Chapter 661: Chapter 139 - The Great Fall Sequel_3

"But you’re missing out on the fun of frolicking in the water," Moer walked over with a pout, sticking her face into her tutor’s crook of the arm, her long eyelashes unwaveringly fixating on the giant chieftain.

"Little girl! We are Difeng Giants capable of absorbing fire!" The Difeng chieftain roared with hearty laughter, "Lava flows are our best bathing spots. If we apply your logic, wouldn’t you be missing out on the enjoyment of frolicking in the fire?"

"You’re underestimating me. I’m a Beamon Shaman!" Moer retorted, "As long as I continuously employ the Sacrificial War Song, augmenting myself, I too can possess immunity to fire."

The two Staff Shamans found this rather grating. The Sacrificial War Song was an advanced chant that only a Great Shaman like Wei An could use. How could this young girl, like her tutor, blow her own trumpet so much? She’s full of hot air, isn’t she?

Upon witnessing the annoyed expressions of the two Pier Shamans, Liu Zhenghan burst out laughing.

"Enough with the pointless chitchat, Richard. Do you know what’s the deal with this chalky white powder...?" The slightly more mature and reserved raccoon shaman, Remel, gestured towards the lime on the sword edge gripped by Liu Zhenghan with a nod of his lips.

"I’m pretty perplexed myself! The mystery of the limestone has been resolved, but where’s all this rainwater coming from? It’s only been a little while, but how much rain has fallen? It even covers such a broad area!" Liu Zhenghan looked up at the sky, mumbling to himself. This place was underground; there couldn’t possibly be any clouds here. Even artificial rain would be impossible. Moer Elves practiced blood magic. Although Master Puskas remarked that blood magic was a variant of water element magic, element transformations could not change their fundamental nature. So, how was this rainstorm conjured?

"Ask them." Daisy suggested.

Everyone’s gaze followed the direction Daisy pointed. Figo and the Orajwan warrior were each holding a pair of dejected looking Blood Elf Mages prisoner. The warrior wore a mournful face. Of the over two hundred Medusa Warriors who ventured, only nine survived the battle. Such a catastrophic casualty rate was simply horrifying.

"Who are you?" Before Liu Zhenghan could speak, a Blood Elf Mage rasped, taking the initiative to ask. His tone embodied the Elves’ obstinate pride, showing no awareness of his status as a prisoner.

"I come from the Bimon Kingdom of the Surface World. I’m an Altar Shaman, respected prisoner," Liu Zhenghan replied with a chuckle, "May I inquire about the secret behind, what in history of the Underworld is, the first ever downpour?"

"Sorry, I have nothing to say," returned the Blood Elf Mage tersely.

"What a blockhead." Liu Zhenghan tilted his head, looking at the Elf Mage. A chilling laugh echoed, followed by a whistle. Gerein, the Tide Lord, flapped his wings and flew over cheerfully.

"Boss, what are you up to?" The Tide Lord already bellowed from a distance before his arrival.

The elf mage futilely writhed in the arms of a colossal man standing over six meters tall, a stark look of panic written plainly over his face---Gerein’s sinister appearance was incredibly intimidating. The Tide Lord was feasting, in each of his mutilated hands he brandished a grey dwarf.

"Allow me to introduce Gerein, the formidable Tide Lord hailing from the Oceanic Underworld." Liu Zhenghan chuckled, "I heard that Moer Elves specialize in drawing elemental power from their deceased adversaries to augment their own strength. Much like you all, Gerein, a formidable figure from the Underworld, follows the same shortcut. The only difference being, he increases his own power by absorbing the souls of others."

Gerein was indeed pulling his weight, consummately playing his part. Liu initially intended to use a captured Blood Elf Mage as a scarecrow. However, after hearing Gerein, the four captive Blood Elf Mages turned ashen instantly. The youngest among them had been so frightened that he nearly cried.

"I know what happened! The rainstorm was summoned from above!" The haughty Blood Mage hadn’t waited for Gerein to reach out his talons before screaming out.

"Above?" Liu Zhenghan was genuinely puzzled, "Which ’above’?"

"The term ’above’ here means above the sky of the underworld." The Blood Elf Mage thought carefully about his wordings, taking a good few seconds to articulate each: "The Difeng Giants of the Furious Flame Continent always occupy the highest mountains. We dispatched Cow-Eagle people, carrying the burrowing Cave Dwellers, to the ’above’ – the sky above the Underworld."

"What were they digging?" An idea occurred to Liu Zhenghan.

"Unlike the limitless sky of the Surface World, the skies of the Underworld have a limit – soil, lots of soil. Just like the Furious Flame Continent, the sky of the Underworld too has a stairwell built by someone unknown. The only difference being, the stairwell in the Underworld leads upwards while that on the Furious Flame Continent surface leads downwards." The Blood Elf Mage studied Liu Zhenghan’s expression, "Above Flame Mountain Valley, the stairwell houses a raging underground river. We dispatched the Cow-Eagle people, bearing Cave Dwellers, into the sky, into the stairwell. After about a day and a half, they excavated the river embankment, thus the surging water flowed out of the stairwell, raining down from the ’above’."
