Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Sophia Waltz

Olivia and Theodore returned home. They recounted everything to Aurora and Emily.

It just happened that Lucas, Adriana, Adam, and Mary returned too.

Lucas and Adriana agreed with Theodore’s approach.

Adam and Mary however had a much more realistic approach toward life. They knew the reality.

Their family didn’t have any connection to mysterious or powerful people. They didn’t have the genes of Sherlock Homes in their family.

So how can they defeat Gray Winston and Lancaster Group?

Aurora on the other had a completely different attitude.

If life had taught her anything then it was...Money can make the world go around.

She has money and she could easily and realistically tackle the problem.

With her foot, she nudged Emily and asked her to bend down.

Once, Emily bent down, Aurora whispered something in her ears. Emily’s eyes widened but she agreed.

Emily cleared her throat loudly, making everyone turn toward her. The room, filled with frustration and worry, suddenly went silent.

"I know someone who can help us," Emily said, glancing at Aurora, who gave her a small nod.

Theodore leaned forward. "Who?"

Emily took a deep breath. "Sophia Waltz. She’s a lawyer. A really good one."

Before she could say another word, Adriana gasped. "Wait—are you talking about the Sophia Waltz? The top lawyer in the country? The one who never loses a case?"

Emily smiled. "Yes, that Sophia Waltz."

Lucas whistled. "She’s expensive, isn’t she? There’s no way we can afford her."

Emily crossed her arms, looking completely at ease. "Who said anything about us? I can pay for it."

Everyone turned to her, surprised.

"Emily," Adam said, frowning. "You know we can’t let you—"

"I can and I will," Emily interrupted.

"Look, we don’t have power like the Lancasters. We don’t have influence like Gray Winston. But money? I have money, and if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that money makes things happen."

Mary sighed, rubbing her temples.

"But what if it’s not enough? The Lancasters have more money."

Emily smirked.

"Sure, they do. But this isn’t about throwing money around. This is about playing the game right. We need someone on our side who knows the law inside and out, who can dig deep and find real proof. That’s what Sophia can do."

Theodore nodded slowly, his mind racing.

"If we can get her to take our case, we might actually have a chance."

"Might?" Olivia crossed her arms.

"If she’s as good as everyone says, then this is the best shot we’ve got."

Adam still looked skeptical.

"How do you even know her? A lawyer that powerful wouldn’t just take any case."

Emily chuckled.

"Well, Sophia is an old friend of mine. We went to college together. I haven’t talked to her in a while, but I’m sure she’ll at least hear me out."

In reality, she didn’t know Sophia at all! But Aurora said she would find a way to hire Sophia.

So...Emily played along.

"Emily we can’t take any more money from you-" Adam began, but before he could continue, Emily’s eyes started to fill with tears.

"I thought...you all have started to consider me as a family member..."

Aurora: "..." Family member? So Fast?

Olivia: "..." Didn’t she arrive just yesterday?

Theodore: "..." I never knew someone would be this desperate to join our family.

Lucas: "..." Suspicous.

Adriana: "..." Is she genuinely hurt?

Adam: "..!"

Mary: "..." Poor thing!

Adam panicked at the sight of Emily’s teary eyes.

"No, no! That’s not what I meant!" He waved his hands, looking flustered.

Mary sighed and patted Emily’s shoulder.

"Of course, we consider you family. Don’t cry, dear."

Emily sniffled dramatically. "Then let me help."

Aurora watched the scene with a raised eyebrow. Was Emily really emotional, or was she just good at acting?

Theodore cleared his throat.

"Alright. If Emily can contact Sophia Waltz, then we should at least try. We can’t afford to let this chance slip away."

Lucas narrowed his eyes.

"But are you sure she’ll help? She’s not the type to take random cases."

Emily wiped her fake tears and smiled.

"I told you, Sophia and I go way back! She won’t ignore me."

Adriana clapped her hands together.

"If this works, then Gray Winston is done for."

Olivia grinned.

After discussing the plan, everyone left the living room, tired from the long conversation. Aurora stretched her arms and turned to Mary.

"I’m going to the rooftop for some fresh air," she said casually.

Mary, who was fixing the cushions on the couch, nodded. "Alright, but don’t stay too long. It’s getting late."

Aurora smiled and walked away, heading up the stairs. When she reached the rooftop, a cool breeze brushed against her face. The night sky stretched above her, the city lights blinking in the distance.

But she wasn’t here to admire the view. She had work to do.

Pulling out her phone, Aurora searched for Sophia Waltz’s assistant’s number. After half an hour, she found it and pressed the call button.

The phone rang twice before a professional-sounding voice answered.

"Hello, this is Sophia Waltz’s office. How can I help you?"

Aurora leaned against the railing, her voice calm and confident. "Hello, I would like to hire Sophia Waltz for a case."

The assistant hesitated. "Miss Waltz’s schedule is completely packed at the moment. I’m afraid she won’t be available to take any new cases."

Aurora smirked. She expected this answer.

"I’m willing to pay double her usual price," she said smoothly.

There was a pause. Then, the assistant cleared her throat. "Miss Waltz charges $2000 per hour. Double that would be $4000."

Aurora chuckled. "I know."

The assistant still sounded doubtful. "Even so, Miss Waltz has a very busy schedule. The nearest available appointment is in about a month."

Aurora’s smile didn’t fade. "That won’t work. We need her sooner."

"I understand, but there’s nothing we can do—"

Aurora cut her off. "I’ll pay triple."

Silence.

The assistant hesitated again. "Triple?"

"Yes," Aurora confirmed. "That would be $6000 per hour. Now, tell me—can Miss Waltz take the case sooner?"

The assistant didn’t answer right away. Aurora could almost hear her thinking.
