing under his breath. He felt around the door frame before finally leaving the room.

Rhea remained seated on the floor, gazing blankly at her hands. Her emotions were in turmoil, and in the end, all she could manage was a hollow, bitter laugh. She slowly crawled up and took a seat on the chair beside her, tilting her head back. What was happening, and what would come next? Birhhan had been her only home, and now it was on the verge of collapsing in seven days...

Rhea’s thoughts were interrupted by a figure entering through the doorway. She didn’t even need to turn to know who it was.

"Why?" she questioned. "Why did you inform him?" Her voice remained steady, no different from her usual tone. However, Draven’s keen senses detected her anger. She was furious.

"I informed you yesterday that war was inevitable. Even if it hasn’t happened yet, I will ensure that both Alina and her accomplice pay for their actions once I am back to full strength. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if it occurs sooner rather than later," he calmly stated.

Rhea’s voice trembled with anger as she turned to him and said, "This is a personal vendetta between you and Alina; the others have no involvement in this. They don’t deserve to suffer, Draven."

Draven scoffed coldly, "They don’t deserve to suffer, you say? Then tell me, do the innocent dragons who have been killed deserve it?" he demanded. "I am not the one responsible for dragging innocent lives into this chaos; that burden falls on Alina. She has been consumed by evil and has thrust everyone into her wicked plan. She was fully aware of the severe consequences of harming a royal dragon, yet she proceeded anyway."

Draven ran his fingers through his hair and took a deep breath, attempting to control his anger. "Rhea, whether you believe it or not, all the fire controllers are aware that Alina has harmed a royal dragon. Even Azure, whom you refuse to acknowledge his wrongdoing, is involved. He was responsible for Rinus’ death and many other lives."

"Enough, Draven," Rhea softly murmured, not yet ready to face the truth. Even though she knew deep down that it was true, her heart still made excuses for not hating Azure. How could she wish harm upon someone who once saved her from death?

"Rhea, perhaps my perspective is biased because I’m seeing it from the dragons’ point of view. I am helping my kind put an end to the fire controllers and Alina’s plan. But you are looking at it with your kind-heartedness. You don’t want the dragons to succeed, you don’t want them to harm any humans, and most importantly... you don’t want the truth about the princess’s death to be revealed."

At this point, Rhea had no choice but to fall silent. Draven seemed to understand her, he seemed to know her more than anyone.

Draven glanced at Rhea, who remained silent, and stated, "Rhea, it is inevitable that dragons and humans can never live together. Alina proved this decades ago. Regardless of the circumstances, they will never coexist. Never."

Rhea gave Draven a disapproving look in response to his statement and sarcastically chuckled, "So, despite the fact that we have been sharing the same living space, eating at the same table, and doing things together for several months, you still believe that humans and dragons cannot coexist? Seriously?"

A smirk formed on Draven’s face as he replied, "Indeed." He continued, "With your messed up aura, your human nature is slowly changing, you are more like a dragon than a human now, Rhea. You should follow me back to the dragon realm and embrace life as one of us."
