Chapter 60: Glitch-1
Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Glitch-1
"Let me... check something," the assistant finally said. The sound of typing filled the call.
Aurora tapped her fingers on the railing, waiting patiently.
She knew money could solve a lot of problems, and right now, it was the only thing that could get them closer to winning this case.
After a moment, the assistant returned. "There might be an opening in two weeks."
Aurora’s eyes gleamed. "That’s much better."
"But I can’t promise anything yet," the assistant quickly added. "I’ll have to discuss this with Miss Waltz."
Aurora smiled. "Of course. But remind her—triple the price. And if she still says no, tell her I’m willing to negotiate."
The assistant sighed. "Alright. I’ll call you back once I have an answer."
"Perfect." Aurora ended the call and slipped her phone back into her pocket.
A few hours later, Aurora’s phone buzzed. She grabbed it quickly, already knowing who it was.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Miss Waltz has agreed to take the case," the assistant said. "She will represent you."
Aurora let out a small, satisfied smile. "That’s great news. Thank you."
The assistant paused. "Miss Waltz was impressed by your... generosity."
Aurora chuckled. "Money does make things easier." Then, she got to the real point. "I have one more small request."
"Go ahead."
Aurora leaned against the wall. "I’ll give you a phone number. It belongs to Emily. When you contact the family, act like you know her. As if she was the one who arranged everything."
The assistant seemed surprised but didn’t question it. "That’s easy enough. Consider it done."
"Good." Aurora gave her Emily’s number and thanked her again before hanging up.
Emily sat on the bed, her hands gently caressing her small baby bump.
Her phone rang. Seeing an unknown number, she smirked. "Here we go," she muttered before answering.
"Hello, is this Emily?" the assistant asked.
"Yes, speaking."
"We have spoken with Miss Waltz. She has agreed to take the case. We understand that you are the one who arranged everything, so we will be in touch with you for further details."
Emily smiled. "Thank you so much. I really appreciate this."
She quickly explained the case, filling the assistant in on the details. They scheduled a meeting, and Emily noted the time.
Once the call ended, she took a deep breath and walked out of her room. Everyone was sitting in the living room, tired and stressed.
She cleared her throat. "I have good news."
Everyone turned to her at once.
"What is it?" Theodore asked.
Emily grinned. "Sophia Waltz is taking the case."
For a second, there was silence. Then—
"WHAT?!"
"You’re serious?!"
"No way!"
Adriana jumped up and clapped her hands. "We actually got her?!"
Lucas whistled. "Damn, Emily, you really pulled this off."
Mary hugged Emily. "Oh, sweetheart, you’re amazing!"
Adam sighed in relief. "I can’t believe it... we actually have a shot."
The room was filled with excitement. Everyone cheered, thanking Emily again and again.
Emily smiled, but inside, guilt twisted in her chest. She hadn’t done anything. The real hero was standing quietly in the doorway, watching them all.
Aurora.
Aurora, who had made all the calls. Aurora, who had spent her money. Aurora, who had done everything.
And yet, nobody was thanking her.
Aurora leaned against the doorframe, her arms crossed. She watched as they celebrated Emily, as they hugged her, as they cheered for her.
Something heavy settled in her chest.
She should be happy.
But for some reason, she felt... sad.
She suddenly remembers all the novels that flex about keeping a low profile.
Low profile my foot!
If change was given, Aurora wanted to tell everyone that it was she who had arranged everything.
However...she knew the reality.
Suddenly an idea appeared in her mind, but before Aurora could try it, she felt dizzy and fainted.
................
Seeing herself surrounded by the familiar mist, Aurora was on alert.
"Aurora, maybe there are certain things that I didn’t clear. Let me go over it." A voice sounded.
Aurora’s expression changed.
"First Rebate system, won’t rebate you money, you spent on yourself. Second and the most important rule. You absolutely can’t tell anyone about this system. Am I clear?" The voice sounded.
"I only tried a few times." Aurora defended herself.
"So now, you weren’t thinking of letting the lawyer’s assistant tell the truth that you have paid the money and you were the one with contacts?
Because once everyone does get to know that you paid for the lawyer, they will start to question the source of money, am I correct? That is what you were planning, right?"
Aurora stayed silent for a moment. The mist around her swirled as if waiting for her answer.
"...Maybe," she finally admitted, crossing her arms.
The voice sighed.
"You can’t do that. If people start asking where you got the money, things will get complicated. And if you even try to tell them about me, you know what will happen."
Aurora rolled her eyes.
"I was just curious."
The mist was silent for a while, before saying,
"Then let me show you what would have happened if you had done that."
Aurora frowned as the mist started to shift. Everything around her blurred, and suddenly—
She was back in the living room. But something felt... off.
Emily was still standing in the middle of the room, but this time, she looked nervous. The excited cheers had died down. Everyone’s faces were serious.
Theodore crossed his arms. "Wait a minute. You’re saying you paid for the lawyer?"
Adriana looked confused. "But... how? That’s a lot of money. Aurora, where did you get it?"
Aurora’s heart pounded. She had to say something. "I—uh—"
Lucas narrowed his eyes. "Don’t tell me you did something illegal."
"What? No! Of course not!" Aurora protested.
"Then explain," Adam said, his voice sharp. "Where did you get that much cash?"
The room was quiet. All eyes were on her.
Aurora opened her mouth, then closed it. And finally, she called the assistant.
