Chapter 836: Chapter 187: Helplessness
Liu’s anger wasn’t without reason.
As the quickest and most rapidly advancing Fallen Magic on the Aegean Continent, Blood Magic, while pursuing shortcuts, inevitably suffered from the disadvantage of having too weak power. This could be seen from the several battles where Liu had encountered Blood Mages. At low levels, the ranged suppression abilities of Blood Mages could only be considered marginally better than those of a Divine Archer... of course, a Blood Mage was definitely much stronger than a squad of Divine Archers.
In the modern warfare of the Aegean Continent, the role of a Mage was to use large-scale, high-end magic to bombard the enemy’s most expensive troops, causing substantial casualties, and thereby turning the tide of the battle.
If analyzing from Liu’s tactical perspective, the battlefield role assumed by a Mage closely resembled that of the artillery in the battles of the Southern Border—lower-level Mages were like Mortar grenade launchers, higher-level Mages were comparable to the 155 howitzers, while Magic Tutors and Saint Level Mages were akin to cruise missiles.
The low attack capability of Blood Mages sadly downgraded these formidable gods of war to the level of machine guns. Even at a higher level, a Blood Mage was at most akin to a high-low altitude anti-aircraft machine gun. As for Blood Magic Tutors and Saint Level Mages, although they would not disgrace these lofty titles, when compared with other Elemental and Saint Level Mages, they definitely fell short.
The purpose of the Blood Infant was to narrow and compensate for this gap.
The Blood Infant is a new species cultivated by Blood Magic Mages using Magical Beast eggs and the "Blood Feeding Method." To some extent, the Blood Infant shares similarities with the "Snake Gu" that the Medusa tribe’s Witch Doctors cultivated using special methods...
During the process of the "Blood Feeding Method," the Magical Beast embryo within the host egg gets completely transformed, with most physical characteristics of the Magical Beast being eradicated. Once the host egg is successfully hatched, the newly fallen Blood Infant resembles the Mage in appearance. A Blood Infant born from a successful Blood Feeding process will possess half the Elemental Power of the Blood Mage, and additionally, the Blood Infant will still retain a part of its Magical Beast instincts. This innate instinct embodies some Elemental Power, physical strength, special abilities, and primitive beastliness.
The strength of a Blood Infant is interconnected with that of the Mage, though generally, the difference isn’t vast. The threshold for successfully incubating a Blood Infant is that the Blood Mage’s Union Level must reach Advanced. The advancement of Blood Magic becomes increasingly difficult at higher levels. For someone like Liu, incubating a Blood Infant as a Saint Level Mage is not only unprecedented but truly record-breaking.
A Blood Infant inheriting half the Mana of a high-level Mage compared to one inheriting half the Mana of a Magic Tutor may have a gap, but not an exaggerated one; thus, what truly determines the strength of a Blood Infant mainly depends on the level of the Magical Beast the host egg comes from. The same high-level Mage performing Blood Feeding on a Newton Giant Bird egg versus a Golden Giant Dragon egg, those two Blood Infants, while similar in physical form, could have vastly different combat strengths—as even a fool could discern... In fact, it could also be said that a Blood Infant is simply a magical pet, except that the Beamon are summoned through a ritual, while the Blood Mage creates one themselves.
Just like the magical pets of the ritualists, the Blood Infant is an absolutely trustworthy companion and helper. During the Blood Feeding, aside from passing down half of their Elemental Power to the Blood Infant, the Mage also indoctrinates their thoughts into it. Even if the Blood Mage were to fall in battle one day, the Blood Infant could continue to live in their stead, acting as a form of life extension, just like a child who inherits the will of their parent and carries out their unfulfilled desires.
It was not hard to understand why Liu’s Blood Feeding yielded a Blood Infant with the appearance of a Frost Snow Pichu Beast, since he and Guoguo had suffered the "Blood Sacrifice Curse" together, becoming a life-bound entity, tied together like conjoined grasshoppers. Even if the Blood Infant had turned out to be a little girl identical to Avril, Liu could accept it, as due to their bond through the barrier, he and Avril were already sworn to die on the same day—a fate shared by star-crossed lovers. During the chaotic transformation of the host egg, with three lifeforms connected and for it to pick Guoguo’s form, there was no fault in it.
Tang Beryljenna had become like Yi, having cultivated a human form, and developing feelings for Mourinho and eventually having offspring; this was theoretically possible.
The "Blood Feeding Method" aims to transform the wild beast form of the Magical Beast embryo into the final form within the evolution hierarchy... the human form. If the embryo inside the host egg is already in the ultimate human form, then of course the "Blood Feeding Method" could not transform it!
Clearly, within this prematurely hatched Phoenix Egg, a human-shaped embryo had already formed, which is why the "Blood Feeding Method" couldn’t alter it, and it retained its original appearance; that’s little Mourinho. On the other hand, the other embryo, because of the premature hatching, had not been able to mature fully and might have been another shape, so it was transformed into Guoguo’s shape by the "Blood Feeding Method."
